One: Yevnoik
The sounds of seagulls cawing filled the air as Yevnoik Xenakis headed down the old, creaky, boardwalk staircase and onto the beach front. He loved visiting the beach. It reminded him of old family trips.
Most of the time the trips would be to coastal cities. His family would quickly have the locals falling head-over heels with them; well, that was because their siren hypnosis. At the end of the vacation, his family would end up with a plethora of crimes they committed and laws they broke.
Yevnoik's family was known for doing things like this. His family was practically chaos incarnate.
Firstly, there was Yev's older sister, Brynhildr. Brynhildr made a living on stealing biker gang's motorcycles and selling them wherever she could. And the motorcycles she couldn't sell by daybreak? Well, Brynhildr just kept them for herself. She added them to her ever-expanding collection of motorcycles. Brynhildr had so many that she once had to take them all to an abandoned parking garage. Since then, Brynhildr had gotten even more of them.
Next there were Yevnoik's older brothers, Zaizriiel and Noaah. Zaizriiel was the eldest sibling and a force to be reckoned with. Zaizriiel didn't speak that often, so if he did speak, you knew he was mad. Zaizriiel scared Yevnoik. And Yevnoik was sure that Zaizriiel would take pride in that fact, if he knew.
Noaah. What was there to say about Noaah? Noaah was reckless. In the Dark Ages, Noaah and a couple of his friends--Agnar, Altaïr, Syn, and Athanasia--had constantly pillaged and plundered everyone they could find. After all, they were Vikings. But, alas, because of that, Noaah still seemed to be in the mind-set that he could just steal peoples' possessions and raid peoples' homes. He did this especially to the elderly.
Sometimes, if Noaah had been reckless, you'd see elderly couples chasing him through the yard. Most of the time it was in night-gowns, robes, and bunny-slippers.
Then there was some of Yenvoik's other older siblings like Wanda, Arii, and Ioniyskiy.
Wanda and Arii--just like their other siblings--were always getting into trouble. According to Noaah, they had even been like this back in first century. They never seemed to change.
Yevnoik knew far less about Ioniyskiy. Yev had never met him; he had only heard Ioniyskiy's name brought up in casual conversation.
Then there were some of Yev's younger siblings--which he had plenty of. But, Yevnoik never really got to hang out with them. Most were busy with their own things; and Lukyan was usually out with "official saving the world business".
Yevnoik probably had a whole lot more siblings that he didn't even know about.
Then there was his own mother, Zephyria Xenakis. Zephyria was the oldest and most powerful siren to ever exist. She also had very high status in the paranormal world. Zephyria often told stories about how 'she was raised by a God of Death and a were-fox'.
Zephyria was also known for trying to scam humans into doing the most idiotic things. She once convinced a mortal man to eat a brick--and he did. Zephyria seemed to think it comical to mess with the mortals.
Yevnoik sighed and shook his head. His family was always getting into trouble. His family was a complete and utter disaster. Yev thought for a moment before chuckling a little bit. Yes, his family was a disaster, but they were his disaster family.
Yevnoik's family meant well, even if it didn't seem like it. They just wanted to spice things up and make things fun for monsters and humans alike. They just sometimes acted before thinking and didn't have a full plan developed.
A breeze blew past where Yevnoik stood, fluttering the purple tips of his hair around.
From what he had seen of human progress, Yevnoik was actually sort of proud of how far humanity had come. Sure there were somethings that still needed to be fixed, but still.
Yevnoik hadn't seen many centuries, unlike his older siblings. Yevnoik had been born in 1393, a couple of decades after the bubonic plague ravaged Europe and surrounding areas.
Yevnoik sometimes wished he had been able to see some of the things his mother, Zaizriiel, Brynhildr, Noaah, Arii, Wanda, and Ioniyskiy had seen; but, deep down, he knew that it was nearly impossible to go back and witness historical events like that. He'd have to talk to Koios, a god of Fate and Time, just to have a chance to.
Tides crashed into the shore, bringing shells, hermit crabs, sea-stars, and a plethora of other things with it.
Yevnoik often found himself watching the waves whenever he was in a dire need to unwind. Recently, a lot of political wars had taken place in the paranormal world. They stressed Yevnoik out severely.
Yevnoik's red and silver gaze wondered. It came to rest on the cliff-face. Yes, he thought. That would be entertaining. Moving from his spot, Yev headed back on the board-walk and up to the cliff-face.
The board-walk had continued even onto the cliff.
Yevnoik admired the view. It was beautiful. One could see so much up there.
Now, time for the fun part, Yev thought. Yevnoik took a breath before backflipping off the cliff-face.
His plan was to land in the water. He'd swim far after doing so. Who knew where he'd go. After all, sirens could breathe underwater.
Only, Yevnoik didn't fall. He just dangled in the air. He gazed up.
There stood a guy, no more than twenty-three. He had tanned skin, dark hair, and light magenta eyes. He smiled. "Don't worry. I've got ya."
Yevnoik huffed.
"You aren't gonna fall on my watch," the man said.
Yevnoik had the best plan on how he'd make it to the water. But instead, his plans were foiled by a... mortal. He couldn't stand that.
"Stupid mortals," Yevnoik cursed, in a whisper tone.
"What was that?" The man inquired. "I didn't quite catch it."
Yevnoik didn't repeat what he had just said. Instead, he just began to scowl up at the man.
"Okay-o, friend-o. I'm gonna pull you up now," the man began.
Quickly, Yevnoik shot his leg forward, propelling himself out and then down. It had sent him hurtling towards the water.
"Woah, woah, woah, wait!" The man shouted.
Yev hit the ocean with a loud splash.
"Sir!" The guy shouted. "Sir! I can get some help if-"
Yevnoik didn't wanna hear all that stupid nonsense. Instead of just waiting to hear the man finish, Yevnoik dove into the cold, dark, ocean waters, not resurfacing afterwards.
