That Night

The late autumn had passed in blink of an eye. Rough cold made its way, seeping into the old rusted windows and into the room where darkness had fallen. Lights went out correctly at 10 in Silver Don Boarding school.

The night guard outside had already taken his shift narrowing his beak like nose in every direction. While Anne, the cook scrubbed her hands clean until her old palm began fraying and Miss Alba clicked the switch off, pooling the library in despair.

Martha, the Warden slumped down in her wooden chair, exhausted; without the knowledge that one bed was empty in Dorm 12.

Slow and muffled sobs broke through Ava's small petite figure as she backed away onto the wall. She searched for an alternative exist but found none. Why couldn't she just have stayed in her dorm? Ava cursed herself endlessly for the trouble she landed herself in. She should have never went to the East wing that day.

"I won't tell anyone, I swear. I-I won't"

"shh!" The figure towered over her, held her chin firmly and whispered, madness glistening "You won't, I know. But I can't leave a threat hanging around, can I ?"

The second figure moved out of the shadows ,her deep red roots blinding the night.

"Make it quick. We don't have much time"she hissed. Ava began to tremble harder than before. Her pleas went unheard as the figure forced down a sick liquid down her throat. She felt her veins throbbing, sweat breaking out on forehead. A sharp jet pain shot through her chest. Ava digged her nails onto her palm, not able to bear the pain. Suddenly she couldn't breath, gasping for air she clutched her chest. She tried to take deep breaths, but it was as if her lungs had given out on its own. Tears brimmed in the corner of her eyes.

"Let me go!" Ava said struggling to breath "Please"

The figure knelt down before her and took a strand of her black waist long hair and twirled it. Madness; the light brown eyes had madness englulfed in it. She flinched.

Outside, a feminine voice rang through the silent corridor "Ava!"

Frantic, sweat dripping through Bethany's forehead she yelled one more time but to no avail there wasn't any response. Bethany should have directly went to the warden or to the teacher's dorm. But she felt like she was running out of time. Her intuition said something bad was happening.

She circled the long corridor one more time. This time yelling at an inappropriate way. Curses flying around. Suddenly the lights went on and she heard shuffling of foots and approaching noises.

Louder and Louder the voices amplified, the lower Ava Adams plea went unheard.

"Bethh" Ava cried. A lone tear slipped across her pale cheeks.

Next moment, Ava was on the ground clutching and coughing until white foam broke out on her side of lips.

Her hazel brown eyes prayed for the pain to seize until her eyes rolled back into her head, eyes closing on its own. The figure stood watching until Ava's last breath was taken away and the remaining fight left her soul. Her limbs seized and one last tear escaped her eyes as Ava Adams took her last breath.

"A little too late"
