Fourth of July

The group of friends were all invited to Luke's house for a little party for the fourth of July.

Luke made sure to invite his closest friends, which consisted of Jonathan, Evan, Anthony, Brock, Marcel, Scotty, Craig, Bryce, Brian, his cousin Shannon, Tyler and his little brother Kyle.

Everyone started arriving and they said hello to Luke and went to sit down in the living room until Luke began to cook some of the food for the cook out.

Everyone just sat around out side, just chatting with each other about things such as new video games that were coming out and what not.

Everyone was having a marvelous time and they couldn't wait until later that night when they'd get to set off fireworks, or so they thought...

A couple of hours had passed and everyone was still just hanging out and dancing outside with the radio jamming.

Evan happened to look up at the somewhat light sky, "Guys, look!" He said.

Everyone looked up to see what he was pointing at. It was five or six helicopters flying through the air.

"Have you ever seen that many helicopters fly together?" Marcel asked.

No one had ever seen such an event happen, some of them started to panic slightly inside because what if something was happening.

The music on the radio cut out and one of those warning sirens started playing, the ones usually used by the weather services to alert people about bad weather. This caused everyone to look at the radio when a voice came over on the radio.

"Attention... This is..."

The voice didn't finish because Craig had changed the radio station.

"Hey fuckface! Turn that back!" Kyle shouted at Craig.

"Why? It was probably just one of those stupid tests they're always doing." Craig replied with a bit of snark.

"Craig, turn it back now or leave my house." Luke warned with a glare.

Craig rolled his eyes and turned it back, letting everyone listen back into the radio announcer.

"I repeat... This is NOT a test... The United States government is encouraging citizens to stay inside and lock doors until the military signals an all clear for evacuations..."

Before anyone could say anything, loud sirens, almost like the ones used for severe weather or air raids began to blare.

"And to think you wanted to turn that fucking shit off dickhead." Evan grumbled.

"What do you think he meant by evacuation? Evacuate from what?" Brian asked.

"I don't know, but let's get inside and board ourselves up inside..." Luke said, beginning to motion his friends inside his house.

As they entered his house, they began to board up everything they could. They moved some bookshelves in front of the front door.

Bryce decided to sit down on one of the couches while everyone else helped out.

"Don't hurt yourself Bryce..." Jonathan hissed with sarcasm at how Bryce was just sitting there.

The group had worked for about 30 minutes to board up all of the windows and doors on this floor. They didn't have to worry about doing that in the basement because there were no windows or doors to the outside.

"Okay... Everyone know how to use a gun?" Luke asked.

Everyone saw Luke open this big cabinet, revealing a few different kind of guns, mostly semi auto rifles and pistols. He began to hand out various weapons.

"Don't you think that's a little unnecessary..." Craig asked as he was handed a pistol.

"Okay then, give it back." Luke Growled a bit.

Craig shut his mouth and took the pistol.

"Is Luke sure this is a good idea to give him a gun?" Kyle whispered to his big brother, Tyler.

Tyler snickered a bit, "I don't know. I mean, I highly doubt he'll use it. I don't think he knows how..."

Brian over heard Tyler and couldn't help but laugh as he told his cousin Shannon that. She giggled as well.

Luke had finished handing out guns and other things, like giving a crash course on the guns.

"Okay, so I guess we'll stay put until we get the all clear from the government..." Evan said.

Little did they know that they'd never get the all clear signal...

Day 35 

It's been thirty-some days since the beginning of this all. We're still holding out hope that one day we'll hear the all clear signal on the radio but that day hasn't come. I overheard Luke, Tyler, Brian and Evan discussing the number of supplies. They even went out to see if they could find more. However they only turned up with enough for a couple more days. Later today we'll take a vote and see whether we should get moving to somewhere else or to stay put. I think I know what I'll decide...

Day 36

Last night we all took a vote and the majority wants to get out and begin taking a look around, maybe even finding a new place to hold up. Craig and Bryce were the odd two who didn't want to do such a thing. They wanted to stay put but have been convinced to leave with us. I kind of wish that they could've stayed behind while we left.

The group had all decided leave and pack their things. They were bringing what little bit of supplies they had left and their guns as well and their ammunition.

One Year Later

Hello again Journal, it's been a while since I've been able to do this. It's been one rough year. We've been having to move to different places every couple of days. They say we'll soon find a place, and I hope they're right. It doesn't help that Bryce and Craig didn't make it. Craig was the first one to be bit. He insisted on us leaving him, which we did. Bryce was the one we had to put down, Evan had the honors of that one.

