Chapter 1: Frog's Blood
Why is life hell? I'm a vampire, but I should have a decent existence. I'm a noble, so why am I roaming this godforsaken realm? I hate the human realm.
I'm Sanneroal Cruorin Robirak of Zerosallow. My first name is long, so I'm usually referred to as Sin. I'm the first prince of Zerosallow, with seventeen younger siblings. I should be next in line to the throne, but someone banished me. I'm now stuck on this freaking shithole of a realm, wishing for my servants.
Of all my siblings, I only have a fondness for one of my younger brothers, as he's my only full sibling. My brother's name is Hixrinas Sputum Robirak, but he's referred to as Hex. He's four years younger than me, at age thirteen. He's stuck here with me...
Now, the place where this starts. I was in some forest of the human realm; Hex and I both naked. We weren't given anything, nor were we in what we had. Someone ditched us the previous night, so I was currently lying in the dead leaves of trees. Dirt was in all of my crevices, so I was very uncomfortable.
My long blond hair was filled with leaf bits and twigs. I wished I could tie it up, or, better yet, cut it. It goes down to my lower back, so it's a hassle. I don't even like it, but my mother insisted that I keep it long. My blue eyes weren't fond of the sun beaming down on them. The sun was making my pale skin feel weird, as well. As a noble, I'm strong enough where I can stand the sun, while my old servants would probably have charred the top layers of their skin. I was just extremely hot, looks included.
I was sheltered and pampered, so I hadn't left my castle in a few years. The last time, I had to go to some peace treaty crap for us and another castle. I studied all of the materials to be a future ruler when I was little, and I have a great memory, so I still know. Since my studies were over, I was mostly in my room or practicing my sword fighting. I want my room back. Though I didn't really do much, I still made sure to keep my body fit. I am muscular, though I regret not doing more now.
While I was suffering, Hex didn't seem too bad. He was always outdoors, so I doubt he even noticed the sun. His blond hair is curly, as opposed to my straight, and it's short with each strand around four inches. He's even more muscular than me... Six packs don't belong on thirteen-year-olds... But he was the one who actually did physical labor... Since both of our parents are the same, we look similar, with the shared hair and eye coloring.
I needed to get Hex up, as I wanted to hurry and get some clothes and food. A caterpillar was making its way into his mouth, as well.
I walked to Hex, his mouth wide open. His face was strangely happy, which I couldn't comprehend in this situation. He sleeps with his eyes open, so he's creeped out all of our brothers and sisters. The sleep talking doesn't help either, especially when he'll occasionally cast spells on whoever is in the room. He accidentally made me brush his hair once, then he woke up and punched me in the face...
I nudged his shoulder, so it looked like Hex was getting up based on his mumbling. His eyes were blinking, so I assumed he was fully awake.
"Hex. You up?"
"Silence... I command you..."
And the bastard took my voice... He wasn't conscious yet... I thought to shake him next. The leaves were crunching loudly while I shook him. It looked like he was getting up, for real this time.
"Huh? Sin? Where are we?"
Hex didn't remember?... I couldn't even tell him. I gave the sign that I couldn't speak, pointing to my neck.
"Did I take your voice?"
Did he need to ask? I gave a nod since I couldn't tell him. My voice is slightly deep, but not as deep as some of my younger brother's. Hex's is prepubescent, but he tries to make himself sound a little deep.
"Speak. I allow it."
Hex's voice freaks me out whenever he uses a spell. It turns extremely deep, which is weird to hear out of a thirteen-year-old.
"Why are we naked in the woods?"
"You can't remember? We were ditched here last night," I reminded him, annoyed by the fact. His face looked like he was remembering. Hex has never been one to think in the morning.
"Right. I'm hungry."
"What do you suppose we eat? I don't know where any humans are, and, even if I did, I don't know how to trick one into letting us feed off them."
"We'll figure that out later. For now, we need blood. Follow me," Hex said, certain of himself.
