Iqball pulled Ballqis to one side as the group walked towards the campus hospital.
"Now they all know about T7. I feel like I just lost something precious. Isn't that odd?" he confided earnestly.
Ballqis gave him a crooked smile.
"Let's not tell them about that day at the beach when for a short span of time, we were in each other's head. I doubt it would happen again, but I do suspect at that same time T7 was exhausting all the wavelength he could tap," she said.
"He must have, that's a plausible theory," Iqball agreed.
"Yo Balls, this way," Mirna called as she nodded to the gang.
They were already at the hospital front desk where the personnel on duty said Mrs Jogh was waiting for her discharge letter and meds in front of the pharmacy.
They found the professor and Micah at the pharmacy waiting area.
"How are you, Mrs Jogh?" Aga spoke first to announce their arrival.
Mrs Jogh was delighted to see them.
"Don't worry about me. I was just shocked, that's all. But we have an important discovery to further investigate. Mirna, could you come to the lab tomorrow noon? I'd like to learn as much as possible from your friend, Scaly 7," Mrs Jogh immediately requested.
Mirna nodded.
"What, you really believe the fish could talk?" Micah asked in disbelief.
"I named him Babyfish. Balls call him T7," Mirna interjected, annoyed.
Mrs Jogh nodded.
"Micah, they showed me what the fish could do. Scaly 7 talks to these three. Or was it more than just the three of you?" Mrs Jogh checked, her eyes darted from Aga to Molly.
"No, Mrs Jogh. I haven't gone near the fish. I'm Molly Lara from the Actuarial Science Faculty and I just wanted to show you this video," Molly said.
She quickly fished her phone from her jeans pocket and played the video for Mrs Jogh.
Apart from Ballqis, the rest of them watched the video in confusion, but Mrs Jogh turned a little pale as she replayed it.
"Mrs Jogh, I'm sorry if I've upset you," Molly mumbled uneasily as the professor's face began to turn red.
Mrs Jogh stood up.
"Oh don't worry Molly. You've been a great help. Please send me this video. I know what to do with it," the middle-aged woman said.
"Wait, where are you going? You haven't been discharged," Micah reminded her.
Annoyed with her predicament, Mrs Jogh reclaimed her seat.
"Damn it, Egorov is still causing trouble after so long. Unbelievable," Mrs Jogh muttered bitterly.
The students looked at each other, perplexed.
"Who is Egorov, Mrs Jogh?" Iqball ventured.
Mrs Jogh sighed deeply.
"He's the reason my husband and Micah's parents are dead," she said.
It must have been the first time Micah heard this as well, as her words stunned the young man just as they did the rest of the students.
"What do you mean?" Micah said.
With teary eyes Mrs Jogh recalled.
"Maxim Egorov, filthy rich, greedy, entrepreneur. He wanted my husband and Micah's parents to develop a hormone that would make marine animals breed like rabbits. He was a professor at Gosu before he made his money selling his innovation, a biochemichal that would help fish stays fresh longer after they are caught. He managed to convinced us to be part of his marine expedition. He got greedy when he saw a shiver of sharks. He wanted to chase and catch them all and experiment his own lab's concoction. We crashed into rocks, I barely survived... "
Mrs Jogh sobbed and buried her face onto Mirna's shoulder. Micah's face looked ashen.
"We're really sorry, Mrs Jogh," Molly said regretfully.
"But how do you know it's him?" Aga wondered out loud.
"My husband and I studied under Egorov for five years at Gosu. He makes his students call him by his first name, but ensures they follow this one rule. Everytime we finish a class or a conversation, we do not say goodbye, we were forced to say, 'We win together'. And that's what Nastia said at the end of her phone conversation," Mrs Jogh said bitterly.
The students could only blink and gawk in response.
Molly was the first to react. As she nudge Ballqis for Mrs Jogh's mobile number, she asked.
"Is there a chance that Nastia is being used by this Egorov guy? She's too sloppy. She used Aga's ID to enter the lab outside her shift and even showed up when Micah requested for help. A criminal always returns to the crime scene, right? It's like she almost wanted to get caught."
Her rambling caught everyone's attention.
Mrs Jogh nodded.
"Can't rule that out. My husband was his pet, but after he started his tilapia experiment Egorov seemed bent on taking him off course. Six years ago he came to visit the lab. One of his assistant almost poisoned the whole population of tilapia we had. I caught her dropping tiny pellets that didn't look like what we used.
"Apparently three years ago Professor Maxim Egorov started a fish project on his own with Gosu and another university. He aims to develop a water and biochem composition that would make trouts grow twice as big," Iqball noted and showed the result on his quick googling.
Mrs Jogh nodded.
"I heard about his fish project but I didn't know he went back to Gosu to work on it. He must have had access to students there. Maybe Nastia is a pawn as you suspect, Molly," Mrs Jogh said.
"Then we better corner her and ask. What's with shocking the fish with the light anyway?" Mirna fumed.
"Sabotage," Micah answered, and for the first time he sounded polite.
"The tilapia project has been getting quite an attention, hasn't it? And during the Farmeca trip, weren't you interviewed by international media? Word of your tilapia project's success may have reached the lab in Gosu," Ballqis presumed.
"I can't believe he's being this evil. And petty!" Mrs Jogh exclaimed.
"Huh?" Aga breathed his confusion.
Mrs Jogh turned to him.
"You see Aga, he wanted me to work for him. But I just got too old to take instructions from a cantankerous man so I declined. At Farmeca, I thought I saw him among the audience, but I wasn't sure. But just the thought of him makes my blood boil, so much so I ripped the poor fish's gills. I wanted to show him that my project isn't vulnerable. He can kill my fish, but I can easily replace them," Mrs Jogh enthused.
"All except for Babyfish aka T7 aka Scaly 7," Mirna quickly pointed out.
"Gosh, Mirna, that's why I fainted in the first place. To think on that day at Farmeca I came so close to grilling our telepathic friend!"