The group had been holding up in this small house. This was day two of being in it,  and they were preparing to leave again in a couple of days, in hopes of finding a new place, a larger place, almost like an abandoned prison or warehouse. Some of the members of the group were preparing to go out and look for supplies.

The group starts to argue about who should go get supplies and ammo. Both Shannon and her Cousin Brian stood there and watched as the others argued about something so damn simple.

"Me Anthony Marcel and Scotty went last time so it's your guys turn to go looks for supplies." Tyler says

"Now wait a minute, we went to get ammo last time." Evan says

"Yeah, we always have to do it. " Scotty whines

Then Shannon and Brian had enough of the arguing.

"Enough!! Me Brian Kyle Brock Luke and Jonathan will go look for food supplies and ammo. Now stop acting like little kids damnit." Shannon says with a loud sigh

Everyone was shocked at Shannon's reaction even Brian. She grabs her blade and shotgun and strapped it on her back.

"Well, what are you guys waiting for?" Shannon says with a sigh

The guys that were with Shannon follows while the others stayed behind and looked out for any zombie activity.

The small group had left their little house hideout and began to head to the nearby gas stations to see if they could collect any remaining supplies.

Luke was still shocked at how Shannon burst out of nowhere like that, however he knew she had a point considering everyone had been bickering for a while.

Kyle was a bit disappointed that Tyler didn't get to come, but he knew that Tyler usually does go out with the other for supplies. So it was maybe a good thing to give his big brother a break for a bit.

The group approached the first gas station and began to search. However they ended up with diddly squat aka nothing. That's how every single gas station was.

"Son of a fucking bitch." Jonathan grumbled as he kicked the dirt.

"I think there's a general store not too far ahead..." Brock said.

The group had arrived at the general store, even though the doors and windows were busted, it was still partially stocked, meaning that someone didn't take everything in there.

***

As the group entered, they went their separate ways to check each aisle for anything they needed or for anything that could be useful.

The store seemed relatively free from any zombies which was a good thing.

***

Kyle made his way down a second aisle and began to pack some more items inside his bag.

After he finished he stood up and turned around, only to bump right into a zombie that caught him off guard.

He stumbled backwards and landed on top of his bag. His gun and knife went flying as he struggled to keep the zombie above him.

"H... Help!!" The poor male cried out.

Someone came over and killed the zombie that was threatening Kyle's life. After he got up he looked at the female, Shannon, who had saved his life.

"T.. Thank you..." He stuttered a bit.

He began to get some kind of lovingly stare at her as she was his hero/saviour.

"Hey... Everything alright?" Luke asked as he and everyone else rushed over.

Kyle quickly answered, "Y.. Yeah! Just fell over a zombie..." He said, not being exactly truthful.

The others nodded and then Kyle went back to grab his bag, only to notice that the contents of the bag were crushed. Most of the supplies were not salvageable in the bag, causing him to sigh.

"Don't worry... Everyone back at the base will understand..." Luke said, patting his back as he could see the anger and fear in his face.

"I hope so..." Kyle mumbled as he and the others began to head back even if he was a little nervous about not having as many supplies as he originally would've.

As they were walking back, Shannon was walking behind with Kyle. She saved his life and totally understands that he covered up the part where she had stepped in and help him. Shannon kinda of had feelings for Kyle, but she was shy to tell him how she felt.

"I'm sorry your stuff got ruined but I can give you half of mine, you would have something to take back to the place." Shannon says with a smile on her face

"You don't have to if you don't want to." Kyle says

"But I want to and besides its the least I can do, Kyle." She says

Shannon hands Kyle some of her food and other supplies.

"Besides I had to get pads and girl stuff for me anyway. And the guys just leave me be on that subject but I don't mind helping out a friend. And you seemed disappointed by it, so being the caring person I am, I wanted to help." She explains with a soft smile on her face

Kyle thanks her again as they near the gun store/outlet to get more ammo which in the very back of the store where was cases of ammo that hadn't been touched by others.

"So, I guess we can come here to get more ammo if needed?" Brian says

"I would say so. I mean there is so much, I wonder why this store hasn't been touched hardly?" Brock says

"Maybe everyone was more worried about leaving to go to another country to even care about guns, since America was the only place to be hit with this Apocalypse." Luke says

"We need to start heading back, the bigger and more dangerous zombie walk the streets at night." Jonathan says

So everyone got what they could of the ammo and headed back to their little base that had heavy fences and had many traps for zombies to get trapped in. As soon as they all got inside, Shannon started helping Brian put canned goods away from dinner while Kyle Jonathan Luke and Brock help put up the ammo and other stuff away.

