43; fishing for dummies pt. 1

Finally, we are having a one week break from school. Not that I did much in school. My performance is actually going down the slope but I'll worry about that later. Or when my Dad sees my report card. I should practice fake crying so he won't get mad. I heard from other girls in my class that it works well for them. It's going to be fine. All students go through this phase.

"Venus, Syd's here!" Dad called out and I came running out of my room to body slam her.

"Syd!!"

She made a war cry and tripped backwards on her bag then back on her bum. Dad passed by as he carried cooking things that we might need, "Girls, be careful. These things might fall on you. We don't want an accident."

"Yes sir." I replied and helped my best friend up. She fixed her glasses on her face and glared at me. "Fine, I'm sorry. I just have too much energy in the morning."

Syd sighed and let it go. "You should save it for later, you know. I'm sure the guys are all excited like you."

"And you're not?" A huge grin stretched along my lips. I nudged her side with my elbow lightly. "Someone's finally spending time with her boyfriend after what, two weeks? Jimin was complaining all the time when you were gone. I bet you couldn't focus on studying."

"Shut up." She replied, hiding the smile that's about to blossom on her lips. "Just so you know, I did well at the cram school. I might get into the first University I chose. How about you? Have you chosen where you want to go?"

I frowned when it backfired on me. To be honest, I have no idea yet. I don't know what I want. What should I do for my future? How do other kids know what they want to do for the rest of their lives? The future is so far away yet I feel like my time is running out.

"I'm still thinking." I told Syd.

"Girls, it's time to go." Dad called us to get in the car so we can get on the road.

Sydney, is coming with us on our 3 day fishing/camping trip. The guys will be coming too which my Dad already gave the OK for. I hope they don't act like their normal selves because it's not normal. Maybe they'll behave if there's an adult around. Why am I worrying so much?

We'll be fine.

And that was the biggest lie I ever told myself this week.

There was slight rain as we are driving to the campsite where my Dad and I go to every year. It's a 3 hour drive from the city. The guys rented a camper van and assigned Jin to drive since he's the only one with a license but I heard he only got it this year. I'm a bit worried but I guess they'll be fine. I messaged them the directions to get to the campsite and closed my eyes for a bit.

I opened my eyes to a loud knocking against the window. I realized that we're already at the camping site and I fell asleep through the whole ride. I don't know what it is with cars but I fall asleep instantly once it starts moving.

I sat alone inside the car and beside me, someone's cheek is pressed against the window as he is trying to look into the tinted glass. This idiot.

"Come out, Vee!!!" Jimin yelled outside. "Venuuusss! Yoo!!"

"You know, you can wake her up the normal way?" Syd pulled on his arm, getting him away from the window while laughing at his silly boyfriend.

"Did she not sleep last night?" He asked his girlfriend.

I could see Syd shaking her head slowly. "She's probably too nervous to sleep. She told me she's going to talk to her Dad about playing baseball.. She's finally going to stop lying about it."

"She lied about it!?" Jimin exclaimed, "Wow. How did I not know any of this. Wait, why though?"

"It's a long story and not really mine to share." Syd replied with a shrug.

"Does Jungkook know?" He asked and she nodded her head.

I swung the door open so suddenly that Jimin had to jump to avoid getting hit. "Goodmorning, lovebirds!"

"Hey!! Be careful where you swing that door!" Jimin scowled towards me. "I'm lucky I have fast reflexes. Or else I would've fell and hit my head on a rock then I'll be in a coma for a year and wake up with complete amnesia."

"Quit being dramatic." Syd rolled her eyes at him but smiled afterwards. "How many times have you watched 50 first dates without me?"

"I watched it every time I missed you." Jimin pouted as he said this and they proceeded to hold hands. "That's like more than a hundred times over."

"Can you not? Not in front of me please." I requested politely as I stepped down. They somehow managed to calm their urges down.

"Hey." He called out with a smile as he walked towards us.

