𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐲. somewhere, in a world so still

Maze felt her chest heave up and down with fear, as she looked around. She was sitting in the grass, at the front of the Salvatore Boarding School.... Except at second glance she noticed that it wasn't the school at all. She looked at it in surprise, as it looked like the Salvatore Boarding House years before it's renovations.

Maze's attention was instantly brought back to her panic, as her veins were still completely black. Her eyes blackened over again, before a scream ripped through her throat.

"Hey! Hey what is the matter with you?"

Mazikeen didn't even turn around to look at whomever had addressed her. The stranger placed their hands on Maze's shoulders, their hands turning red as the siphoned some of the dark magic.

Mazikeen felt her breathing begin to slow, as her eyes were back to their natural colour. She looked at the person who'd siphoned from her, as he looked at her in surprise, noticing how familiar her facial features were.

"Thank you." Maze finally spoke, when she could find the words. "You're a siphoner... just like me." She uttered, as the boy smugly smiled.

"Where the hell am I?" Mazikeen asked, looking around as the world seemed still. "You're in a 2018 Prison world. Welcome. We have a population of 6! Now 7, I guess." The boy managed to say, as Maze seemed more puzzled by his words.

"Who the hell are you?!" She asked, her eyes darting to the brunette boy. He glanced at her, noticing her familiar features again before he spoke, "I'm Azazel... Parker. You must be the infamous Mazikeen, my dear twin."

Maze let out a scoffed laugh, "Twin? I'm a twin?" She asked, not seeming to believe him. "Yep. Apparently our parents kept me on the down low... our Uncle probably would have killed one of us if he found out the truth."

Mazikeen raised an eyebrow, "What truth?" She asked, skeptically. "That we're the older twins... bound to merge at the ripe age of 21." Azazel explained, as Mazikeen's eyes widened. "Dad.. wouldn't kill one of us." She blurted, referring to Alaric.

"You mean... Uncle?" Azazel asked, as Mazikeen shrugged. "Technically he's been my Dad since I was a baby." She explained as the boy snorted. "Yeah, because he stole you from your real family after sending them to a prison world." He admitted, as Maze kept her eyes on her brother.

"But you... didn't know that?" Azazel asked, as Maze shook her head. "Dad— Ric... he told me that Kai left me behind." She confessed, as Azazel's expression softened as he looked at his sister with sympathy. "Sounds like Uncle Ric is a bit of a liar."

Mazikeen's breath hitched in her throat before she asked, "Our... parents. Are they still here too?" The brunette nodded, "Wanna meet them?" He asked, as Mazikeen suddenly felt her stomach flip with nerves. "Yeah... I mean... if they want to see me too." She decided.

A soft smile graced Azazel's features, "Mum and Dad have been praying for the day that they could see you again." He confessed, "Come on. I'll show you to them." Azazel declared.

"This place is so still." Maze stated, as herself and Azazel walked through the fresh green grass, as not an ounce of wind blew. "Yeah... it's as if time stopped. Pretty cool, right?" Azazel smiled. "It's pretty eery." Maze stated, before curiosity hit her.  "How long have you been in this prison world?" She asked. Azazel's expression slightly faltered before he answered, "For as long as I can remember." Mazikeen's face fell, as she felt anger well inside her, towards Alaric and Caroline for sending her immediate family away.

"You um... can call me Azzie, by the way." Azazel decided, as they approached the Boarding House. "Azzie? That sounds cool." Maikeen admitted before she flashed him a smile, "Call me Maze." She declared. Azazel smiled brightly, before they entered the Salvatore home.

It looked completely different to how Mazikeen knew it to be. She could remember running through the hallways of the home with Lizzie and Josie when they were young, well before it was renovated into a school.... But that felt like a lifetime ago.

"What's our family like, outside the prison world?" Azazel asked, as Maze turned to the brunette. "They're... great. Caroline is practically still my Mum. Alaric was great to me growing up but as I grew stronger, he started to change." She admitted, before thinking about the twins.

"Josie and I used to be close, but that's changed a lot since it was revealed that I'm a Parker... now it's like we're not even related." Maze admitted, reminiscing on the fonder memories she had with Josie, though it was evident the pair were very different.