"Dude, we have a gun store that had a lot of Ammo. I say we stay here for a few more days before moving to the next town over." Luke says

The others nodded in agreement.

"That sounds like a fairly decent idea, plus we can loot the gun shop and get everything we need." Anthony said.

"Just a thought though, what if the store is booby trapped? Like, trip wires or something..." Kyle said, seeming a bit skeptical about it.

Tyler patted his little brother on the head and laughed slightly, not in a rude way though, "I don't think anyone would've been that clever." He said.

Kyle shrugged and nodded, he went back over to the groups supplies to organize them all. In all honesty, he was still a bit shaken up by what had happened to him today, considering he could've died and then he was saved by the cute female in the group.

"Whatcha thinking about?" Tyler asked, strolling over after talking with some of the others.

"Huh?" Kyle asked, looking up at his slightly taller and slightly older brother.

"You're spacing out there..." He laughed.

Kyle shrugged, "Oh, sorry... I was just thinking about stuff..." He said, casually taking a glance towards Shannon.

Tyler followed his younger brothers gaze and saw what he was looking at.

"I think you have the hots for someone..." Tyler teased and winked.

"I... I do not!" Kyle whisper stuttered, even if he actually did he didn't want to admit it, considering he wasn't sure if she felt the same way.

Tyler chuckled and patted his back, "And my GTA 5 character wasn't a pig..." He was obviously joking.

Kyle sighed as Tyler just patted his back again.

"Everything will work out in the end Kyle." Tyler said and smiled before walking away to leave his little brother to himself.

A couple days had passed and the groups took turns going down to the gun shop, and to the relief of everyone. The shop was not booby trapped. They looted it for everything it had, making sure not to miss a single useful item.

Shannon was up in her shared room with Brian, thinking about today. She was also thinking about her family and Brian's parents, wondering if they were okay and made it to a different country alright. She wasn't sure if cell phone work but she always kept her phone on charge, which surprisingly they had lights and plumbing. Just then, she heard a knock on the door and it was Kyle and she wipe some of her tears on her face so didn't see them.

"Oh, hey Kyle what's up?" She asked

"I was told by your Cousin to come help with dinner. Oh did I come in at a bad time?" Kyle asked

He had noticed that she had been crying but Shannon tried to hide it from him.

"Oh no you didn't just looking through my photos on my phone. Tell Brian, I will be down in a few minutes after I get done using the bathroom." She says

Shannon walks out of the room and heads for the bathroom.

"Dude, I'm telling you that the zombies at night are a lot stronger than the ones in the day time." Evan says

"How do you know that, Evan?" Tyler says

"Because I have been on the roof on night guard whenever we been leaving every other day. Where is these night zombies coming from? The day zombies are easy to take down." Evan says

Just then Marcel and Scotty walks up to them.

"Dude, you have to hear this. We were working on the broken radio today and we recorded what was said on the radio and this is a serious problem." Scotty says

Marcel fathers everyone around the dinner table as he pulls out his phone and plays back the recording.

"Beware of the night zombies. Don't go out at night for any reason unless you have a good light source, that's there only weakness and maybe fireworks. These stronger Zombies were originally from Prisons but when they died they were thrown into a toxic chemical that made them somewhat stronger. Also there's zombies that will explode if you get anywhere near them because they were used by scientists before the whole outbreak. If there's any survivors out there be sure to get everything done before the sun goes down..."

"So I guess we have to be extra careful if we ever go out at night." Shannon says

"Now let's eat and try to get some sleep.  I will do first watch by the upstairs window. " Luke says

Everyone gets done eating and throws their plastic plates and forks away in a trash can. Anthony went to take a shower. Shannon and Brian went to their own room. Kyle follows Tyler up to their shared bedroom. Luke was up on top of the roof and made sure to turn on all of the floodlights that he had installed to keep the night zombies away. Evan and Jonathan were already asleep. Scotty and Marcel were already in their bedroom walking about the recording broke they too went to sleep. Anthony just got out of the shower and headed for his and Luke's shared bedroom and goes to sleep. Brock decided to help Luke up on the roof because he couldn't sleep.

During the night everyone except for Shannon had a turn taking watch for zombies. Well her and Brian were the quiet ones of the group and don't share their emotions but the two cousins kinda had feelings for Kyle and Brock but wasn't sure how to show them.

A few days later, everyone woke up bright and early to get a head start and try to find somewhere they could actually stay and after traveling for awhile, they made it to a mansion that looked abandoned but had a whole lot of fences and Walls to keep zombies out.

