Prologue

Into the depths of the forest, it seemed that all of it was alive. Each tangling vine had its own movements. Every leaf had decided when it wanted to fall to the cold hard ground with its brethren. Then, as if by some blessing-or curse, every plant felt more powerful.

Then, as if by something unexplained, it stopped its own movements. Something was coming. Something that the forest felt was dangerous. Steps came upon the cold ground. As everything began to shrivel, the forest felt sick. Everything behind the being that entered was near death. Then there were more, and it as if every-step each one of them took left nothing but destruction. They were the hemlocks.

Then the forest felt steps once more. But these steps were different. These steps shared the same heartbeat the snakes did. A different being-almost opposite to the other stepped lightly and almost by some granted wish, the other side of the forest bloomed much brighter. These beings were everything that was good. They were the goldenrods.

A tall figure, who took the lead, looked at the goldenrods. "So? What is the cause of you sending a messenger to my side of the forest?" He asked.

"You murdered a human! That was not part of the agreement!" The female's retort was harsh, clear that she didn't hold back her anger.

The male narrowed his eyes. "Neither was stealing my child. She does not deserve you."

"And I suppose she rather be among your kind? Of darkness and torment?" She went on. A young female stood beside her father, staring uncomfortably while her eyes held an unreadable expression.

The male's hand formed into a fist. His eyes glowed eerily in the darkness like slitted moons. "Don't think you're better than any of us, Dahlia." He said.

A slim figure beside the queen rolled her eyes. "The Goldenrods are better."

"Silence Peony." Her queen ordered.

The queen, named Dahlia, stepped close to the girl standing beside the other male. "Has Maikoa been treating you right..." She asked glaring slightly up at Maikoa as she softened her eyes when looking back at the younger girl.

"Yes, I have been treating Nightshade right. She's our daughter. Of course I'll treat her right." He snarled back putting his arm inbeetween Dahlia and Nightshade.

"Father I can speak for myself.." She mumbled looking down at the ground. Her face saddened by the lack of love she felt from her broken family. But Nightshade knew that her parents didn't hear her. She tried to block out their bitter remarks towards each other.

After listening to her parents bicker on and on, she noticed that the rest of the Hemlocks were also arguing with the Goldenrods.

She took the chance of getting caught and weaved her way around everyone before she made it into some bushes. She turned her head back looking at everyone ramble on and argue.

Nightshade sighed and hurried off into the forest till she'd gone deep enough that no one could even make out her silhouette.

After that the Goldenrods and the Hemlocks fell into a deep depression. They continued to fight and argue about where Nightshade might've ran off to.

Flowers and plants alike started to wither away, the Goldenrods not having the strength anymore. The Hemlocks took this to their advantage even though they were also devistated about the young ladies disappearance.

They took over the island and it had become home to dead and evil flora.
