one; unfinished buisness
CHAPTER ONE
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
LUX DUNBAR WAS EASILY DESCRIBED as being over dramatic. She was a sweet soul but she was majorly needed to be cast a lead role in Shakespeare.
"This is the end." The brunette whispered as she sat down cross-legged on her bedroom floor. Her hands on her knees, her back straight as she stared intently at the fireplace in front of her watching as the pages crackle under the pressure of the heat gobbling them up as they crisp into nothing.
Lux's eyes snapped open as she heard a snicker coming from behind her. Her blue eyes met the brown eyes of her best friend who had tears down her cheeks but not for the reason Lux wanted.
"My life is officially over April." Lux seethes in frustration as she stands up from the ground, now standing in front of her laughing best friend although Lux would deny such thing as of now.
"Oh, now that's an exaggeration Lux," April replied, chuckling at the ridiculous state of her best friend.
Lux was burning her old school text considering she was moving and wouldn't need them anymore. It was a Prep School and owned their own textbooks so they were no longer useful in whatever hell she was going to.
"Exaggeration?" Lux exclaimed as she turned away from the other brunette."How are you not suffering through this with me, aren't you going to miss me."
April sighed as her facial expression soften, shuffling over to her best friend's bed who looked at the bridge of crying but April knew Lux wouldn't dare show that side of her even if they were friends.
"Of course, I'm going to miss you at Devenford Lux; I'm losing a best friend too." April stated before bursting back into laughter. "Although I was afraid you'll start mumbling in jibberish to the fire." Lux rolled her eyes.
"April."
"I'm sorry but there isn't anything else we can do."
Lux sighed knowing April was right. They tried everything to try and convince her mom and step-dad to stay so she could continue attending Devenford Prep, but they wouldn't have it they were practically brick walls when they made a decision.
It also reminded her of how none of this ridiculous moving thing was her fault but her selfish, obnoxious, cold-hearted, provoking and infuriating twin brother.
Liam.
"He did this. This all his fault." Lux suddenly snapped as she crossed her arms.
April looked at her confusedly. "Who Liam?"
"Yes Liam, of course, Liam! If he didn't demolish coaches car-."
"You know about his disorder Lux, you know better than anyone he couldn't control it." April admitted giving a disbelieving look at her best friend. April no doubt had a soft spot for Liam which Lux decided to ignore each time when April did so much as defend him or maybe because she use to be just like April defending her brother against another student in school who dared utter the word crazy to her brother. Then she realises he didn't care for her support and he threw it back in her face.
"He still demolished coach's car," Lux muttered, almost childishly now.
"And he paid for it." April defended once again, her brows furrowed as she wondered why Lux found every single information against her own brother. He was in a wreck as much as they were, he felt terrible knowing they were leaving because of him, it wasn't far but he still felt responsible which he was he was just glad that his stepfather found a job at another hospital.
April scoffed as she watched Lux avoid eye contact with her. "Come on Lux you know better."
Lux shook her head." You know what, I don't. And I'm sick and tired of him using that as an excuse." The young Dunbar stood from her bed, seething as she stomped over to her door and swung the door open with such force April was surprised that door hadn't left its hinges.
Lux trudged down the steps followed by April who reluctantly stood from her place. She knew what was going to happen it always did every time Lux was sure she wouldn't survive in this new school.
"Mom," Lux yelled through the house as she entered the kitchen.
"Lux sweetheart, what is it? Is something wrong?" A voice rang through owned by Lux's mother who appeared in the kitchen looking at her distressed daughter in worry.
"Everything!"
"As wrong as dobby dying?"
Lux's eyes widen. "Worse," She whispered as Miss Dunbar shook her head in disbelief. Her daughter was way too dramatic for her own good.
"L-."
"No Mom. I cannot attend Beacon hills high that place is full of crazy people." Lux vowed, dramatically widening her eyes.
"Sounds like your kind of place." Lux's head snapped at the sound of her brother's voice, her eyes turning to slits from the presence of him.
"And you know what would suit you, Eichen House." Lux snapped back at her brother who narrowed his eyes in anger.
"Lux." Miss Dunbar exclaimed astonished. "You do not talk to your like brother that."
"Seriously, he's literally ruining my life and that's all you have to say."
"Ruining your life? Liam scoffed. "All you care about is Talbot and how he made you stay relevant at Devenford."
"Shut up." Lux snapped.
Miss Dunbar sighed as she massaged her temples, having to hear the same conversation from the two over and over again. "Look we are not changing our minds we are moving Lux. I know it's going to be hard moving to a new school but think about it as something positive, it's a fresh new start and not just at a new place with your family as well."
"Lux sighed in defeat, sinking back into her seat. "Why do I even bother trying anyways. I guess it's true though if I do stay, teachers will probably begin to hate me and the whole student body because of an imbecile that is my brother." Lux muttered earning a glare from Liam.
"Paying the price of being a Dunbar." They both mumbled in unison although they held different meaning between them.
Liam and their mother soon left leaving April and Lux who had forgot that her best friend was still there for some type of moral support she failed at.
"April," Lux called out, snapping the brunette's hard concentration from her phone to her.
"Who are you texting?"
April gulped as she shoved her phone into her pocket. "No one," She replied meekly, biting her lip which only left her more suspicious to Lux who was observant to the fact.
"Look." April started as she navigated her way towards the youngest Dunbar. "Since Liam made some friends over the break from Beacon Hills and you didn't-"
"Is this suppose to help me?"
"Let me finish, I know a few a people who go there." The blonde admitted.
"Oh yeah, who." Actually seeming interested as far as Lux knew, she was the blonde's only friend as she was hers.
"Uh Garret and Violet," April replied quickly.
"How do you know them?" Lux questioned her curiously hoping to gain some answers to who she had been texting through the conflict with her brother and mother. April was like family it wouldn't have been awkward for her to say anything so it was odd she didn't she always used to.
"From the orphanage, you'll love them. They're really something." April muttered almost unsure of her words. She gazed off before she realised she hadn't finished. "And they are kind of together so watch out for that," April added knowing Lux would go out with any guy she had her hands on which wasn't anything bad just her intentions behind it.
"As in couple," Lux complained. "That's just perfect why don't you just buy me a wheelbarrow since I'll be third wheeling so hard" She admitted sarcastically which she always did as a reflex to her especially with the fact it drove Liam mad.
"I said kind of, it's complicated but you'll like them they are nice." April shrugged as she looked back at her phone and Lux was tempted to rip it off her.
Lux sighed as she looks at the anxious blonde. "Why not what's the worst that could happen." She forced a smile.✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦
