Chapter 23: The Party

~ The day of Vince Neil's party ~

I stood out the front of my apartment building with my hands in my pockets and shuffled in my Converse shoes, waiting for Izzy to pick me up. It was the day; as in the day of the dreaded party. I was all cool with it a few days ago, but as the day came closer, my nerves started to play up massively, and I became quite anxious.

I would be going to a rock star's party, and I'd be surrounded by heaps of people I'd just read about in newspapers and magazines, with a new boyfriend, and having no idea about how out of hand the party would actually be.

I thought that I shouldn't dress up much so I decided to wear my tight, high waisted acid wash jeans, Converse sneakers, a white, thin tee-shirt and a cardigan folded in my arms, as well as a small black handbag.

The party was supposed to start at 5pm, and it was currently 4:45 and I was stressing too much.

Was Izzy late? Had he forgotten? Where was he? Was I ready too early and stressing too much - yes.

Of course I had spoken too soon, and straight away I heard the slight screech of tires squeak against the road; it was Izzy. I could see him beam as his eyes landed on me on the footpath, and he pulled up in front of me in his black 1965 refurbished Mustang. Izzy leaned over the passenger seat and wound down the window.

"You ready babe?"

I took my hands out of my pockets and ran them through my hair.

"Yeah I guess so." I mumbled.

Izzy smirked and opened the door for me. Just as I sunk down into the leather seat and closed the door, Izzy pressed his foot on the accelerator, scaring the shit out of me.

"God are we in that much of a hurry?" I said gripping onto the dashboard.

Izzy laughed.

"No I just want to get this thing over and done with as quickly as possible." He said as he slipped on his aviator sunglasses.

He had one arm out the window with a half burned cigarette in his hand, and he was wearing practically the same thing from a few days ago; a black ¾ length tight shirt with black skinny jeans and tattered sneakers. I must have been staring at him for too long, because he slowly turned and looked at me, and my face must have been a dead giveaway of emotions.

"Hey, you alright?" He said now slipping off his sunglasses getting a better look at me.

I looked away and stared out the window.

"Yep."

"I don't think you are." He said, placing a hand on my thigh.

I turned and looked at him.

"I'm freaking out!" I squeaked shooting my hands up in the air.

"Why?" He chuckled, turning back to look at the road.

"'Cause I'm going to this weird party with all these weird people I won't even know, and I'll be going with a new boyfriend."

He raised his eyebrows and laughed.

"Hey, calm down babe. Look I won't fucking leave your side you should know that. I probably won't even like 99% of the people there so we can leave after 10 minutes if you like." He paused. "You look fucking incredible so you probably won't even want to leave 'cause you'll want everyone to look at you." He continued, now looking back at me and giving me a wink.

I rolled my eyes.

"Whatever dude."

Izzy just laughed and slid his sunglasses back on and took one last drag of his cigarette before chucking out the window.

I had no idea where we were actually going and how long it would take to get there, so after a few minutes of silence, and just listening to the balmy wind circle around the car I started to talk.

"Hey, I don't know if you remember this that well, but do you remember that god awful first coffee meeting we had when you were high as fuck?"

He laughed awkwardly and rubbed his forehead.

"Yeah... vaguely. Why?"

"Well, just before you chucked me inside the coffee shop, after you spilled all my crap out of my bag, you kept staring at something behind me; something that you wouldn't let me look at. Remember that? It's just that's it's been stewing in my head for a while."

"Oh yeah, I think I remember. Yeah that was my... um ex-girlfriend. I didn't want her to see me, especially with another girl."

"Oh right." I said with some slight relief. Mystery solved.

"Why didn't you want her to see you with another girl?" I asked after a bit of silence.

He took a while to reply.

"'Cause ah, we had just broken up. Like two days before." He winced.

More silence, but I couldn't help myself but ask more about this obviously awkward topic for poor Izzy.

"What was her name?" I asked quietly.

"...Hazel." He said blankly.

Another mystery solved. That was the name that Axl mentioned the other day wasn't it; Hazel? So she was Izzy's ex... but why would Axl say "I know that isn't Hazel behind you" if they had broken up a while ago...?

My thoughts were interrupted when Izzy suddenly slowed down and said that we had arrived. Turns out that Mr Vince Neil from Mötley Crüe had bought this modern mansion in Malibu, and the driveway of the house was right on a highway with the busiest traffic. There were cars all parked along the long driveway with white balloons tied along it, acting like bunting.

"House looks great doesn't it?" Izzy asked sarcastically.

The house was pretty gruesome. It was too modern, harsh and ugly, and it didn't fit in with the coastal theme. The only nice thing about the house was that there was lot of space with the greenest grass. It looked very expensive; excessively expensive, and you could tell straight away, also with some dead giveaways such as a random swimming pool next to the house that looked onto the ocean.

There were people everywhere and I could feel my anxiety rising. Izzy managed to find a small posy to park and we got out.

"You ready?"

"No."

"Good... me either." He sighed as he slipped his sunglasses on top of his head.

Almost instantly a manly scream of Izzy's name crashed into our hearing. There heading straight for us was a half dressed Vince Neil with his arms wide open. He engulfed Izzy into a hug, and Izzy seemed very uncomfortable. It was quite amusing.

"Hey buddy! How you going? Oh god bro it's been ages!" Vince happily mumbled into Izzy's shoulder. "Come on in, bro- oh who do we have here?" Vince interrupted himself as his eyes landed on me.

I froze.

Izzy broke out of Vince's hug and came shuffling over to my side, and he wrapped an arm around my waist.

"This is," he paused slightly, "my girl, Melanie."

Vince suddenly beamed and ran over and hugged the both of us.

"Oh it's so lovely to meet you Melanie!"

Over Vince's head, I could see Izzy's face slightly and he raised his eyebrows at me.

"How come you've never told me about this yummy morsel before?" Vince grinned staring at me as he let go of us and we began to walk towards his house.

Just as Izzy was about to reply, no doubt awkwardly since his face seemed to look quite uncomfortable about Vince's question, a woman's voice entered all of our ears.

"Honey? We need more ice."

A tall woman with bleached blonde long hair and came strolling towards us, wearing a floral strapless singlet and a ripped, short denim skirt.

"Oh my god that's you isn't it, Izzy." She grinned as she flicked her long hair over her bare shoulder.

"Hello Sharise, nice to see you again." Izzy put on a small smile.

'Sharise' walked right up to Izzy and in one swift movement wrapped him in her slender and tanned arms, and kissed him on the cheek.

"Okay, I don't think we missed Izzy that much, Shar." Vince chuckled, his eyes flicking from this woman and Izzy rapidly.

"It's okay babe." The woman replied with a fake smile as she let go of Izzy.

As she turned around to walk with us towards the house, her cold eyes landed on me. She twisted back around to look at the two men, and looked at me again with a mean and unsure look.

"Who's this?" She half smiled as she jabbed her finger at me.

"Oh forgive me for being rude, love," Vince rushed around to my side, "Sharise - this is Melanie. Melanie - this is Sharise my lovely wife." Vince beamed.

Yeah, "lovely"...

"This is Izzy's girl, Shar."

"Oh." Sharise said glaring at me. "Nice to meet you." She said as she turned her head away from me and began walking ahead of us. She called out:

"Vince baby you need to get more ice okay?" And she scuttled in her high heels into the ugly mansion that she and Vince no doubt shared.

I had a feeling that this party wasn't going to be much fun already.
