Be more careful.
"Seriously Magnus, you need to be more careful..." Ajit sighed from the doorway of the kitchen, watching as the raven haired boy got himself a mug of water. "Yes, I'll keep that in mind the next time I get shoved off the roof of a building." The older grumped heading over to the fridge.
"That wasn't what I meant and you know it."
A shrug.
"Need any help?"
Magnus let out a loud groan, "No Ajit, for the millionth time I do not need any help."
"Okay.. Just checking."
Magnus had been lucky, he'd gotten shoved off a five story building but had avoided any serious injury by landing in a tree. However the amount of aches, pains and bruises that he'd gotten from that was not in any way small, not to mention he'd managed to twist his ankle. The reckless idiot would've just ignored all his injuries and kept on as normal if Ajit hadn't been awake when he'd gotten in and stopped him from doing exactly that.
"Magnus?!" Ajit blinked, taking in the state of his roommate as he entered their room. "Huh, oh you're awake... What is it?" the taller had replied, reaching down to take off his boots.
"You're limping! Are you okay? Wait, your face is covered in scratches! What happened?!" Ajit questioned, a look of concern on his face.
"I'm fine."
"You're clearly not!"
"I'm telling you, I'm fine."
"Magnus, if you were fine you wouldn't be limping."
"Cut it out. You don't need to worry about me. I can take care of myself." Magnus said all in one go. "If you're ignoring that you're hurt then you obviously can't take care of yourself." Ajit snapped, earning a surprised glare from the taller. "Ugh fine. You want to know what happened? I got pushed off a building. Happy now?"
"YOU WHAT?! MAGNUS!"
"It's no big deal, calm down."
"Wh-! What do you mean getting pushed off a building isn't a big deal?!"
"Well I'm clearly still alive, and I walked back here so I'm obviously not too injured to do things. In other words I'm fine." Magnus replied stubbornly. "Just because you're alive and can walk doesn't mean you're fine." Ajit rolled his eyes. "Honestly, you need to go to a hospital, you might've broken a bone. How are you even alive after getting shoved off a building?" he realised. "A tree broke my fall," the taller shrugged, "And I'm fairly sure if I'd broken a bone I'd actually be in pain right now."
"You're telling me you're not in pain from all those scratches and bruises on you? You literally have a black eye Magnus."
"And? Your friend broke his arm tree climbing last week, a black eye and a few bruises are nothing. Now will you stop worrying, I'm tired and I want to get to sleep."
"... I'll stop worrying after you've been to the school hospital and been confirmed fine."
Magnus looked Ajit dead in the eyes, fiery magenta boring into warm amber, then pulled his boots back on. "You know what? Fine. If that's what it takes to get you to drop it then sure."
As it turned out Magnus was actually fine. Apart from the scratches, bruises and the twisted ankle, that is. However it was enough for him to have to have to stay at his dorm for the week and enough for his roommate to be ordered to stay there too to make sure he doesn't leave. While Magnus had called this instruction "stupid" and claimed he didn't need to stay in for a week because he's perfectly fine "Why isn't anybody listening to me?". Ajit was rather happy about this arrangement, as it meant he could make sure his roommate didn't do anything stupid like get himself shoved off another roof while attempting to stop a criminal. Not to mention after falling off the roof he'd still gone back and caught the guy who'd shoved him. Hearing about that had seriously gotten Ajit worried for his friend, while the older and taller boy was a lot more sensible than Ajit and his other friends in a lot of ways, he'd begun to realize that the self preservation instinct of Magnus was a lot lower than that of his other friends, The Awesome Brawlers. Even Dan wasn't as reckless as Magnus could be.
... Okay maybe the two were on an equal level of recklessness.
"Instead of worrying about me why don't you worry about the notifications you've been getting on your phone?"
Ah yeah, speaking of Dan, the ex-thief was certain he was the one spamming his phone. After all, he thought, unlocking his phone, who else other than Dan would message in the middle of class-
ShunShine: Dan, no...
Idiot of the year: Dan yes!
ShunShine: Please don't order pizza to your classroom...
Idiot of the year: but why not???? it'd be funny!!!
"Pfft-"
"I'm assuming your friends are being stupid?"
"They're your friends too, you know."
"Mm, what idiotic thing is Kouzo doing this time?" The ravenette dismissed the response while leaning over to see Ajit's phone. "Wow. Remind me how he hasn't gotten suspended yet?"
Ajit almost replied with "And remind me how you haven't gotten seriously injured yet." but managed to stop himself. "Who knows?" He shrugged instead, "Think he'll actually do it though?"
"Oh, I wouldn't put it past him..." Magnus responded, leaving the kitchen area to go sit on the couch. As if to prove this statement Ajit's phone buzzed again, a screenshot from Dan saying how his pizza order had been registered. Shun was already typing.
