Chapter 22.
I'm gonna call this an evolution, I'm going to tell the same scene in three different POVs.
Enjoy.
• Dylan's POV•
"Hey, mom! What's for breakfast?" I asked as I walked down the stairs in a big black shirt and blue jeans, my face glued to my phone.
"Cottage cheese and Blueberry parfait." She answered as I landed from the stairs. "I'm not sure I heard you say good morning."
"Good morning, mommy." I smiled as I approached the table, still texting Isabelle about Christian. I didn't wanna tell my friends yet, I didn't think I should because I dont even understand what happened.
It has been a week since Christian and I had kissed, like full on made out in the middle of the fucking empty street last night, and he had walked me back home after that. It was supposed to be awkward, right? But he didn't let it. We still said hi to each other and talked at school everyday we would see ourselves. We haven't kissed again after that day, and honestly, none of us have mentioned it. We just......went on with our lives.
"How was your night?" Mom asked and my eyes widen.
"Yeah. Thank you so much" I heard dad say as he walked down the stairs. I didn't even look up like mom and Jax did.
Dad sighed. "Just got off the phone with the judge."
This time I turned, he was putting on a black suit.
"What'd they say?" Mom asked.
"About Vaughn."
I swallowed. Jaxton stopped what he was doing immediately as his brows flew up.
"What'd they say?" He asked, softly.
"Well, you know how his trial was yesterday?" Dad said and we all nodded. Yesterday was Vaughn's trail and we had all gone to court. We had to. Jaxton had spoken in court, giving his testimony and I had also spoken as well, as with a broken arm, I cursed at Vaughn who was seated across me. His presence scared Jaxton and honestly, it gave me a tiny bit of a fright. Because the second I laid my eyes on him, I remembered him pointing a gun at me.
His lawyer had tried to get him to serve four years, but the court gave him ten years, and that didn't seem like it was enough to me, but it was better than the four years his lawyer pleaded for.
"I tried to explain to him on how a twenty six year old man was seeing a kid which is pedophilia, and how he broke into Jaxton's home like the obsessed freak he is and fought two teenagers, injuring them badly. He said, he heard all about it in court and I asked for more years because he deserved it, but he's only getting ten years."
"I wish there was more we could do, I'm sorry." Dad said to Jaxton, who shook his head.
"In ten years, I'd have figured out my life. So, that should be okay. You both have done enough for me. Thank you."
"Of course, anytime." Mom said and kissed his head.
"You are family now, Jaxton. Your problem is our problem." Dad said. Jaxton walked over to him and gave him a tight hug.
"Thank you, Mr. Dexwell."
Dad looked astounded, he just stood still, before embracing him back. "You're welcome, kid."
That would have been him. That would have been the boy I lost years ago. I was choking from the memories and the tears forcing to spill out. Mom looked at me and her smile slowly faded.
"Dylan," mom softly called.
"Excuse me" I said in a tone as low as a whisper. I stood up from the table and walked away, heading up the stairs and to my room.
"Dylan!" I heard mom call, but I ignored.
I rushed up the stairs and into my room and to the bathroom. Locking the door behind me, I rested my back against it. The tears fell as I cried silently, wiping them as they fell.
"Dylan?" Mom called softly, and knocked on the door. "Sweetie, are you okay?"
I wiped off my tears quickly and cleared my throat. "Yeah. I'm-im fine. I'm coming." I answered. I sniffed and turned on the tap for a couple seconds before putting it off. I opened the door and smiled at my worried looking mom.
"What's wrong?" I asked her faking a smile.
"Dylan,"
"Yeah?"
"Is this about—"
"Mother, i have got to go now or I'll be late." I smiled. "I'll pack the breakfast and...make it lunch instead." I grinned sheepishly, and walked out of my room , hoping to end the conversation. I knew where she was getting at and I didn't want to answer any of her questions.
I could feel her follow me and when we got down. Jax and Dad both had a worried expression on their faces.
"Hey, are you okay?" Jaxton asked walking over to me.
I nodded and smiled. "Yeah. Stupid stomach ache, that's all. Are you ready to leave?"
"But we haven't had break—"
Mom walked over to the dining and helped me pack our breakfasts up.
"It's okay, Jaxton. You'll just have them for lunch." She said as she returned with them. "Um, you both uh, hurry off to school so you won't be late." She handed us our lunch and pulled me in for a hug.
"Call me if you need me." She whispered.
I just smiled and gave her a nod. "Yeah, bye."
"I'll drop you" Dad said and picked up his briefcase.
"We'll walk" I said as I headed for the door.
"But I can drop you. It's just gonna take what? Ten minutes?"
"I said it's fine. We will walk."
