Twenty-three
Saturday came around sooner than expected and Sydney still hadn't thought up a way of convincing her parents to let her out of the house.
"Anything you want to do for the day?" Her mother asked as she placed a bowl of cereal in front of Sydney.
The girl cleared her throat.
"Depends. Why do you ask?"
"I was thinking of going down to the shopping centre in the afternoon and I thought it would be nice to get you out of the house for once."
The concert was in the afternoon.
"No thanks," she declined.
Her mother cocked an eyebrow at her.
"Seriously? You don't want to get out of here?"
"I'm fine in here. Is Dad going out too?"
"No... Earlier when I asked you if you had plans, you said depends. Depends on what?"
Sydney sighed as she stuffed a spoonful of cereal in her mouth.
"Mum, you know I love you so much. And you know I know you really care for me, right?"
"Alright, what did you want?"
"There's this concert-"
"No. The one on the beach. Felix and his friends, right? The answer is no."
"Come on, Mum. Please. I'll hibernate in the house until the end of summer if you wish. Just please let me go. Please, please, please."
"No, no and no. Sydney, honey, this is a disaster waiting to happen. Fans hurt you and you're going to a place where there are more? Are you trying to kill myself?"
"They were fake friends, Mum. Even Felix admitted it. Besides, they booked a VIP seat for me and the other workers from the café will be there. Noah and Olivia will be there, I know you like them both."
"I do but I don't like the fans. And there are more fans than there are Noahs and Olivias."
"Please. I don't want to sneak out of the house and I bet you wouldn't want that too."
"If you go to that concert, you'll be grounded for the rest of your life."
There was a knock on the door.
"How many friends do you have, Syd?" Her mother asked as she approached the door and just as she expected, it was one of Sydney's friends. It was Chris, Woojin and Hyunjin.
"Hello Mrs," they all smile brightly at her. She recognised them from pictures of Felix and instantly chuckled.
"Hello boys, don't you have a concert to be preparing for?"
"We do but we kinda need Sydney for the show, if that's not too much to ask for," Hyunjin said as politely as he could.
"I'm sorry but my daughter isn't going anywhere near those fans of yours. I can't have her hurt any more than she already is."
"We'll keep her in the VIP section."
"Still not convincing."
"We'll have guards watching over her."
"Nope."
"The guards will circle her."
"I don't think so."
Chris sighed before taking a step closer to Sydney's mother.
"I didn't want it to come to this but..." He leaned closer to her whispered something in her ear. Her smile grew once he took a step back again.
"Is that so?" She asked.
"Yeah, that's why we need her."
"And if she gets hurt."
"We take full responsibility. Sue us all you want."
She cocked an eyebrow.
"I'll only let her go on one condition."
"Anything," Chris smiled.
"I get to go too. And you film it and send it to me. I need to show it to my husband."
They all grinned and cheered before pulling her into a hug.
"Thank you, Mrs Smith. You will not regret this!" Woojin beamed.