Closing his phone and tucking it away into his pocket Ajit followed over to where Magnus was now sat on the couch, taking a bite out of the apple he'd taken from the bowl in the kitchen. The two sat in silence for a moment and just as Ajit was about to say something about the chaos he'd just discovered in their discord server to break the silence, Magnus spoke. "Are we getting work sent to us or is this a week off?" The shorter paused. "I'm not sure actually..." Pulling his phone out he sighed "Right, I'll ask Kurin to send me notes from the lessons."
"I'll probably get Shun to do the same, if he's not too busy convincing Dan not to order pizza to the classroom again, that is." Ajit laughed, "So what are you gonna do for the rest of the day?"
"Probably some revision."
"Huh? Why?"
"What else can I do? If I tracked down locations criminals might target I'd want to go stop them but thanks to somebody, I'm not allowed to leave the dorm." The way he said it almost made Ajit feel guilty for worrying so much about his friend, almost. "Well... Sure that's not an option but what about video games?" He suggested eagerly, only to be met with such a cold deadpan stare from those deep magenta eyes of his roommate's that he couldn't help but shiver. "I've never played a video game and I don't know how to play them so that's not an option."
... One thought ran through the shorter boy's mind in that moment and he wasted no time in voicing it. "That doesn't mean you can't learn! C'mon I'll show you how to play Mario Kart!" He cheered, grabbing his friend's arm and pulling him up from the couch.
"You have to be kidding me..."
***
"Hmph, never played a video game before huh?." Ajit muttered. The two had been playing for two hours now, it had only taken Magnus two rounds to learn how to play. Ajit switched off his controller, placed it down and stood up. "I'm gonna get some food, you want anything? It's just about lunch time."
"Mm, I'm good. Thanks though."
"'Kay."
While Ajit went over to the kitchen area and started making a sandwich Magnus busied himself with another round of Mario Kart. That was when the chorus of the song headphones, Ajit's ringtone, went off. The Aurelus brawler picked it up and hit answer. "HEY AJIT! WHERE ARE YOU?! ARE YOU OKAY? DID YOU SEE THE SERVER?" The two roommates once winced at the noise. Turning off the small Bluetooth speaker that had somehow connected to his phone the smaller amber eyed boy replied to his friend. "Hey Dan. I'm at my dorm and I'm fine. Some stuff happened to Magnus so I have to stay here with him for the week to make sure he doesn't hurt himself again."
"Are you seriously calling getting shoved off a roof hurting myself? I didn't shove myself, therefore I didn't hurt myself. Besides I'm not hurt anyway!" Magnus interjected, not even looking up from the game. "Yeah, well you heard him Dan."
"Oohh yeah. Did you see the server though? Both me, Wynton and most of our class sent videos of the pizza guy there. It was CHAOS and so funny!"
"Oh no not yet, we've been playing video games for the last hour or something, I'll have to check it out though!"
The two talked for a few more minutes about random stuff before saying their goodbyes and hanging up. After finishing making his sandwich Ajit took both the plate and his phone over to where Magnus was just finishing a course on Mario Kart and sat down beside him.
"How many wins have you gotten now?"
"Mm... I got four while you were over there making a sandwich and talking to Dan."
"No one would believe this is your first time playing Mario Kart, let alone your first time playing a video game."
"Hm..."
Realising their conversation was likely over, Ajit opened discord. Like Dan had told him, there were two videos of the pizza guy, one from Dan, the other from Wynton not to mention a message from Lia saying how she'd recorded the whole thing with her camera drone and would upload it to their channel later. Leaning his head slightly on Magnus's shoulder Ajit began to play the first of the two videos. Dan hadn't been joking when he'd said it was both chaos and really funny. His teacher had tried giving the pizza guy detention, assuming he was a student dressed up but then after realising he was an actual pizza guy she'd turned to her class demanding to know who'd ordered the pizza. Even though half the class knew it was Dan from having checked the Awesome Brawler's discord server during class, no one said anything. In the end it just got dismissed as someone from another class trying to cause chaos.
"Huh. I'm surprised they didn't get caught. If not for ordering the pizza, at least for using their phone in class, the camera angle suggests that it'd be obvious they were filming."
At some point in the time while Ajit was watching the video Magnus had paused the game and had turned his head resting atop of Ajit's to watch the video with him.
"Haha I know right! I guess they were just lucky." Ajit giggled before adding "I guess we've all had our share of luck lately."
"Hm... I guess so..."
It was then when the two realised they were still leaning against each other and their faces warmed and flushed various hues of pink. The two moved their heads away from where they'd been resting, both already missing the warmth from the other. "So... 'You planning on playing more of that game?" Ajit asked in an attempt to break the awkward silence that had filled the air after their realisation. Magnus didn't reply. "Or are you gonna do something else?"