"Lizzie is incredible... I still see her as my sister, and I don't think that will ever change." Maze said, as she smiled. "We butted heads a lot when we were young, but now we're thick as thieves. I really love her." The Parker girl admitted as Azazel smiled.

"Who the hell are you?" A voice hissed, as the twins heads snapped forward, as they saw a vampire standing before them. Mazikeen blinked in surprise, recognising the girl from her childhood. "Jade?" She blurted.

"You know her?" Azazel asked, as Mazikeen nodded. "Yeah... I had sex with her sister." The blonde suddenly blurted, as Jade revealed her vampire eyes. "You what?!" She snapped, glaring at the siphon. "I probably shouldn't have said that." Mazikeen blurted.

Jade went to charge at the duo, as they both evaded, before Azazel rushed forward and took hold of the vampire, siphoning from her. "Maze, help!" The boy insisted, but Maze shook her head. "Don't kill her!" She yelled out, rushing to save Jade from Azazel.

"She'll resurrect. She's bound to this world, we all are." The Parker boy declared, as Mazikeen hesitantly nodded before she helped to siphon Jade. Once the girl was unconscious, the pair fled.

After failing to find Grace and Kai in the Salvatore home, Azazel had another idea of where they could be. Maze followed along, as Azzie led her to the Old Mill.

It looked a bit different to how Mazikeen remembered it, as in the real world it had been renovated and cleaned up a bit.

Azazel looked to Maze, noticing a nervous smile on her face. He looked at her sympathetically before he nudged her, "They're gonna love you." He assured her, assuming that her mind was busily worrying about the first meeting with her parents since she was a baby.

Without further ado, Azazel led Mazikeen into the old mill, where he found his mother humming to a tune on her walkman, as she made mini pancakes on a small camping stove.

"Hey, Mum!" Azazel called out, as Grace spun around, taking off her headphones. "Hey sweetie, you're just in time for pancakes." She greeted her son, before her eyes landed on Mazikeen.

Mazikeen felt her heart almost jump out of her chest when her mother's eyes landed on her. The woman looked exactly like the one from her dream, back when she and the super squad were finding the dream demon.

"Mazikeen?" Grace asked, an unfamiliarity in her tone... as if the name coming off of her tongue felt foreign. Though she had thought about her daughter every single day, she didn't often say her name.

Maze gave a sad smile, "You're... my Mum." She replied, as it felt incredibly strange. Caroline was her mother, but Grace was also her mother... it was going to be a lot to get used to.

Tears filled Grace's eyes, before she rushed forward and threw her arms around the smaller girl. Mazikeen was taken back by force, but hugged the taller woman back.

"My baby girl came back to me..." Grace managed to choke out, not wanting to let go of Mazikeen, in worry she may never get the chance to hold her again.

"Mum... let Maze breathe!" Azazel huffed, as Grace reluctantly let go of Mazikeen. "Sorry, sorry." Grace quickly said, pulling away from Maze, though she still kept her arms loosely around her daughter.

"I knew you'd find us." Grace spoke softly, looking at Mazikeen with a relieved smile. Mazikeen smiled back, trying to blink away tears before she hugged Grace quickly, initiating it this time.

Azazel smiled at the pair, before he heard footsteps approaching them. "Honey, I'm home." A familiar voice called out.

Maze and Grace broke apart, as the pair both turned to the source of the voice. Maze's eyes widened, recognising the man standing there as Kai... her father. She'd also seen him in the same dream she'd seen Grace.

"Kai, our baby came home." Grace said, with an overjoyed smiled on her lips, before she reached up to wipe tears away from her eyes.

Kai's looked at Mazikeen, noticing that her features were a perfect combination of Grace and himself... resembling the daughter he'd lost, many years ago.

"Mazikeen." Malachai finally said, his lips curving up into a smile. Maze smiled back, more tears forming in her eyes, "Hi." She responded, not sure whether to call him Dad, or Kai.

Kai rushed forward before he embraced his daughter. Mazikeen hugged Kai back, still in shock that this was even happening. Only months ago she had learnt that she was a Parker, and never did she expect to meet them so soon.

A smile formed on Azazel's face, as he moved to stand beside his mother. Grace couldn't wipe the smile off of her face, watching Kai and Maze hug.

For the first time in over a decade, the Parker family felt whole again.
