How Shocking

You sat on the couch watching a rerun of Psych as you play with Barry's hair while he lays his head on your lap. You smiled to yourself when you hear his soft snoring, loving the feeling of him being completely relaxed. It had been hard for him to feel any sort of relaxation after you got married to him almost a year ago. You glanced at the ring on your finger, twirling it with your thumb.

He asked you when the two of you had finished a particularly dangerous mission. He said he wasn't planning on doing it so suddenly but seeing you hurt and him not being able to do anything about it made him think quick on his feet. No joke. It just so happens to be a few weeks after he learned that you too, had the ability to run as fast as him. You wanted to keep it to yourself, but when Cisco almost dropped Caitlin's favorite picture of the group, you just caught it quickly out of instinct, in front of everyone.

Now the two of you have been living a nice married life. Well, as nice as it can get for two speedsters. Missions are a lot more fun together, but there's a lot more at stake when you are invested in someone's life like that. Barry would always be sure to tell you to be safe and to not take on a mission without him. You would always smile and give him a peck, saying that you wouldn't even dream of it. But as of late, that has turned into a lie.

You thought of going out on your own at least once every day. Not only to go out on your own but to prove to your worrisome husband that you can take care of yourself if needs be. You looked down at your husband's sleeping form. One day he will see you as capable of holding your own out there.

Barry's phone started to vibrate on the coffee table in front of you. You reached for it as carefully as you could as to not wake him up. Once you had it, you saw that it was Cisco. You press the green button and pick up the call.

"What's up, Cisco?"

"(Y/n)! It's good to hear from you. Hey, we have a situation down here. We aren't sure how bad it is but it looks like this Metahuman could really reek havoc if he's not taken care of asap. We need you down here as soon as you can."

"Haha, not like we're the fastest couple on the planet or anything."

"You'd think with all the crazy superpowers going around and how much you two run that the powers that be would give you something."

You laugh lightly. "Alright, alright, we'll be right there."

You hung up and set Barry's phone down on the couch arm. Still playing with his hair, you look down at his resting face and let your mind decide before your heart kicked in. Before Barry exhaled again, you were at the Lab and in your suit. Cisco walked up to you with a smile, but you saw it falter when he didn't see Barry.

You slowly blink and raise a hand to stop whatever it was he was about to say. "He's on his way. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt for me to get a feel for this Metahuman before he gets here."

Cisco looked at you skeptically but finally nodded. "Alright. But this was your idea, not mine. Barry will kill me if you get hurt."

"Not until after he kills me first." You laugh nervously. Cisco grimly nods then gives you to details on the Metahuman.

He had spotted him on the Metahuman radar he was working on but he didn't think much of it. But suddenly the readings spiked then fell. After watching it for a few minutes Cisco realized that this wasn't just some glitch in the system. By what he could scan, this guy can teleport but uses electro magnetic resonance to do so and it seems like the poor guy is having a hard time handling the powers.

You nod and take off in the direction of the last reading surge. You find yourself in an alleyway, standing in front of a man no older than twenty-five with his back to you. You make sure to blur your face before you began speaking as you stepped toward him slowly, reaching a hand out in kindness.

"Hello, sir? Are you alright?"

The man whirled around, electricity bouncing off every surface of visible skin. His eye glowed yellow and he looked like he was either in pain or scared. Possibly both.

A small spark bounced off the wall of one of the buildings and hit you, frying your com unit with Cisco. Perfect.

"Stay away from me! I'm a monster! I have killed everything that comes close!" He stepped back a few steps, hitting a puddle causing it to sizzle and glow. You watched as little electrically charged water streams zig-zagged their way to you. You sped out of the way and moved to a more safe distance but still close enough to talk.

"I just want to help you. You are not a monster. As you can see I have powers too."

"Not like mine, you don't!"

"True, but I know what it's like to be afraid of yourself. Take a deep breath and imagine holding a rope and it's your power. Pull it into yourself but not in hurried motions. Slow and steady, like-"

"SHUT! UP! You don't know ANYTHING about what I am going through!" The man turned to you and extended his hand, lightning shooting from his fingertips.

Your eyes widened and you nearly missed getting hit. "Ok, there Emperor Palpatine. I sure don't know. Do you want to tell me about it?"

The crackling of his energy died down just a bit, giving you hope that he may have changed his mind on roasting you. "Will you be able to take it away?" Your heart wanted to break with the amount of sorrow and desperation that dripped from his words.

"I...I'm not sure, but I know some people who can run some tests and help explain what is going on. Please, just take a deep breath and you can come with me." You reach your hand out ready to help him get to S.T.A.R Labs.

The man seemed to contemplate the idea for a moment before he nodded slowly, taking tentative steps toward you. But you noticed that there was something wrong, it was almost like he was stalking you, ready to pounce.

"There you go, man. I will be sure to personally make sure you are seen to."