There was still no reply from Magnus. The older boy was staring into the space ahead of him, his mind somewhere else entirely. "Magnus? 'You okay?" Ajit lightly prodded his shoulder. "Psh. Yeah, I'm fine."
"You sure? You got pretty distracted out of nowhere."
"... Yes, I'm sure. Are you sure you're worried enough?" He sarcastically replied through gritted teeth. "You worry too much about small things, have you always been like this? I feel like I'm only just noticing it."
"Ah-..." Ajit couldn't think of a reply, he usually didn't get this worried. If it had been one of his other friends they'd just have been able to laugh it off, but with Magnus... Ajit couldn't help worrying, he had to make sure the other was okay. The reason why was no mystery to Ajit. But it's not like he could tell the other about his feelings towards him, at least not now...
Luckily for the shorter boy, the taller didn't wait for an answer. "Eh, whatever. It doesn't matter either way. To answer your question, yeah I am gonna keep playing this. Are you going to join in again?" Internally sighing with relief Ajit grinned, "Sure! Why not?"
"Because I'll win every time?"
"... Yeah that's actually a pretty good reason. I'm still playing though."
"Good."
***
"Hmph. I wasn't expecting you to win." Magnus placed his controller down and laid down on the floor, "Me neither honestly."
"Well you won't win next time."
Ajit grabbed a nearby cushion and threw it at Magnus's face. "Wha- Hey! What was that for?" The ravenette asked sitting back up and picking the cushion up with a glare at the shorter boy beside him. "Hahaha!" Ajit laughed, before being cut off by the pillow hitting him in the face. He blinked as it plopped down into his lap. "... Revenge."
"Oh you're on!"
The two began a pillow fight that continued on even after both cushions had been almost completely destroyed. It was just messing around and neither of them could keep the smiles off their faces. Eventually the two collapsed down on the couch leaning against each other, Ajit full on laughing and Magnus quietly laughing beside him. It was these kinds of moments Ajit loved, the ones when Magnus dropped his act and just allowed himself to joke around. The times when he allowed Ajit to tease him and when he teased back rather than just glaring at him. Ajit had no idea why Magnus was intent on keeping up a facade like that when he knew just how great the real Magnus was, but he knew better than to pry.
"I think I won that one." Magnus told Ajit, biting back a grin. "Heh no way. That one was my win." He looked up at the other (because much to Ajit's annoyance their height difference was still there even when they were both sitting) and stared him in the eyes. Only to regret it as he immediately got lost in the deep but clear pools of magenta that were Magnus's eyes, his bangs which usually cast a shadow over them had moved during the pillow fight so the shadow no longer fell over them, making his eyes appear brighter than usual. "Uh Ajit?" Magnus asked after about a minute of this silence and staring, a small barely visible blush creeping into his face. He wasn't met with a verbal response, but instead Ajit leaned up towards Magnus and-
The lips of the smaller boy brushed against Magnus's left cheek. A second later Ajit leaned back, the two resumed eye contact for a few seconds. Then as if time has returned to normal after getting stuck in slow motion for a minute, things started happening again. Ajit, in shock from what he'd just done, ran into his room and threw himself down onto his bed, burying his head in his pillow in embarrassment. While Magnus remained where he was sitting, his only movement had been to raise his hand up to his cheek, hovering right over the spot where Ajit had just- Kissed him? The realisation was beginning to sink in, bringing a searing heat to his cheeks in the form of a blush. Ajit had kissed him.
Later on there would be a conversation between the two where they'd both admit their feelings for each other. But for now they both stayed where they were surprised and in awe at the event that had just taken place...
A week later.
"You mean- You guys finally-?" Ajit gasped, staring across the other side of the table where Dan and Shun were sitting, holding hands. "Mhm!" Shun nodded happily, "Dan confessed Thursday last week..." He smiled up at his boyfriend. "Aha, I nearly didn't. 'Got nervous at the last minute but somehow I managed to still get my words out." Dan admitted, rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand, while blushing slightly. "I'm more surprised about you guys though, who woulda thought... The two of you, Magnus and Ajit, would end up together!"
"Haha yeah! It's still a bit of a shock to us too.." Ajit laughed. Looking away from his friends, at his boyfriend sitting beside him, who seemed to be more interested in fiddling with the loose threads inside the sleeves of his oversized purple sweater than the conversation going on in front of him. "Mm.." He responds, mind clearly somewhere else. The other three laugh.
"I can't believe so much happened in one week!" Ajit exclaims,
"Yeah! Pretty wild, huh..?"
"Yeah... It really is..."