"But it wouldn't be much of a bother, I promise. I just—"
"I said NO!" I cut him off, turning to him. "JUST BECAUSE YOU DID ONE GOOD THING IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE DOESN'T MEAN EVERYTHING IS OKAY. DO YOU UNDERSTAND? I STILL HATE YOU AND I DO NOT NEED ANY HELP FROM YOU AT ALL! NONE." I yelled angrily. The room was silent. "You can't come acting like a good father when we both know you're far from that Mr. Dexwell"
"What do you want me to do Dylan? I have tried to make up for things. For fuck sake its been eight years. Tell me what you want me to do and I'll do it" He said looking frustrated and a little sad.
"BRING HIM HOME!!" I yelled angrily as my eyes began to water. He swallowed and seemed frozen where he stood. I huffed, "you can't, can you?" I shook my head at him. "We'll walk" I said and walked out the door.
"Dylan," Jaxton called softly as he ran to catch up with me. "Hey. Are you okay? You want to talk about it?"
"Jaxton, it's fine."
"That wasn't nothing, Dylan. What's—"
"Drop it." I said as I turned to him. "Okay? Drop it."
Jaxton gulped, saying nothing in return. I turned and continued my journey to school.

I was in class, I wasn't concentrating on whatever Mr. Rowen was saying, my mind was elsewhere. I had gone back to eight years ago, when everything was okay, when everything was perfect.
"Mr. Dylan!"
The way he called out my name, startled me. I looked up at Mr. Rowen whose brows were furrowed at me. I looked around and saw everyone was staring at me even Henry.
Well, I guess this wasn't the first time he had called my name since they were all looking at me.
"Um," I sat upright and tucked my hair behind my ear. "Sorry, I-I didn't..."
"Don't worry. I'll repeat the question. The third time." He said and half of the class giggled. "What year did George Washington become president?" He asked arching his brow as he leaned on his desk and folded his arms.
"I uh...it's um, er..I don't.. I don't know" I stuttered and faked a smile.
"You don't know?" He seemed surprised to hear this "T-That's unlike you." He said with a slight chuckle.
"What do you know about me to know what's unlike me?" I retorted and his brows flew up.
Mr. Rowen gave a small nod. "Okaaaay. Uh, It was the year 1789, and that man was the first president."
"Okay. " I replied and looked away.
Mr. Rowen continued teaching and I blacked out again, even when I was looking at him, I could only see his lips move but I just shut out everything. I was hurting real bad and I felt like I was being strangled, like I couldn't breathe. I tried making the tears stay in, but they wouldn't and they soon began to fall out. I quickly wiped them off, hoping no one noticed and faked a smile.
Class was over and I was the first to exit the class. I began to walk out but then I felt someone walking beside me, I looked and there stood the last person I wanted to see.
Henry.
"What do you want?" I asked as I walked.
"I just wanted to know if you were okay."
"I'm fine."
"Are you sur-"
"What do you care?" I turned to him. "Is this your fucking joker cycle of wanting to be the savior again?"
"No? I'm just really worried and—"
"Fuck off, Henry. Seriously."
I turned to go and he grabbed my arm, stopping me. I looked down at his hand and at him.
"Something's wrong with you today, Dexwell. And it's not your usual Eric is pissing me off kind of anger, it's a different one. What is it?"
I jerked my hand off his. "It's none of your business, Ashcroft. Mind the one that pays you." I said and walked away.

I was at the library, reading a stupid book. I have never been to the library since I came to Eastwood. The library was super huge, it had an upstairs which was where I was, it had so many books, it was like the Librarian series. There were a lot of students here, I could categorize them, those who had no friends, some who thought they didn't belong, some who were mad for no reason, some who needed space and a quiet place to read or do their homework and some who wanted to get away from the world for a while which was where I stood. There are many things I really haven't done here in Eastwood high, how come I never came to the library or even saw it. It was cool and really quiet. It was lunch time and here I was just being away from everything and everyone. I didn't want to speak to anyone and this was the best place to stay.
"Dylan." A voice so familiar called.
Jaxton.
I rolled my eyes, sighing before I looked ahead and saw him and Raven approaching me.
"Of course they found me." I muttered.
"I told you he was here." Raven said before sitting beside me. "What's up? I haven't seen you all day. Are you ghosting me?"
"I'm fine, I just have to read." I smiled and closed the book in front of me.
"That's not an excuse." She shook her head.
"How did you even find me? As far as I know, I've never been here for you to check like I'm a regular."
"I have my spies." Raven shrugged. "We couldn't find you, you weren't even at lunch, and that's saying something because you like food. And so, I sent my spies to look for you" Raven beamed.
"You have spies?" I cocked my brow at her, curiously.
"Spies equals to cheerios" Jaxton said with a bored look.
"And in less than five minutes, two responded. They found you here." She said and waved at someone with her fingers, I looked at who she was waving at and saw a cheerleader standing close to a shelf with a smile, waving back.
