Surging

Sorry for not updating lately, but I have a good reason! The past two days, I've been at the doctors and I haven't been home all day. The other reason is that I was uploading my very first YouTube channel, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to work it at first. But I got it! and now I'm back XD

And sorry for uploading this so many times. I got some complaints about not being able to see this chapter. I thin we're good now though.

Castiel fell back into the rhythm of school life fairly easily this time, going through the first few weeks with Dean in a drunken happiness. Even when he's just sitting in class, he could feel his grace surge with happiness, whisping through the doors and halls until it found the soft green of Dean's, running around it before returning to his own body. Sure, it made him lose concentration every once and a while during class, but he didn't mind it.

The first time a sudden, uncontrollable surge was when he was making their daily coffee. His grace shot out haphazardly, shattering the cup in his hand and mixing blood with coffee as the shards fell onto the counter. It didn't hurt, but he couldn't help but let out a instinctual yelp, his heart skipping a beat as he jerked back and the blue light quickly retreated back into his body.

"You okay, Cas?" He heard Dean say only a moment later, worry in the Winchester's eyes as he hurried into the kitchen. Castiel nodded, staring at the broken glass with a confused frown, feeling the slow sludge of blood throbbing down his hand.

"I'm fine. It just...shattered." Castiel replied, not sure how else to explain what just happened. He was so caught unaware that he didn't even notice Dean had grabbed a rag and was cleaning off his hand until Dean's soul brushed against his own, transmitting his concern over to Castiel.

"We can clean that up, as long as you are okay." Dean answered, wiping down the counter and carefully scooping the glass into his hands. He threw it away before grabbing a clean mug, setting it down and pouring fresh coffee into them.

"Thank you." Castiel said, still a bit distracted as he pecked Dean's forehead, a bit lost in thought as he walked over to the counter, grabbing his trenchcoat that rested there. "I have class in ten minutes, so I'll see you this afternoon. "

"See ya, Cas." Dean replied, sipping on his coffee and giving Castiel a small farewell wave. For some reason, his grace stung his chest, coiling into a ball and squeezing around his heart. It left him struggling to breath, and he left as quickly as he could so Dean wouldn't notice the tears beginning to well in his eyes.

Shreds of paper floated through the air in front of the shocked Castiel, everyone's eyes turned towards the mess in shock. The professor had stopped mid-sentence, her eyes wide as Castiel struggled to not let his face give anything away. His agitated grace, invisible to the human eye thankfully, pulled back from some poor student's text book it had obliterated, leaving nothing but scraps of paper and clumps of cardboard at his desk.

No one knew what happened but Castiel, but it seemed that the more suspicious of the group seemed to get a frightened look over their features, whispers of ghosts and demons beginning to fill the room. The professor had turned pale, and she set down her own book, backing away from it in fear of the book ripping itself up as well.

"H-how about we just cut the class short today?" The professor said, giving the students a weak and shaky smile. Most of the students seemed just as spooked as her though, so they agreed without a word and began packing up. Castiel swallowed nervously, packing his things as quickly as he could and struggling to get to the door before his grace surged again.

He wasn't fast enough, and screams filled his ears as a luckily empty desk flung itself across the room hitting the wall before metal and all broke into small pieces, seemingly ripped through and through by nothing. At that, Castiel ran from the room as mass panic broke out, his wings fidgeting against his skin as he ran from the building, a tree creaking as he darted past, some of the bark showering him and leaving him with the feeling of his throat closing in on itself.

Castiel gets back to the dorm to find the lights off and himself all alone. He can't help but thank his father silently, knowing that Dean would be in danger with his soul surging like it was and proceeded to drop his things beside the door, moving to his bed and collapsing onto it. His grace surged again, but at much more normal pace, pressing against his skin before fading back into it's place, leaving him restless and a bit agitated.

However, he forced himself to close his eyes, forcing it under control while he waited for Dean to get back from his classes. His foot tapped on the bed again and again as he waited, his mind slowly counting down each minute to Dean's last class. Finally, two-thirty passed, and he knew that Dean would be home in just a moment.

The door to the dorm opened, but Castiel lost control for just a moment, and his grace surged, smacking into the ceiling and chipping off several flecks of paint that fell to the floor. The blue smashed into brown, tearing at it, and it wasn't until he felt the soul push back that he struggled to pull his own grace in, his eyes ripping open.

Sam was standing at the door, one hand over his face, cut and bleeding from the sudden assault. His eyes were wide with shock, his face stained with...tears? Castiel felt his breath catch in his throat, not even having to ask as he saw the ringing of a phone in Sam's head, tears welling in his own eyes as he slowly sat up.

"Dean...he's..." Castiel began to say, but stopped, his breath catching in his throat as Sam nodded, cradling his hurt arm in hand. The angel could see the questions in Sam's eyes, but he knew that it would be put off for another time.

"He's in the hospital. I just got the call."