"Hey," was my reply with a stupid I'm-in-love grin because I am reminded that I have the hots for him after not seeing him for a week.

"So, we're gonna go now to give you some privacy while you make out." Jimin teased while gently tugging on Syd's hand.

"Jimin!" Syd raised her voice but deep down she liked his joke.

"We are not doing that." I called after Jimin and he grinned back at me.

"You obviously will. Stop denying it." He told me. "Trust me, you will. Thank me later."

Jimin winks before he disappears on us. I rolled my eyes at him before I turned to face Jungkook. His eyes met mine and I am once again reminded of his annoying but attractive face. "So, let's go?"

He nodded and I took the first step away but I couldn't make the second step. In a blink of an eye, Jungkook pulled me towards the back of the car and pressed my back against it, "Actually, I do kind of want to try making out."

"What?" I was taken aback. Slightly blushing. "For real?"

"Yes?" Jungkook averted his gaze and there it is — the magnetic body language. "Is it weird? Or too soon?"

"I've.. never made out with anyone before." I admitted, shying away.

"Me too." He said back.

We both looked at each other and, all of a sudden, there was this magnetic pull between us. Jungkook is leaning over to me and I was doing the same.

"Wait!!" I held my hand out in front of me to stop him from moving closer. "Maybe it's not a good idea to do that when my Dad is here."

"Yeah, you're right.." He looked down and quietly apologised before walking away.

I caught his arm and stopped, "Hey, is something wrong?"

He looked at me with hesitation in his gaze. He wanted to tell me something but he only gave me a smile and brushed it off, "Nah, it's nothing."

"No, there is something going on with you." I told him, not letting go of his arm.

"It's just.." He turned his body to face mine and lifted his eyes up to look at me. "I missed you and you didn't text me once in two weeks. I kinda felt like shit because I like you a lot.. but you don't seem to like me that much."

I wanted to burst out laughing but I'd feel bad and he is too cute right now! Like a sad bunny with his ears hanging down.

"I like you a lot too." I said to him. "I'm just not good at expressing it.. and you know I was focusing on my studies."

"I know." Jungkook replied and then shook his head. "I'm sorry. I don't want to be clingy. I just can't help but think about you and not being able to talk to you when all I wanna do is be next to you is really hard."

My heart was about to leap out of my chest. Both his words and actions are too cute for my poor heart. I yanked on his hand to hide the two of us behind the car. His back was against the car.

"Tell you what. I'm gonna let you kiss me if it will make you feel better." I offered him a deal. I gripped on the hem of his shirt and closed my eyes.

I felt all sorts of things as our lips touched, softness, warmth, spearmint and his strawberry chapstick. I don't know how to describe it. I never imagined a guy's lips would feel so soft.

Jungkook broke away and it was over in an instant. I opened my eyes and looked at him.

"Was that, um, okay?" Jungkook said, still processing the details.

"I think so." I chuckled, my heart still beating fast. "I liked it."

He grinned from ear to ear. "Me too."

Jungkook went into authoritative mode all of a sudden. "but next time don't just jump on me like that. What if your Dad really saw us?"

"Okay, fine!! You were the one who was all pouty and sad." I replied, teasing him a little.

"When was I all pouty and sad?" He denied. "I'm always cool and aloof. It's my thing."

"Alright, Mr. Cool and Aloof, can you just act normal so the others won't think you're acting weird?" I chuckled.

"I am normal." He answered like he has no idea how he looked right now.

"No you're not. You have a big grin on your face and you're bouncing like a spring." I pointed out to him. "The normal Jungkook doesn't have a spring in his step. You look like a Disney princess!"

"I can't help it. I'm just happy." Jungkook replied and I really do feel bad about this.

"I know.. I'm glad you're happy. I happy too but, maybe try to be less happy?" I tried to reason out but I know I am not being reasonable at all. "Just act like the usual you, arrogant."