"Of course." I sighed and stood up. "Anyways, I was just leaving. " I said and started walking down and headed for the stairs.
"Dylan." Raven called and I turned.
"What?"
"What's wrong with you? You're not yourself today. What happened? Jaxton as well can't really tell. And you are not your cheerful self today, you're giving me more possessed vibes. Did something happen this morning?"
"Nothing happened."
"Are you on your thirteenth reason?"
I rolled my eyes. "Raven, please."
"Shh!" A girl said, grabbing all our attentions. She glared at us, some books in her hands before walking away.
"I'm sorry do you have a problem with me?" Raven asked her as she walked past her. "Yeah, I thought so. Bitch."
"Look, it's nothing guys. Let's just say I'm on my period, I need my space, okay?." I shrugged. "It's nothing" I said and turned to go.
"If it isn't nothing, you wouldn't need space from us." Raven said.
"It's about Isaac, isn't it?" Jaxton asked and I stopped in my tracks.
Suddenly, the ringing happened again in my head.
I turned back at them, looking at him, shocked that he had mentioned that name. How did he—
"How do you know that name?"
"It's about him, isn't it?"
"Answer me, Jaxton." I furrowed my brows at him.
"Just tell us what is wrong, Dylan. We are your friends and we want to help, and be there for you. What happened to you eight years ago?"
I choked on my tears and quickly wiped them off. "It is not your concern."
"If you don't talk about it, will you really heal?"
"Oh, fuck off, Olson."
"Why do you hate your father? What did he do? Who exactly is Isaac? Who is he to you?" He kept asking and I tried my best to stay calm, he wouldn't stop and I felt like I was gonna explode.
"I just want to look out for you."
"Looking out for me would be you fucking minding your business and not questioning me like a detective who didn't graduate highschool!"
"Jaxton, maybe you shouldn't ask." Raven said.
"Why are you hurting so much?" Jaxton asked softly, and I stopped in my tracks. "I know you are hurting so much from what happened eight years ago and I know that I-I shouldn't meddle in your business, but sometimes, it's okay to talk about it. What did your father do that made you hate him so much?"
"HE KILLED ISAAC" I shouted, the tears kept falling, I didn't even care about the people who were staring now. "HE KILLED MY BABY BROTHER AND I CAN NEVER FORGIVE HIM FOR THAT. NEVER. YOU WANTED TO KNOW RIGHT? HUH? YOU THINK HE'S A GOOD GUY AND THAT HE'S A GREAT FATHER BUT I DON'T HAVE A BROTHER BECAUSE OF HIM AND AS LONG AS I LIVE...I WILL CONTINUE TO DESPISE HIM. Now you know" I said and wiped off my tears, my eyes were red with anger and disgust for my father. Jaxton and Raven thunderstruck by what I had said, both their expressions gave that out.
"Shush" The Liberian did that again and I faced her.
"Oh shut the fuck up. Do not let me come over there or I'll rip you to shreds" I yelled at her, her eyes widen as she staggered backwards.
"Dy-"
"No" I interrupted Raven from saying anything else. "Its fine" I said and wiped off my tears, I turned and walked away, I was about to walk down the stairs when I saw Eric downstairs with a smirk on his face, I wasn't ready for his rubbish, he gave me a thumbs up and I wondered what it was for. I frowned and ignored him and as I took a step down the stairs, I felt hands at my back, push me with force. A gasp escaped my mouth as I knew what was about to happen. I tried to catch my balance, reaching for the stair's banister but I couldn't, I stumbled down the stairs, a sharp pain echoed through my entire body, Raven and Jaxton's screams turned to a deep echo as I fell. It was like the world was circling around me, I struggled to catch my breath. I was paralyzed with shock and that sudden rush of adrenaline as I let myself fall until I hit the ground, my entire body seemed to fall on that same bandaged arm, I felt that it had surly been snapped in half. I felt as though my life had flashed before my eyes as I cried out in pain.
"DYL" A voice shouted, everything was turning into a blur and my arm was hurting so bad. "Hey"he called softly and placed his hand at my back, raising me up a little. I looked at him and saw those green eyes. "its okay" he said softly, did he think I didn't know it was him who did this?
"G-Get away fr-from me"
"Dylan"
"DYLAN! OH GOD" my best friends called and they were kneeling next to me. "Hey. Can you hear me?" Raven asked. I could feel my consciousness ebbing away and right there, a hand went to my legs and I was pulled up from the floor in a bridal way.
"Clear the way" Henry said and soon I felt my body shake, he was running, I couldn't hear what my best friends were saying but they were screaming something, the pain was unbearable, I could hear gasps and whispers but nothing except his voice telling me I was going to be okay. The pain was unbearable, I quickly held his hoodie tight, clenching my teeth and grunting in pain in his chest.
"It's gonna be okay." He assured me.
