The young volunteers and researchers switched rides as they drove back to the University. Aga was fast enough so he made it to the main bed at the back of the RV. Micah went and bunked on the bed next to it.
The two students fell asleep as soon as the RV entered the highway. Ballqis and Iqball took pictures and raided the food cabinet and fridge.
Mr Evans played Jamiroquai tracks and told them to endure his singing.
Compared to Mrs Jogh, Mr Evil sounded like a bona fide rock star.
They regrouped with the researchers at lunch, where the pit stop was an especially large complex with several food outlets and a lookout point. Mrs Jogh, wanting to celebrate her win suggested they chose the eatery on the lookout point.
"I didn't realise you eat other things besides fish, Jogh," Mr Evans remarked.
Mrs Jogh laughed.
"Once in a while I do love turkey," she said sportingly.
But when she saw the place had salmon special salad instead of just chicken and kangaroo, she ordered two servings of the dish.
"You all should eat more fish," she said reminding them how good fish were for health.
"Don't you get tired of them?" asked one of the researchers.
"Never. That's why I want to save the planet from overfishing. I could eat most fish raw, you know," she answered cheerfully.
"Just quit snacking on your specimen, will you," Mr Evans reminded.
"But they are delicious! Honest," she noted with ease.
Ballqis and Iqball restrained themselves from exchanging looks. They focused on their seafood pasta and mushroom pizza dish.
"I know you like them so much, that's why I keep telling the lab guys to leave them for you," Micah said with a laugh.
"Oh yes, they are pretty expensive! I sure hope the five tanks we sent out to the breeders will deliver more fries this time," Mrs Jogh sighed.
Ballqis could not stop herself from asking.
"Is that where those fish tagged with the green sticker were sent out to?"
Mrs Jogh nodded enthusiastically.
"Yes. We partnered with a farm to breed them but we noticed they only tend to breed successfully in summer, I supposed true to their Southeast Asian origin. We were hoping to have them breed successfully given any climate so that a steady breeding and harvesting schedule can be suggested to future farmers of this species..."
Mr Evan laughed.
"Mrs Jogh really needs to have tilapia every day."
"Oh shut up Evil. You know that any temperature regulated breeding increases costs. Why do you think I haven't won Best Research for five years?“ she sneered.
Mr Evans roared, then so dif Mrs Jogh. The rest of them joined in.
"We think the last batch may have a solid chance," one of the researchers chimed in.
"Yeah, the male should sire more with four females instead of three," another researcher said.
Ballqis head was churning the information so hard that Iqball had to nudge her foot under the table.
But the girl couldn't shake off what T7 had last said.
"Do the breeders put all the females in the same tank of the single male?" she asked.
Iqball wondered what she was getting at.
"Yes, that's how the breeders increase the amount of fries," the quiet researcher answered.
"Is there a chance that this species is monogamous?" Ballqis asked further.
Mrs Jogh nearly dropped her spoon.
"Gosh, I never thought to check with the breeders as I had trusted they knew what they were doing. I had too much to monitor as it is so I had left it to my partner in research to solve that. Goodness, I should go visit them as soon as we get back," said Mrs Jogh, excited.
"Well, well. Maybe you do have a career in research, Miss Ballqis," Mr Evans pointed out.
"I still would not recommend it," hissed the same quiet researcher.
The whole table roared.
"What inspired that idea, Ballqis?" Mrs Jogh asked suddenly. Her eyes twinkled with deep interest, making Ballqis a tad anxious to respond.
She giggled to cover her fear.
"I noticed the fish in Tank 7 likes to keep to only one side of the tank, the side next to Tank 6," she said cautiously.
Iqball's heartbeat began to accelerate.
Mrs Jogh mulled this for a minute as she chew on her salmon salad.
"Maybe we could try breeding the pair on our own. Put them in the same tank and see how it goes. We can start this Monday and compare data with the ones at the breeders," the professor decided.
"I'll get a double tank ready," one of the researchers volunteered.
"Yes, if you can't make space for it, place the tank at the corner of my desk in the lab. There should be enough power sockets around that area to support a clean set up," she noted.
Iqball heaved a tiny sigh of relief.
The thought of T7 being moved into the researchers' side of the lab paled him.
He wanted to know what else T7 could do. That was the reason he didn't want to part with the information with Mirna. He was not ready to let the senior kidnap the fish to so-called safety.
As they walk back the RV Ballqis quietly apologised.
"I almost got T7 written off for transfer!" she whispered, kicking herself.
Her admirer quickly put her at ease.
"You didn't. And who knows, maybe you're uniting two hearts that had a glass wall between them for so long. Maybe T7 will like it," he said as he tried to be optimistic.
Ballqis took a look at him and knew he was not fully convinced.
"I hope so," she sigh.
"They will love it. I'm sure."
The duo decided to stay away from the fish tanks, and took the seats next to the driver.
"I knew I'd be able to convert some of you into Jamiroquai fans!" Mr Evans welcomed them.
At the end of the journey the three of them were singing along to Virtual Insanity.