"Are you suggesting we drink off an animal? That's disgusting, and I'm picky. There's human blood I refuse to drink, never mind animal crimson."
"It's not that bad. Remember when I spent a week lost? This is how I survived then."
"I feel sympathetic toward you now," I told, unable to imagine myself chugging animal blood.
"Don't be. I'm feeling pity for you... You never left your room, unless it was for the bathroom or sword practice. You didn't even eat with the rest of us."
"I was studying..."
I have a slight problem. When I lie, I tend to look away, and Hex obviously realized it.
"I know that's a lie. I stalked you once to find out what you did. You've memorized the books, haven't you?" Hex questioned, curiosity filling his face.
"What did you see me doing! Also, I memorized the books when I was your age..."
"Didn't you receive the books at that time?"
"Yeah... But what did you see!"
Hex was grinning in my direction. I was worried for what he saw... I had the right to be...
"A lot. I was watching for a week. You spent most of your time sleeping, but that wasn't all," Hex started, speaking cockily.
"Sleep feels good. Can I be blamed for enjoying it?"
"You also have a problem with blood. I didn't know someone could drink that much in one day... It was even more on weekends. Now, I understand why servants were always running around the castle with glasses of blood."
"I'm a vampire, so is drinking blood a problem? It tastes so good."
"You spent a good hour carefully brushing your hair daily."
"It gets really bad if I don't," I muttered, imagining how bad my hair was currently.
"You write poetry when you're bored, which I found comical."
"It's not funny, Hex... It's relaxing."
"Since you drank so much, you were constantly exercising in fear of gaining weight, which made you thirsty..."
"I don't want to be flabby... It was the only sane thing to do."
"You act like you don't want to date anyone, but you drew pictures of naked women and argued with yourself about what type you were into. You have a stash of these drawings under your bed," Hex mentioned with pity. On another note, I don't argue with myself too much... I can't decide hair and eye color... Maybe I'll just choose women with different types. That'd work.
"I don't want to date anyone from nobility. They're all distant relatives, which is disturbing. Also, you shouldn't be watching me do that! You can't expect me not to have urges..."
"Since no one, but servants, bugged you while you were in your room, you didn't bother to put on clothes and only changed to go to the bathroom, but you stripped when you got back. Strangely, you wore rings and necklaces consistently."
"Clothes aren't necessary if I'm not going anywhere. I thought I was in privacy... On another note, it's a bother to constantly remove and put back on jewelry. It's easier with clothes."
"When you get angry, you can't control it. You punched numerous holes in the walls of your room, and just in the week I was there."
"That's why we have servants. They can fix it."
"If you don't like how a glass of blood tastes, you dump it on the servant who brought it, which explains why the stones of the floor are covered in stains."
"They shouldn't bring me swill. I'm the eldest son, so they should know my taste," I justified, though it didn't convince him.
"Lastly, you swear at every little thing, which is another part of your anger issues."
"If I'm pissed, I'm going to exclaim it. For instance, why the hell did you enter my room, shithead?! As a younger, you shouldn't do anything against me."
"Yeah, but I don't really care. I'm your favorite, so you won't do anything too bad. If it was one of our other brothers, I'm sure you would've killed them," Hex claimed, knowing me too well.
"You've got that right, but I should leave you alone. We're both stuck here, and we need to get food."
"Follow me. I know where to look."
I didn't want to drink from whatever creature he was going to hand me... Hex doesn't get fazed by much, but I can't stand a lot. Though I didn't want to, I followed Hex.
The sticks on the ground were stabbing into my feet, and the rocks moved when I stepped onto them. I hated the sun too. Mosquitos were drinking my blood, so now I know what it feels like to have blood taken.
As we walked, the dirt had gotten moister. We were heading to a pond... Hex was humming, clearly in his calling, while I was feeling as if I was going to die. Going from excessive amounts of blood to none was giving me a feeling of withdrawal. Bad withdrawal.
