The Thief of Time

He saw it coming

couldn't stop it

it had no reason to be here

but there it was

the horror story

that intruded every day

destroying brain synapses

creating memory lapses

and replacing them with

uncertainty and fear

Over time it soon commanded

more and more each day

no defense from its demands

or its unrelenting progress

no mercy or reprieve

for the time of good invested

just a smashing of the mold

leaving misery untold

and consequences

no one understands

To live alone is one thing

might even be a choice

but to spend a life with someone

and then watch them disappear

is an agony from hell

so undeserved

the erosion of foundation

lacking any explanation

robbing both of all the things

yet to be done

In the end there is no winner