"That place looks nice, and damn look at all of the fences and huge walls." Tyler whistled

"Maybe we have found our place!" Shannon says with a smile

They headed inside the gates and explore the area and made sure that it wasn't a trap or anything just to be on the safe side. As they were looking, Shannon tumbled onto a surveillance video room and surprisingly everything was still in working condition.

"Guys, I found a surveillance room with cameras all over the outside of the Mansion and I even found a switch that switches on the electric fence system." Shannon says

The whole group was amazed at everything this mansion had to offer.

"I thought secure places like this only happened in shows like The Walking Dead..." Brock said.

Everyone explored around the mansion, some of them taking a liking to the den/man Cave where there was a foosball table, a billiards table, a dart board and a bunch of board games.

"I wonder what happened here... Like why would someone just completely abandon an epic place like this?" Kyle said.

"Probably fear that the fences wouldn't keep those zombies out." Evan said.

The group began to lay their own plans on how things would run in the mansion. They created new watch patrol groups, two to remain in the surveillance room and two to go outside and lurk around the perimeter, obviously switching so everyone could have a turn at both jobs.

Jonathan happened to set his baseball bat down. As he did that, it fell over to the ground but it didn't land on a solid floor. Someone else pointed that out because of the sound it made.

"There could be something secret hidden beneath there..." Anthony said.

"Or a bunch of zombies waiting to rip our flesh off..." Scotty mumbled.

The group began to bash the wooden floor area they heard the hollow sound come from. Upon creating a hole, they saw a bunch of canned food and water stored down beneath.

"Holy shit! There must be enough stuff hidden in here to last us a month or two extra, added to whatever else we found earlier." Luke said, being as shocked as everyone else

Just then Brian and Brock walks up to the group with smiles on their faces.

"Guys, we found a bunker in the kitchen behind a pantry would be at and there's even beds in this secret room. And even the room is soundproof. " Brock says

"I feel like we are dreaming this shit up." Shannon says

Then Brian pinches her on the arm and she squeaks and blushes red.

"Brian, you asshole!" She says with a blushing face

"Anyway maybe we should that secret room forall of us to sleep in and keep an eye on each other." Marcel says

"But I guess we unpack  our stuff in that room and get settled in. Shannon did you happen to see any floodlights in the surveillance room?" Evan asked

"Oh yeah there's all kinds of floodlights everywhere on this Mansion." She says with a smile

"You would think that the President of America was living here with all this shit." Tyler says

Everyone was excited about having an amazing place to call home for now anyways.

Shannon was doing some exploring with her Cousin when they both notice something was off about one of the Master Bedrooms as if someone has been recently sleeping in the bed and befor they could do anything, they both heard a click of two guns and the head of the guns were pointed to their heads.

"Get on your knees now and don't scream out for help." The voice sounded familiar to them both

"David and Lui? Is that you?" Shannon says whimpering

They both heard the guns being lowered and dropped.

"Shannon, Brian?? We are so sorry. We have been on guard for so long!!" David says

Both cousins turned around and hugged them both and went to tell the others.

"Me Brian are with Brock Kyle Luke Tyler Evan Jonathan Anthony Marcel and Scotty. But Craig and Bryce didn't make it. Come on and let's go see the guys." Shannon says with a smile

Everyone had been gathered in the living room discussing plans when Shannon and Brian bought in familiar faces which made everyone a little happier.

Four Years Later

Hello, once again, journal. I'm writing this to say that it's been a year since it happened. We had been rescued one year ago by the government. Well, A government. The government of Canada since they teamed up with ours to help evacuate others.

It's been a few rough years for us. First we lost Craig and Bryce. Then we had to keep moving for a year until we could settle down in the mansion we had found. We stayed there for a long time, as long as we could. Sadly we ended up losing two more members of our crew, we lost Lui and David due to a hoard of zombies.

Ever since we were saved, we've been in Canada, living close to each other, and helping out the quarantine zones, to prevent another outbreak from happening. We even met some new friendly people such as Matt, John and Jaren.

Some of our friends even ended up together, such as Luke and Jonathan, Evan and Anthony, Brock and Brian, and of course me and my lover...

A knock was heard on the doorframe and the male turned around to see who was at the door.

"Are you coming babe?" The person asked, smiling.

"Of course Shannon..." The male smiled, closing his journal and setting it aside.

The two interlocked hands and she kissed his cheek.

"I love you Kyle."

He smiled back, "I love you too Shannon..."
