Chapter 14. Visit
'You stay in the garage!'
Sideswipe rolled his eyes. 'Maybe I don't want to. It's boring,' he snapped. 'It's the garage or the base.' He strolled into the garage. I followed him and watched him sit down on his hood. 'You're going to behave, you hear me.' He childish repeated me and waved me off. I shut the door and walked over to the front door after hearing the door bell. 'Hey beautiful.' Nathan strode in. He pecked my lips. I closed the door behind me.
We settled on the couch. I was pretty sure Sideswipe was listening and using his internal scanners. 'How's that Autobot doing? Still bothering you?' I cleared my throat. 'He became my guardian.' He cocked a brow. 'Do you need one?' He muttered. 'Why don't we drop the subject? I don't like talking about it.' Nathan snorted. 'Because he's a total douchebag?! I know he's your best friend, even I don't understand why would want to keep him around and I need accept it, but seriously... haven't you ever considered dumping his ass?'
I shot him a glare. 'No! Of course not! Would you dump your best friend? Leave Sideswipe out of this,' I snapped. 'Right.' He rolled his hazel brown eyes. 'Look, I know he can be a little bit complicated it once you get to know him, he's a good friend.' All he did was hum. I sat back, trying to ignore it.
An hour into the movie, Sideswipe got obviously bored. I looked over my shoulder to see him stroll into the kitchen. Nathan turned too. 'What the hell are you doing here!' He snapped. 'Getting a snack. She banned me to the garage.' Sideswipe rolled his azure blue eyes. 'Didn't she tell you I'm her guardian? I don't think you quite understand what the words means. Perhaps you should Google it.' He grabbed some soda. 'Sideswipe... we talked about this.' He rolled his eyes again. 'I'm going... don't make it too late though. I really want to watch Homeland. It's on channel three at 11 PM.' He strolled back into the garage and slammed the door shut.
'You said he wouldn't be here!'
'I never said he wasn't. At least he's not threatening you anymore. This is improvement. Please, be a little patient. He'll come around, I promise.' I pushed Nathan back on the couch. Nathan slumped back on the cough and shook his head. 'Next time he won't be here,' he growled. I knew that was going to be hard. Sideswipe doesn't take orders from or anyone in general.
Around 10:30 Nathan left. 'Ugh, any idea how cold I am from being the garage? Not to mentioned the horrible garden chairs.' I crossed my arms. 'What? I didn't offend him, did I?' He gave me a look. 'You promised me something, Sideswipe.' He huffed and flopped down; grabbing the blanket I had used. 'I only promised you to not ruin whatever is going on between you and the human male. I kept my word, he hasn't run out yet,' he muttered. I sat down beside him. 'Right...' he rolled his eyes and pulled me closer. 'C'mere.' I leaned into him. 'Ugh, I have a boyfriend, Sideswipe.'
'Am I doing something wrong? I'm just using you as my personal heater and you owe me. I'm not asking you to undress,' he muttered. 'Now he quit, the show is going to start soon.'
I must have fallen asleep half way through the episode. I woke up from Sideswipe carrying me upstairs and laying me down on my bed. He grabbed my pj. He lifted my chin. 'Why are you so tired?' I shook my head. 'Just some nightmares... nothing special.' I got up and removed my shirt. I turned around and removed my bra before quickly pulling on my pj shirt. 'Why haven't you told me?'
'Because you told me I'm paranoid.' I turned around to face him again. He sucked in a breath. 'Right.' I removed my jeans quickly; pulling on my pj shorts. I tossed my clothes on my desk and brushed my teeth.
'I'll stay until you're asleep.' I glanced at him and nodded. Sideswipe spooned me. It was nice to have this close. It made me feel save. 'Could you lock the basement door when you go downstairs?' He nodded. 'Of course, try to sleep.' I closed my eyes and listened to his soft breathing behind me. 'You know I wouldn't dump you, right?' He hummed softly. 'I know.'
When I woke up that night from a nightmare, Sideswipe wasn't there anymore. I quickly switched on the lights and looked around the room. My heart was beating like crazy. There was only a storm raging outside but other than everything seemed fine. I slid out of bed and headed downstairs.
Sideswipe was recharging in the garage. Realizing he was here calmed me down a little bit. With shaking hands I grabbed a glass. 'Everything is fine... it's just in my head,' I whispered softly before opening the drawers where I kept my knives and started counting them.
'Katie? What are you doing?'
Sideswipe sounded a little sleepy. He looked over my shoulders. 'Are you counting your knives?' He closed the drawer. 'I wanted to make tea with honey, I needed a teaspoon.' He stepped back and opened the other drawer; grabbing one and held it up for me to take. My hands were shaking so much that I couldn't grab the spoon. He laid down on the countertop and softly forced me to sit down. 'You locked the basement door?' He nodded. 'Yes.'
He brushed some strands behind my ear. 'I can have a look in the basement if you'd like?' I nodded. Sideswipe got up and walked over to the basement door, unlocking it before he went in. He returned ten minutes later. 'It's all fine. No one there.' He locked the door and made me some tea. 'I have six knives... I only counted five.' He opened the drawer and held them up. 'I count six. No one is here, Katie. You're save and I'm here too. No one will hurt or attempt to kill you.'
He sat beside me and handed me the tea. He rubbed my back. 'I feel stupid,' I muttered. 'Nah, I used to be this paranoid too. My brother would do the same things for me. You have no idea how many times I woke him. When I was younger, it was nice to have a fearless brother. Sunstreaker is a psychopath, so he doesn't feel much obviously. People feared him and that made me feel save. I'm the twin brother of a war machine. Sunstreaker is not afraid or anything or anyone. He told me that if he finds anyone in our room he would chop that person up and use it to make a new artwork and he would.'
I smiled a little. 'How do you deal with it now?' He shrugged. 'I can feel him. He might not be here physically, but I can definitely feel him and sometimes I hear him talk to me.' I studied his face. 'Because you're a split spark twin.' He nodded. 'Must be nice.' He huffed. 'All siblings are annoying and Sunny isn't anything different.' I laughed at his statement. 'So, Skids and Mudflap are split sparks too?' Sideswipe shook his head. 'No, split sparks are rare. Jetfire and Jerstorm were split sparks.'
Sideswipe wrapped his arm around me. 'Don't worry sweetspark. You're going to be save. No one will hurt you.' I nodded slowly. I drank my tea and calmed down a little bit.
Sideswipe took me back upstairs and laid me down. 'I'll stay for a little while, okay?' I nodded slowly. 'Thank you.' He spooned me again. I grasped his hand and closed my eyes. I felt kiss the crook of my neck before I fell asleep.
