Chapter Thirty Five

"Dad? Dad?" Zoë whispered, poking Bakugo in the face gently. Izuku was holding Ai, and they were all in Bakugo's hospital room.
"Let him sleep, love," Izuku said, stroking her hair. Her smile faltered, but she held her head up.
Bakugo had been been asleep for two days since the encounter with Kaminari, and Zoë was in the bed next to him, resting off the poison that had coated Toga's knife.
"This is the second time in five months that you've been in the ER, Zo," Izuku sighed. "I can't keep seeing you get hurt."
        Zoë nodded solemnly.
My parents are the two strongest heroes Japan has ever heard of, and I can't even keep myself out of a hospital for half a year. What is wrong with me?
By then, Recovery Girl has entered the room- she was taking special care of the Bakugo family.
"Izuku, dear, I do hope you weren't getting on Miss Zoe's case about frequently being in the hospital," she said. Izuku tensed up.
        "Uh, I wasn't...Uh..."
Recovery Girl went over to take Zoe's vitals, and she chuckled. "Child, your father was in my clinic at least five times a week with broken bones from training recklessly with All Might when he was your age."
"But she didn't break a bone!" Izuku shouted, gesturing to his daughter, who's leg was wrapped up in gauze. "She literally got STABBED. That is VERY DIFFERENT."
Before the woman had time to answer, a groan was heard from the blonde on the other bed. Zoe's eyes jumped open, and she leaped off of her bed, scrambling over to her father, seemingly forgetting about her own injury.
"DADDY!" She cried. Recovery Girl held her back.
"Hush child. Katsuki, how are you feeling?"
"How long..." His voice was scratchy. "How long was I out?" He asked, sitting up slowly, hand on his head.
"Almost three days," Recovery Girl said.
        "T-Three days?!"
Dammit, what kind of a father am I?! The whole point of that was to understand that I need to ALWAYS be by their side- I need to keep them SAFE. Way to go, Katsuki!
"You should be very thankful," Recovery Girl lectured. "It could have been weeks, or even months."
"M-Months?" Bakugo stuttered. Recovery Girl nodded. A new voice broke the silence.
"Hey Kacchan," Izuku said, smiled softly. Katsuki's face broke into a grin when he saw his husband.
"IZUKU!" They embraced each other, after passing Ai to Zoë, who was busy fawning over her little brother. They shared a deep kiss, and Izuku started crying.
Katsuki wiped away his tears, shushing him.
"Come on, 'Zuku, don't cry. I'm back, okay? I'm back, and I'm not going anywhere."
"Recovery Girl? Would you mind giving us some space? Oh, and would you send my dad in?" Izuku asked politely.
She nodded, and ushered All Might into the room, and closed the door behind her. Bakugo waved weakly to Toshinori, and it was as if the weight of the world had been lifted off of the skinny blonde's shoulders.
"Dad, Kat, Zoë..." Izuku trailed off. "I have something I need to talk to you about."
"What's up, Papa?" Zoë asked. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?!"
"No, no, I'm fine," Izuku chuckled. "It's just...I think I might pause my Hero career for a little while. Focus on you and Ai, and I'm really being there for you."
"HUH?!" Zoë shouted. "But...But you're the number one hero! You've worked your whole like for this! It's because I'm so weak, isn't it?! I'll get stronger, I promise!"
By then, she was in tears, and all three adults, who had talked about this prior, shared a sad smile.
"Zoë, you are the strongest person I know. Yes, I have worked hard to be a hero, but after marrying your father and having you and Ai...I'm not sure that's what I really want any more." He glanced over at All Might, and bowed in apology. "You've done so much for me, Dad. I sincerely apologize for putting your Quirk to waste."
          All Might just smiled.
"Oh, please. Izuku, One For All is no longer MY Quirk- it's yours. YOU get to decide what to do with it. You know I will support you every step of the way. I'm proud of you, son. I really am."
"Thank you," Izuku responded, bowing once again. "Just, what good is it realizing a dream when I have something so much more important to dedicate my life to? And you know, it's not like Japan's going to suffer." He nodded his head towards a grinning Katsuki.
"Finally, after ALL these years, I'm gonna surpass your, Shitty Nerd!" Bakugo boasted. "You're looking at Japan's new Number One Hero!" Zoë smiled despite herself.
"And...you're sure? You're sure this is really what you want, Papa?"
Izuku kisses her on the head.
"I've never wanted anything more in my life."
It was clear how hard Zoë was trying to hide her grin. Truth be told, she somewhat resented the fact that her parents were both Pro Heroes. They had very little time for her, even if they did try their best. Getting her father home meant more to her than anyone could have predicted.

"Ground Zero! Pro Hero Ground Zero! Can you explain to us in your own words why your husband is quoting his hero career?"
"Deku! Deku, what brought on this change so suddenly?"
"Miss Zoë! Miss Zoë! Are you mad at your parents for not considering your opinion on this change?"
It was rare for Zoë to get mad, but all of the reporters surrounding her and posting fake articles about her fathers made her furious. However, Izuku has warned her prior to the conference on live TV that she shouldn't say anything negative to the press. He also warned her that Bakugo didn't live by that rule, and it was kind of his thing, so no one really cared when he did it- they expected it, in fact.
They eventually took their seats at the news studio, along with some of their family members and other Pros.
"Alright everyone, welcome to Japan 5! Today, we're covering the biggest story in years- Number One Hero Deku is retiring at only 31 years old!"
The reporter paused to give the crowd watching live a chance to react.
"Here with me today, we have Izuku Bakugo himself, his husband Katsuki, and his daughter Zoe, as well as pro heroes Red Riot, Uravity, and Ingenium, as well as All Might, who will all give their take! And, ACTION!"

AN: Guys, I'm so sorry this update took so long! I FINALLY finished up midterms at my school, and I did fairly well, except for math- - 60% is passing, and I got a 59%...so yeah. I've been only SLIGHTLY pissed off. Anyways, I hope you don't mind the decision that Izuku is making from here on out- I like to think this shows how much he's grown as a person- to accept things as they come and to follow his heart. I didn't mention it in the chapter, but he does know that the reason Zoë had been hurt and targeted over and over again was his fault, and that was another factor that he would never admit to anyone other than Toshinori or Katsuki. Today's bonus illustration is Zoë and All Might- I've never drawn him before, so I hope it's okay!! I'll try to do art before every chapter now that I have my iPad! I love you guys, bye!!
