Tugche's Secret
Scenario: Ada is stil in Istanbul, and is working in the company as the courier. This is after Bora took Tugche for dinner. Ada has no gotten the divorce yet.
Third Person's POV
"Bora, i can't stand this girl in the office." Tugche stormed into Bora's office, sitting down on the sofa like she owned the room.
"Tugche, i am working right now. What happened?" Bora sighed, closing the laptop lightly, and grabbing his fidget spinner.
"How long is she going to stay here? Just fire her again" Tugche crossed her arms, and that simple action irritated Bora to the core. She could not just walk in his room and order him around.
"Tugche, can you tell me what she did now?" This was getting on his nerves.
"Bora, does she have to do something to be fired? She lied to you, she betrayed you-"
"I would appreciate it if you would stop bringing this in every argument." Bora held finality in his voice, but that did not stop Tugche.
"You said that she paid the price for it, didn't you? Then what about now? She is back in the company, she didn't loose the job." Tugche argued. The more Ada stayed, the more it frustrated Tugche. She had thought that after revealing the truth, Bora would have removed Ada from his life forever, that finally she would be the one with Bora's attention and love.
Yesterday, Ada had ruined everything for her. She had been so excited to have dinner alone with Bora. It was supposed to be special, in a top class restaurant, a seat by the window with curtains hiding them away from the rest of the people, and tasting exquisite dishes, talking over a glass of the finest wine. But Bora took her to a cheap street stall. She knew, from the moment they sat in the car, that Bora was doing all this for Ada, to test her, to test her love for him.
But what about Tugche? What about her love? Her patience? Her support? Was she just a thing to use and throw for Bora?
"As an office courier, Tugche. She is working a job that involves carrying files. She could have had many high positions in other companies, but she agreed to do this. Now if you don't have anything else to say, please let me work." Bora was tired of hearing the same thing over and over. Yes Ada lied to him, yes she betrayed him, but so did Tugche. This was why she had absolutely no right to point fingers at his Ada.
"No, i don't have anything else to say to you, Bora." Tugche got up, and walked to his desk. "I am done talking. Because this time, i will do what i want." Tugche was fed up of going in circles, it was about time she made some decisions on her own. She turned around and walked out with even more anger blinding her eyes.
"Tughce?" Bora got up from his chair. While her action did surprise him, his urge to stop her before she harmed Ada, compelled him to rush after her. He stopped when he saw Tugche gathering Ada's stuff in the cafe bar, where Ada kept it now.
"Tugche what are you doing?" He tried to take Ada's purse from her, but she snatched it away.
"Ada, ADA" Tugche shouted on top of her lungs, silencing the entire office, the echo of it bouncing between the walls of the building, till every ear had been stunned with it, till every person had been reminded the authority of Tugche Dickman.
"Tugche hanim, tugche hanim." Ada came in running from the ground floor, where she had been collecting some files. "What are you doing?" She panted, trying to reach out for her bag.
"Take this" Tugche threw all her belonging on the floor beside Ada, staring disgustingly at the person in front of her. "Take this and GET OUT. Get out of this company, YOU ARE FIRED." Tugche yelled, her one hand pointing accusingly at Ada, the other curled up in a fist.
No one had ever seen her like this. Yes she was mean, yes she was cold, but never like this.
"Tugche, you cannot do that." Bora spoke up after a momentary silence in the room. What was happening? He knew that Tugche was angry, but he never once imagined her to do something like this.
"Why Bora?" Tugche turned to look at him, her voice still loud and intwined with anger. "Am i not your partner? Do i not own shares of the company? Then WHY?" This time her voice became a pitch too high, indicating her loosened grip on her emotions.
"Tugche hanim, you cannot fire me." Ada spoke for the first time since arriving, having recollected her stuff. "I- i am not even a writer in the company. How- why would you fire me?" Ada could not make any sense of what was happening, for she was baffled Tugche's actions too.
"Your presence, just you being here is enough to make me angry Ada. Get out." Tugche glared at her, before yanking her hand and trying to drag her out herself.
"Tugche hanim" Ada warned her, pulling her hand back and glaring at her boss.
"Look, in my office. Right now. We will sort this out there, hadi, not in front-." Bora sighed, attempting to pacify the situation enough to remove themselves from the eyes of all the office employees.
"No Bora." For the first time, Tugche refuted Bora like that. Bora's shock was evident on his face. But what he did not realise, was that his was no longer just about him.
No, this was about their 'girl power'.
This was about their team.
This was about Tugche's first real girl friend.
This was about their friendship.
And this was about their betrayals.
