When starting from scratch read the whole recipe before you start to do anything; beginning to end, just read the whole recipe including any recipe notes that there might be. It will not only prepare you mentally for everything you need to do, but you will also notice if you need to do any last minute shopping.

-Story Time:

This has happened to us before so many times. 

We always try out new recipes at home before we introduce it at the bakery.

-This one time we were trying out a new cupcake recipe and when we were taking out the materials and the ingredients that we would need we realized that we were out of eggs.

-Then another time we were making the White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake and we realized that we didn't have enough raspberries.

Well you get the point ;)

~When it Doesn't Look Like the Magazines:

We know that when people see dessert recipes in magazines and the photos look perfect, it is easy to get frustrated when your version doesn't turn out exactly the same. Don't let that get you down. Even if you don't have the exact tools or ingredients in the recipes, just remember it's supposed to be fun. Enjoy cooking and don't put so much pressure on yourself in the kitchen.

Don't forget to have fun! Baking is suppose to be fun.