"Arrogant? Really?" Jungkook laughed. "That's the normal me?"

"Yes." I answered cheekily.

Jungkook finally agreed and promised not to act too obvious. He did good on that promise. At least he was able to suck in all the happiness seeping out of his pores.

"Vee! It's about time you got here." Tae spotted me and excitedly made his way towards me.

"But I smile now." Jungkook leaned close to me and whispered. "So I'm not Mr. Aloof and Arrogant anymore."

"Maybe still a bit arrogant." He said and then walked away, glancing back at me with a smirk.

Everyone was busy putting up the tents. Well, the guys are at least attempting to but they are miserably failing. Especially Namjoon and Jin and Jimin.

"Uhh, where does this stick go again?" Namjoon held a pole as he scratched the back of his head.

"Goes up your ass." Yoongi blurted out with a straight face.

"Ha ha real funny." Namjoon just shrugged him off, leaving Yoongi alone to go over to Hoseok.

"Wait! I'm still reading the instructions.." Jin got the whole instruction manual booklet covering his face, nose deep into it. "I think that goes into the ground?"

"The longer one or the shorter one?" Jimin held two rods on each hand. Completely clueless.

"You guys really don't know what you're doing, do you?" I asked them and decided to step in to help them or else they'll be sleeping in the cold later and become blood banks for the mosquitoes.

"No, we got it." Jin tried to protect his ego.

I sighed and took the rods from Jimin's hand. "Just admit it. You don't know how to do this."

"Okay, we don't got it." Jin gave up and the four of us set up the tent. I told them where the rods go and how to secure it to the ground.

"Oh wow. That wasn't really hard to do." Jin said afterwards.

"It looked so difficult in the beginning and I didn't understand the manual. You're really good at this, Vee." Namjoon added with his hands on his hips.

"Yeah, my Dad taught me. We go camping every year." I replied, "If you need help with anything, just ask me or my Dad."

I left them to find my Dad. He was with Yoongi by the stream. They held up their fishing poles and it looks like they are having a good time. I went up to them just to see if Yoongi haven't let anything slip to my Dad before I could talk to him in private.

"Hey Dad.. and Yoongi." I stood between them, eyeing Yoongi because he's being awfully suspicious.

"Hey darling. I didn't know you have a friend who likes fishing." Dad seems fond of Yoongi.

"I do?" I looked at Yoongi with a look that he would understand.

"Of course. I just haven't had the chance to tell you." Yoongi said and showed me a gummy smile. The kind of smile that will make you think what he's scheming. "I'm totes interested in fishing."

"What are you up to?" I scooted close to him.

"Nothing." He told me with a big grin.

"It's rare for a young man to be interested in fishing." Dad spoke and looked at us. "I'm glad that Venus has friends like you, Yoongi. You know, fishing requires a lot of patience. I somehow find it similar to raising a kid. You won't understand it now but when you have children of your own, you will."

Yoongi nodded like he could relate to raising kids. "I know. I have children of my own."

I couldn't help but react. "You have kids??"

"I have two iguanas. They're basically like kids." Yoongi said and my Dad laughed out loud. "You know, you have to look after them, tell them not to make a mess, feed them, water them."

"Uh, Yoongi, you don't water iguanas." I gave him a look. "You give them water."

"Oh yeah, I was talking about a different thing." He replied and I am just baffled.

My Dad laughed, "Iguanas huh."

Yoongi smiled at him. "Yes sir. They're very interesting creatures."

"Oh, you don't have to call me sir, just call me David or Dave. Any friend of Venus is a friend of mine." My Dad said. I looked at the both of them and now I get it. He's sucking up to my Dad. Oh, he's very good at this.

"Uh, Dad, can I talk to you in private?" I said to him and gave Yoongi the We will talk later look.

Yoongi wasn't happy when I kicked him out but he had to go. I'm going to tell my Dad everything. I have to tell him now or it's gonna be never.