"This girl has gone too far, she did too wrong to me. You destroyed EVERYTHING." Tugche shrieked, stepping closer to Ada.
"Tugche hanim, you and I both know the truth, we both know what really happened, and we both know why it happened. Don't pretend." Ada laughed back, challenging Tugche with ever word.
"Evett. We both know. But now, everyone else will also know." Tugche smirked in victory. She had the trump card now. She was going to ruin Ada now.
Ryuzgyar, who had been watching everything unfold, straightened up in panic. No, she would not spill the secret, not in front of everyone else, not in front of Bora. His mind and heart were in turmoil. If Tugche told the truth, he would be fired, but Ada would have to stay away from Bora, and maybe, just maybe, he would finally be able to get back with her.
But his heart kept picturing Ada crying all day long, unable to sleep at night, and becoming lifeless after a while without Bora. His heart knew Ada would die everyday after that. What would happen next would be based entirely on this internal war, for Ryuzgyar did have the power to completely change the game.
Tugche seemed to have come back to her cold self as she turned around to face Bora with a huge smile on her face. "Adacin over here" Tugche rose her eyebrows at Ada, giving her one last chance to leave.
"Tugche" Ada stepped closer to her, her eyes begging her to not do this. She wanted to be the one who told Bora everything, she owed that to herself. Her voice held alarm, her heart beat fast in expectance of what she knew was going to come, and her eyes darted over to Bora, trying to analyse his reactions. She wanted him to look at her one last time before he heard the truth, before his eyes held betrayal, before he told her to leave him forever.
Beside pleading with Tugche, the only other option she had was quitting her job, and at that moment, she wanted to do just that. But she had given her word to Zafar amca, and going back on it was just not possible.
"Tugche don't do-"
"Tugche had posted that video."
Silence.
Stillness.
Ryuzgyar stood in front of Ada, shielding her from Tugche, protecting her like he had promised himself to. He faced Bora with a confident smirk on his face, his blue eyes holding the peace of the sea that contradicted with the chaos his words had caused. His turned his head slightly to glance at his love, smiling to her as if reassuring her that he is on her side, and that he will protect her.
"Evett." He addressed to the entire office. "Tugche asked, no payed Burhan to shoot the video. And then she posted it herself."
Ada could not believe what she had just heard. Tugche hanim had released the video? This is what Ryuzgyar had against her that made her do as he said. Ada suddenly remembered their conversation in her house. Tugche did not want to mend her relationship with Ryuzgyar, she wanted to make sure he didn't tell Bora the truth. But why? Didn't she love Bora?
Bora. Bora just stood there in shock, unable to comprehend what Ryuzgyar had just said. Tugche? No, it was not possible. He knew her since his childhood, why would she even think about doing this? It didn't make sense.
"Ryuzgyar, Tugche? Tugche released the video? i-what? Tugche?" Bora could barely make sense of what he was saying, his head was jumbled up with memories from his past, flashbacks of Tugche's reaction to the video, and Ryuzgyar's words that echoed in his head.
And Tugche, oh Tugche was staring wide eyed at Ryuzgyar. Her knees felt weak, and she stumbled back onto the bar of the cafe. Her chest felt tight, her mouth was dry, and her mind was completely blank. No thought came in her head, it was as if she could not sense anything, could not process anything. Had he really said that? No, they had, they had an agreement. An agreement that- an agreement that she was herself about to break. No, what HAD SHE DONE? She stared at Ryuzgyar with hurt, so so much hurt that he felt guilty for a moment, till he was reminded of what could have happened had he not interrupted.
"Tugche? What he is saying, is it- is it true?" Bora asked, looking between Tugche and Ryuzgyar. "Tugche, can you answer. What is he saying?" Bora urged, and she decided to test her luck this one time.
"Hayir Bora, Ryuzgyar how could you even-"
"There is no need to lie Tugche. You and I both know the truth. Now everyone knows it." Ryuzgyar shrugged like it was the most casual thing. Multiple gasps were heard in the room, but most were just unconvinced mummers.
"You don't believe me? Fine. Here is the picture of our dear editor in chief with Burhan the day after the video was released." Ryuzgyar immediately took out his phone, showing the picture of that day.
Bora could not believe his eyes. It was indeed Tugche sitting with Burhan. She had, his childhood friend had really stabbed him in the back like that.
"Tugche? Tugche what is this?" Bora couldn't help asking that stupid question, even though the answer was in from of him. He needed to hear it from her. "Tugche i need an answer." He shouted when she didn't respond.