We stopped when we were by the boggy waters. It smelled foul. Little eyes were staring at me from the water. I didn't understand why flowers as beautiful as lilies would grow here. My feet were covered in mud from the walk, squishing between my toes.
"You're thirsty, right?" Hex asked, grinning.
"Yeah... What are you thinking of?"
I was expecting an answer, but he jumped into the pond, dirty water splashing on me. It ran down my chest, causing me to shiver. Hex came back up with a filthy frog in his hands. He was dirtier than when he was only covered in dirt. He shoved the amphibian in my face, the thing trying to escape.
"I'll go look for more. Take this."
I was gagging at the thought of drinking that slimy creature's blood. I begrudgingly grabbed it from him, so it squirmed in my hands. Hex was laughing at my reaction.
"You're supposed to drink its blood. I will if you don't. It could be worse... You need this more than me. Your drinking habits are to blame."
"Why don't we just head to a town?" I groaned, looking at its slime. Hex didn't look very impressed with me. I really didn't want to eat this... I think it had pissed in my hands.
"It'll take a while to find a town. Suck it up and deal with this situation. I'll be back in a bit."
While Hex was off finding another frog, I was staring the one I had in the eyes. It was cold and sticky, and It smelled horrible. I started to cringe.
Hex emerged from the water, standing beside me. A frog was in his hands. It was squirming, but he held it firmly.
"You still haven't killed it? You're a wimp, Sin. Aren't you supposed to be older?"
Hex was getting on my nerves... I was angry, so I squeezed my hands. I felt blood seep in the crevices of my palms.
"Crap..."
"Hahaha. You just obliterated that poor frog. It's going to be worse now. You'll have to lick up the blood, getting its slime and muck on your tongue."
Looking down, I was hesitating to open up my hand. Slime and blood were between my fingers, along with parts of the frog squished out. Though I didn't want to, I opened. My hands were disgusting. Frogs have more blood than I'd thought.
"You can starve if you want, but I know you won't," Hex told, speaking in a mocking tone. He held his frog to his mouth, piercing its flesh with his fangs. The frog went limp, its size deflating.
I sucked it up, licking the blood from my hands. Shivers ran down my spine. It was putrid. I don't know why I continued licking it up, as I was starting to gag. The slime was between my teeth... I dropped the frog onto the ground, Hex finishing up as well.
"Your face is funny. It's all bunched up."
"I don't want to talk about this... Can we get to a town? I'm thirsty, but not enough so where I'd do that again," I mumbled, disgusted.
"Your nickname should be "Wimp" instead of Sin. Though, I guess you do follow the deadly sins."
"What do you mean?"
Hex stared at me with concern. I didn't know what he was talking about.
"Let's go over the list. Gluttony: You drink the most blood out of anyone. Lust: You draw pictures of naked women. Sloth: You sleep constantly, and you're all around lazy. Greed: You have a hoard of jewelry that's bigger than those of our sisters combined. Pride: You think you're the best since you're the eldest. Envy: You're jealous of pretty much everything, like the fact I can use magic. Lastly, Wrath: You'll take revenge on inanimate objects, and do you remember when we each had eighteen siblings? You're down a younger brother."
"He was an asshole. He was constantly challenging me, as he was only a month younger," I growled, pissed by thinking of him. I'm the oldest, so he shouldn't have crossed me.
"I don't miss him. I've convinced myself that your nickname fits, though."
"Yeah. Same with yours. You have the strongest magic of all of our siblings. I don't get why I can't use any..."
"You're more of a physical attacker, anyway. You could take me out if you wanted," Hex responded, making me feel better.
"Yeah. I don't really want to kill you. You're bearable when compared to the rest."
"How do I bear with you? Well, the others harass me, while you're too busy sleeping."
"I'm not into harassing. If someone annoyed me to that point, I'd rid myself of them." I mentioned, proud of my strength.
"I'm sure you would. Let's hurry and find a town."
I nodded, and our travels commenced. I wanted to get out of the forest as soon as possible.