"Will the tests take long?"

You cock your head to the side. "I wouldn't think so. Do you have a name?"

The man looked into your eyes through slits of his own, his arms slowly rising. "Yeah I do. You said it yourself. Emperor Palpatine." You didn't like the sound of his voice. If your com unit wasn't busted and the situation wasn't so daring, you would have taken an moment to take pride in your nickname for the guy, Cisco would be proud. Before you had any time to react, despite being fast, you were shot backwards, hitting a building a few blocks away.

You groaned as you tried to get to your feet. Breathing became difficult. You touched your ribs and grimaced, definitely some broken bones. You could feel a nice sized bruise form on your arm and the back of your left leg, but that didn't stop you from running to a more open part of the abandoned street, making sure no one was around to get hurt.

So maybe Barry should have come with. And maybe saying "tests" was not the wisest idea.

A voice behind you made you jump and turn around, taking care not to jar your already aching bones. "You think someone like me would just coming willingly with someone like you. It looks to me that I am the more powerful Metahuman here." Your breathing hitched. "That's right, Lady Flash. I would think you would be a lot smarter than this. I am able to control electricity, that means I can tap into anything electronic. Now it's only a matter of time when your husband will get here, and how long you can last with me."

It was like the scared and desperate man you had seen only moments before was just a figment of your imagination as compared to the man that was now chasing you with bolts of lightning. You raced through and around old abandoned buildings, trying to get a feel for the area and what would be the best way to subdue the guy. Seeing as how you run with the help of electricity, maybe you could suck it from him, make yourself faster. But that may result either in an explosion or death. Neither seemed like a good idea. You run into a building and stop to think for a second. The "Emperor" can sense where you are and so faking him out will be hard. An idea pops into your head. Powerplant. Maybe if you overcharge him, he will be taken care of. You weren't sure what 'taken care of' meant, but you were sure it meant no more electric shocks.

Taking a deep breath and running around the Emperor in circles, you tried to get his attention. "Ok, so maybe you are more powerful. But I can tell you didn't ask for this. Neither did I when I was given my power. But as you can see I'm trying to use it for good."

A deep, crackling laugh vibrated through your chest. "I don't plan on being anyone's pawn."

You shrugged. "Fair enough." You sent a little sorry prayer to Barry as you barreled into the chest of the electric man, letting out a shout as you crashed him into a couple of buildings. You stopped once you ended up in the parking lot of an electric powerplant. You quickly distanced yourself from his seemingly unconscious form, regaining your breath and relaxing your twitching  muscles.

You looked at him and watched as he just laid there, not moving. Slowly you stepped closer to him. Is he dead? That was a lot easier than expected. You now stood over his unmoving body, leaning down to check his pulse. An arch of electricity reached from his neck to your outstretched fingers, shocking you. His arm shot up and grabbed a hold of your neck as his eyes shot open. You struggled to pull his hand away to breath, his powers shocking you and causing your muscles to seize.

His yellow eyes filled with something you couldn't place as his other hand came around to rest on your chest. Almost like a laugh, the last thing you heard was a loud and menacing "CLEAR" before your whole body jolted and went limp, Barry's sweet face being the last thing you thought of.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Cisco, I don't blame you, but I'm not exactly happy with you either."
"I'm so sorry man. We both underestimated him."
Barry sat in a hospital chair next to his wife, not wanting to think about the possibilities of your condition. "I just wish she didn't go alone. I should have gotten there sooner." He rubbed his tired face, having not slept very much over the days you have been in the hospital in a medically induced coma.
"At least you came. 'Marital instincts' as Caitlin calls them. I'll leave you with her." Cisco left with a grimace/grin.
Barry looked over at your burned body. Already he can see that your fast healing is working but not fast enough. He leaned over and grabbed your hand. He wasn't sure how long he rested his head on the edge of your bed before he felt our hand squeeze his. Barry's head shot up and he froze, not wanting to believe you were awake when you weren't. But there it was again, his hand felt pressure.
"Hey, there babe. You miss me?" You croaked, weakly smiling as your eyes opened just a bit.
Barry about cried as he leaned forward and gave you a sweet kiss on the lips. "You are literally the worse."
You tried to shrug but it hurt. "Shocking, right? What happened to him? I'm sorry. But honestly, I didn't mean to-"
Barry shook his head. "Shh, I don't want to talk about that quite yet. I just want my wife back home. I am pretty sure the microwave is broken from all the single dinners I have been eating."
You smiled and reached up to stroke his cheek. "How in the world did I ever deserve you?" He never failed to help you feel better.
He turned his head and kissed your hand. "With lots of rest and maybe listening to me next time." He raised an eyebrow.
You nodded slightly, closing your eyes and holding onto his hand like a lifeline. "You got it, babe. Sleep and no more alone missions. Sounds like a deal."