But how could she? Tears were clogging her throat, her mind was filled with memories of their time together, and images of what would happen next, and her eyes were blurred with guilt. She could not even breathe properly.
"IS THIS TRUE TUGCHE?" Bora yelled, his anger rolling of in waves, making everyone back away in fear. Except Ada, who went closer to him.
When Tugche still didn't respond, Bora scoffed loudly. "Of course it it true." This situation made him realise just how foolish he had been, and he couldn't help but laugh at himself.
"How did i not realise?" He shook his head, muttering. "HOW DID I NOT REALISE THAT THE TRAITOR WAS NOT JUST IN MY COMPANY, BUT ALSO MY PARTNER." He shouted, making Tugche visibly flinch, not in fear, but in pain after hearing the disgust and hurt in his voice.
"Bora" Was the only thing she could say. She had hurt him. He was so angry at him. These were the only two thoughts running in her head.
"Get out Tugche" Bora hissed in anger, his barely audible voice sounding even more dangerous. "The partnership is over, i will buy back the shares, JUST GET OUT OF MY COMPANY." He continued. "And never, NEVER, show me your face again." With that, he stormed back to his office, without giving her a chance to say anything else.
Tugche just watched him walk away, till he left her sight, which is when her resolve broke. She held her head in her hands, the last five minutes finally sinking in. She had a head ache, her heart and chest were hurting, her throat was dry, eyes glossed with tears, breathes uneven and hands trembling in shock. WHAT HAD SHE DONE.
"Bora, Bora, Bora" Was all she could whisper, begging him to come back, but not being strong enough to call after him. When she realised that he was not coming back, her eyes searched the room for the culprit, and her eyes fell on him.
"Ryuzgyar" and just like that, her anger was back. "YOU" She screamed at the top of her lungs. "YOU DID THIS. YOU MADE HIM GO AWAY FROM ME. YOU-" She threw the nearest thing, which happened to be cup, and it hit the wall beside Ryuzgyar. Yes, she was that angry, she was going crazy. The one man she ran after her entire life, the one man who meant everything to her, the one man whose opinion was the most important to her, that man had told her to stay away from him, to never see him again. How was she going to live knowing that he hated her the most? That he was disgusted by her?
"Tugche, CALM DOWN." Ryuzgyar shouted, and pulled her closer to him. "Calm down. Come here, hadi." He whispered, and then dragged her to his office as quickly as he could.
"Ryuzgyar, YOU TOLD HIM. HOW COULD YOU??" Tugche moved away from him when they stopped. "DO YOU REALISE WHAT YOU JUST DID?" She shrieked and pushed him back, then clutched her hair tightly in her fist.
"No, no, this cannot be the end. There has to be a way out" She muttered with a voice mixed with tears and pain, walking up and down the room, while Ryuzgyar leaned against his table. "There has to be someway."
"Tugche Tugche, give up. There is nothing else you can do after-" Ryuzgyar straightened up, when she interrupted him.
"Belma teyze. BELMA TEYZE." Tugche shouted in realisation, and quickly took out her phone.
"Go ahead, call her. It won't help Tugche. Give up." Ryuzgyar commented, but was ignored, as Tugche connected with Belma.
"Belma teyze, Belma teyze, Bora-Bora he, he fired me. He ended-he ended the partnership." Tugche managed to choke out over her suppressed sobs. "Evett. Hadi" And with that, the call was over. She lowered the phone and took deep breaths to stop her tears. "It is going to be okay Tugche." She whispered.
"Nothing will be okay after this." Ryuzagyar whispered to himself.
Meanwhile, Ada had followed Bora to his office, and found him walking back and forth across the room in anger. When he saw her, he stopped for a minute. "Ada get out. Now is not the time."
Ada just shrugged in response, and sat down on the sofa in front of his table. " Have i ever listened to you before Bora bey?" She knew, that even though he was not saying it, he needed someone at that moment, for he was going crazy with his own thoughts.
And she was right. The past few minutes had felt like eternities to Bora, with all the memories of Tugche rushing back in his head. The Tugche, who had been there with him for all his tough times, the Tugche who had helped him with the company, the Tugche who had desperately wanted to become his company's partner, was the same Tugche who had betrayed him, and almost destroyed him completely. And how could he have not noticed? She was in front of his eyes 24/7, yet he could not point out any suspicious behaviour then. But now, every single second with her felt fake. He was drowning in his own thoughts, he needed to let it out to someone. To Ada. He sat down on his chair, and rested his forehead on his head.
