VI. Shine A Light (Reprise)

"Stupid child proof caps!" Isabel cried as she struggled with to open the bottle of pills she had in her bag.

From the mirror that stretched along the length of the sinks in front of her, Julchen and her classmates appeared, all smiling maliciously.

Julchen spoke first. "Awe look, Isabel's going to-"

"Whine, whine, whine all night!" The crowd sang with the albino.

Julchen leaned out of the mirror, causing Isabel to stumble backwards and fall, dropping the bottle of pills. "You don't deserve to live!"

"Why not kill yourself?"

Julchen picked up the bottle and shoved it into Isabel's hands. "Here, have a sedative!"

"Whine, whine, whine!"

Julchen bent down to her level. Her eyes were black. "Like there's no Santa Claus!"

"You're pathetic because you whine!" The voice of the class rang in Isabel's ears as tears streamed down her cheeks.

"You whine all night!" Julchen hissed, pushing Isabel onto her back.

"Whine!"

"Your ass if off the team!" Julchen shouted.

"Whine!"

"Go on and bitch and moan!"

"Whine!"

Julchen grabbed Isabel's face harshly. "You don't deserve to dream!"

"Whine!"

"You're gonna die alone!"

Isabel sat up, struggling with the cap. "Die alone," it finally opened, "die alone," she squeezed her eyes shut, her body shaking, "die alone," she poured the pills in her mouth, "die alone!"

Suddenly, the door to the bathroom flung open. "No! No no no no!" Shelby rushed forward, grabbing Isabel's arm and knocking both of them down. "Stop! Stop!"

Isabel looked at Shelby, her green eyes glimmering with tears as she muttered something incoherent.

"You're going to throw your life away to become some statistic in USA Today? That's like the most pathetic thing I could ever think of!" Shelby shouted, though anger was not the emotion that contorted her face.

Isabel said something that sounded a bit like asking about Francine and Jett and Alfred.

"If all your friends jumped off a bridge, young lady, would you?" Shelby scolded.

Isabel nodded as she sobbed.

Shelby grabbed Isabel's hand, working her best to lower her voice. "If you were happy every single day of your life, you wouldn't be human." She stated in a reassuring voice. "You'd be a game show host."

That seemed to click in Isabel's head, and she bent over and opened her mouth, allowing the pills to clatter onto the floor. "Thanks for coming after me." She said in a shaky voice.

"You're welcome." Shelby stated simply, sitting back as the crisis was neutralized.

Isabel's face contorted as she let out one last sob, throwing herself forward and wrapping her arms around Shelby. Shelby stiffened, then slowly returned the gesture.
