Chapter 7

The breeze blew slightly, cooling the temperature down a few degrees. But it unnerved Jordan, as soon as they had come within sight of Candly he had chill, like something bad was about to happen. Candly was a small town, not much to it. Didn't have much of a past besides being a farming town and housing mostly poor people. The Flarers didn't have much control in towns like these, thats why so many people were drawn to them.

The trio slowly closed the distance between themselves and the town. Dessa had been difficult to shut up, but after a few hours of ignoring her, she had eventually gotten the memo and had stopped talking. From their distance, they could see people going about their business. To get to the Badger Beaks tavern they would need to navigate their way through the town. Jordan had his pistol loaded and ready, no one knew what to expect.

It was Crosby who broke the silence. "We need to resupply, someone may have ruined the rest of our remaining food and water."

Dessa gave them a sheepish look, "Oops."

They had just reached the first buildings, a few people gave odd stares but most people ignored them, after all, outlaws weren't unusual in towns like these.

"We could resupply over there." Crosby pointed at a market area, where people stood at stands selling fresh food and other goods. "We could get almost everything we would need."

Jordan just nodded absently, he was watching a man in a dark jacket walk into an alley. Nothing  to suspicious, but he just couldn't shake that feeling that something was wrong. Very wrong. You go ahead with Dessa, I'll be a minute. They gave him odd looks but Jordan was too busy thinking to notice them. He walked after the man in the black jacket and came up to the alley way he disappeared into not thirty seconds ago.

It was a dead end, yet no one was there.

He walked into the alley, there was no where to hide. Besides the garbage that littered the ground, all that was there was the brick walls that lined the building around him.

"Were you followed?"

Jordan jumped, he looked around for whoever spoke to him. No one was there, he was beginning to be frightened.

"No, I don't think anyone noticed me. You got the stuff?"

Jordan know realized the voices were coming from below him. He could hear them through a grate that led to the sewers. So that's where they went... Jordan squatted down to listen to their conversation, making sure to be extra quiet.

"Nearly died getting it, the dealer and I were caught in a Flarer raid. He'll need to relocate so don't be expecting much more for a while."

"Yeah yeah just give me it, how much do I owe ya?"

"Three hundred."

The other man grumbled, Jordan could here the clinking of coins and the handover of cash. He sighed, this was nothing important, just another drug dealing. Nothing that would bother him in the future at least. He stood up and started to walk away, still trying to be careful of noise. When he heard someone trying to push the grate off. Someone was trying to leave the sewers.

Filled with panic, Jordan sprinted, ignoring the noise he made. If they saw him snooping in on their drug deal, the odds were they weren't going to let him just walk away.

"HEY! Someones up here!"

"What?! Get him quickly you idiot!"

He quickly left the alley and sprinted towards the market place. Where was Crosby when you needed him? Even Dessa would be helpful right now, even if she was still planning on killing them, he wouldn't have minded the help. He sprinted into the sea of people and pushed his way through.

"Excuse me," and "Get out of the way!" were yelled and he found himself in the very middle of the crowd. He sighed, they couldn't find me here in all the people.

"Hey you! Have you seen any one that came running out of that alley over there, around seventeen, bronze hair?"

Jordan turned slowly, trying to look as calm as possible. The man in the black vest was standing in front of him with an angry expression. Behind was a bald man with a leather vest, who looked equally angry.

"Sorry, I don't know what you talking about," he lied. "What did he do to you?"

"He urm... uh,-" The man in a black jacket stuttered.

"He robbed us!" Filled in the bald man.

"Yeah, and he also... threatened us, and tied us up." The black jacket man told.

"Yeah! And now were trying to find him to take back our..."

"Figurines!"Said the bald man, while the black jacket said "Money!" at the same time.

The black jacket man turned to the other and whispered to him harshly, "figurines???!"

Regaining his composure, the black jacket man turned back to Jordan. "We'll be going."

They walked away, and Jordan quickly left them to find the person who eavesdropped. It was sort of sad in a way that they had asked Jordan himself. He resumed his search for Crosby, he found him and locked eyes a minute later at the bread stand.

"Where were you?" He angrily yelled.

"I followed a guy who was in a drug deal, they saw me but I escaped."

Crosby sighed, "You really need to stop getting yourself into situations like these, you're going to get yourself killed one of these days!"

"Yeah yeah, did you get what we needed?"

Crosby grumbled, "Yes we got it, Dessa wandered off to a stand over there selling dolls. Let's get her and leave."

Jordan walked in the direction Crosby had indicated and quickly found Dessa, she was angrily yelling at a vendor who sold mini dolls, some were toy like and others looked like they were voodoo dolls.

Dessa saw him and ran over, "can you believe this outrage??! I've been trying to buy these dolls but this IDIOT of a vendor is giving me OUTRAGEOUS prices!" She yelled in his face.

Jordan wiped his face and replied, "why are you even trying to buy dolls?"

"It's a thing." She said. Jordan shrugged, everyone had their things. Dessa turned back to the vendor, "I'll be back, count yourself lucky."

They left the vendor alone and met up with Crosby, "So where's the Badger Beak tavern?" Asked Jordan.

Crosby didn't answer, but just pointed at a tall roof poking over the other houses.

"So there it is."