"She first became Mina's friend, and that is how we two met." He started off, immediately catching Ada's attention. "Mina liked her at first, but they were never good friends. You could say that i was Tugche's first friend. When i started the company, she wanted to help me, and bought some shares with her father's money. Ali always told me that she liked me, but i never paid attention to it, to her." Bora sighed, leaning back on his chair in tiredness. "And now we are here." He let out a small bitter laugh, rubbing his forehead "I am so stupid. But what confuses me more, is that she said she always loved me. Then why? Why try to ruin my handwork?" Bora groaned. These thoughts, recollections, hurt his head.
"Because she loved you too much." Ada spoke.
"How can you love someone so much that you intentionally hurt them Ada, HOW?" Bora argued back.
"You can't" Ada smiled. "Ama Tugche loved you differently. She did this because she wanted you to love her back." She answered.
"Did not get it." Bora replied. "She hurt me, so that i would love her?"
"Bora bey, did you ever think it like this, that maybe Tugche hanim did this just so she could help you later? Bora bey, when people are desperate for love, they can go crazy. When people yearn for approval, of being worthy, they can cross all limits. Even go as far as to drown someone, just to play the hero and save them later.
Tugche hanim, she loved you so that you would love her back, so that you would pay attention to her, so that she would be worthy in someone's eyes. She wanted to have your approval all her life, so much so, that she made it her main objective of living. Imagine a person who lives her entire life just wanting to be worthy in some else's eyes." Ada let out a sad sigh, remembering the three years of her life that she spent like that.
"But i cannot forgive her Ada. Yes, i understand what made her do this, but how can i let this pass? I am still so angry at her, still feeling betrayed." Bora was getting more frustrated by the passing second.
"Emotions can only justify one's actions Bora bey, never excuse them. I didn't tell you this to make you forgive her. I told you this to make you forgive yourself." Ada walked around the desk, and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. "Bora bey, as far as i know you, you immediately blamed yourself for it since you could not figure out why Tugche did it, didn't you?" Bora only sighed in response, closing his eyes. Ada turned his chair around. "This is not your fault Bora bey. Tugche did this, for whatever reason, but this will never be your fault. Stop blaming yourself, stop being so harsh on yourself."
Bora took a deep breathe. She was right. Yes, it was all in front of his eyes all along, but he was not wrong to have not doubted Tugche, since she never gave him a reason to. And he could have never imagined how someone would break years of trust that easily. He nodded in agreement, and Ada reluctantly moved back to the sofa.
"Ada?" Bora called out after a minute of silence. "Huh?" Ada replied, broken from her trance. She was lost in thoughts of how much of a hypocrite she was, consoling Bora after Tugche hurt him, when she was herself going to hurt him.
"You are still hiding something from me." It was not a question, it was a statement. A statement that froze Ada, that rendered her speechless.
"Bora-" She was interrupted by the commotion outside, which was soon followed by Belma storming into the office.
"BORAAA" She shouted, anger evident in her voice. Bora immediately got up from his seat.
"What have you done son, what HAVE YOU DONE?" Belma exasperated. Zafar and Ali soon came in the room too, Tugche and Ryuzgyar entering subsequently after.
"Son, how could you fire Tugche? She is your PARTNER" A look of realisation crossed Bora's face, and he glared at Tugche for calling his mother there.
"Anne, why don't you ask her? Why don't you ask Tugche why i fired her?" Bora pointed in Tugche's direction, but was still unable to look at her.
"Bora i don't care what the reason was. You CANNOT fire her, do you hear me? Bora, son-"
"Anne SHE MADE THAT VIDEO IN THE RESTAURANT" Bora had had enough. "She almost destroyed me anne. Do you still want me to not fire her after that, huh? Do you?"
"What? What? No, that is not possible." Belma shook her head. Tugche, yes she was not the kindest soul, but she could not possibly do that to her son.
Ada decided to give them some privacy. This was a family discussion and standing there seemed intruding. But before she could move a step away, Bora stopped her.
"Do not take a single step out of this room, Ada. Don't. I can't deal with that as well right now." Bora was already going insane, and his mother added to that. Right now, he needed Ada to keep him sane, to stop him from falling down the edge of this lunacy.
However, this brought Belma's attention to Ada. "She, she must have done it son. She must have put the blame on Tugche."
"Anne for god's sake, STOP IT" Bora rubbed his forehead. "Ask Tugche, ask her."
"Tugche, canim, tell me you did not do it. Tugche, this girl threatened you, right? Don't be afraid, i am here. Tell me the truth." Belma pleaded, because in her heart, she knew that Ada was never capable of destroying someone like that. Tugche however..
"Evett Belma Teyze, i did it. Ama, i never wanted to hurt him, i just" Tugche sighed. She knew she had lost. Belma could not believe her ears. Again, she was setting her son up with someone who hurt him so much. She, she had failed time and again as a mother. In the panic, she was unable to breathe, and fainted, falling on the sofa. Zafar and Ali immediately rushed to her, though not before glaring at Tugche.
"I am sorry." And with that, she rushed out of the room, unable to face the people in the room. Or so they thought. Only Ryuzgyar saw that lone tear slip out of her eyes down her cheeks, and followed her out.
"Tugche, Tugche" He called after her, and slipped into her office just before she locked the door.
"It's over, ITS OVER" She burst out in sobs, falling one the floor. She leaned against the wall, her head held in her hand, unable to stop the tears. She pulled at her hair in frustration. What had she done? How could she have been so blinded by her anger, that she did not even think of the consequences. Her chest felt hollow, like her heart had been ripped out of it, like there was no reason for it to beat again. Her lungs were burning with lack of oxygen, but her cries were not stopping. Her entire body was in pain, she felt weak, like she could not move a muscle.
"Tugche, TUGCHE." Ryuzgyar grabbed her shoulder. "Listen to me. Hear my voice. Tugche, i need you to breathe." Ryuzgyar was also panicking, he had never seen her break down like this. "Take a breathe in, and then exhale." He tried his best to get her to calm down, and slowly, it worked.
"Uff, you scared me." He sighed in relief, and sat down beside her, handing her a bottle of water.
"What am i going to do now? I- i cant come back here. But Bora, and Ada, no. I have to do something. I will, i will tell bora about you and then-"
"He will not believe you Tugche." Ryuzgyar intervened.
"He will have to. I will- you will also tell him, you will say it." Tugche got up in a hurry, but was stopped.
"No i will not" Ryuzgyar had made a decision, and he would stick to it.
"Why? Ryuzgyar, after Bora knows, everything between him and Ada will be over. You can have Ada then, and oh, if you are worried about your job, i will get you another-"
Ryuzgyar grabbed her hand "Tugche i am not telling him anything."
"WHY?" Tugche screamed. "WHY Ryuzgyar why?"Her voice was high pitched, and tears were already streaming down her face. "You said we were on the same side? What happened? DO YOU NOT LOVE HER ANYMORE?"
"MY LOVE FOR HER IS NO LONGER SELFISH" Ryuzgyar yelled back.
"What? What does that even mean?" Tugche stopped yelling, but her anger had still not gone.
"Sit Tugche" Ryuzgyar motioned to the sofa, and they both sat down.
"Tugche, i will not tell patron anything because i know how much it will break Ada. And i love her too much to see her like that. I can no longer be selfish with her." He sighed.
"Ryuzgyar, you cannot give up on her like that. You know- you know she will e with another man, right? A man who she loves more than you." Tugche panicked.
"But at least she will be happy."
There was silence, both lost in thoughts.
"Tugche, i suggest you do the same with Bora."
"What? You know that is not possible." Tugche laughed.
"Tugche, you have to let him go. He is happy with Ada and-"
"I CANT RYUZGYAR" Tugche gave in, and when she looked up, her cheeks were wet with tears. "I can't let him go. He" She hiccupped, trying to speak properly. "I love him, i can't" Her voice was hoarse, from all the hours of crying and screaming.
"Tugche, if you love him, you will let him go. If you love him, you will let him be happy." He whispered to her.
"How, how can you watch Ada be happy with another man?" Tugche silenced her sobs to sniffles, but the wound was still as deep.
"I said my love was selfish, i never said it didn't hurt. And that is why" Ryuzgyar sighed in thought. "I will move away."
Both were once again lost in their thoughts. Too much had happened in the past hour, too much that none of them had anticipated.
"I will come with you." "What?"
"You are right. There is no point in being here. He is, he is happy. And i-" She cut herself off, unable to continue.
"I will come with you." her voice held finality, but more pain, for she did not want to leave. Yet she knew it was for the best.
All her life, Tugche had built a castle around herself. A castle that protected her from the reality, that gladdened her with figments of imagination bonded together in her own world. But today, that castle broke. Each wall fell hard on her, each brick crushed her soul. Each tower that fell mocked at her for being weak, for being stupid. It was not other people that hurt her, it was her own safety bubble that destroyed her. And the reason it hurt more, was because she had stayed too long under its protection, that she had created the walls too high, that she had kept all her dreams inside it. When it collapsed, it crushed all her hopes and dreams with it.
AN; Ps, the picture in the media is of me struggling while writing this....something that i never knew could happen, happened :(
