Chapter 17.
"Come here!! I will fucking kill you!!" His hands gripped my neck as he proceeded to choke me.
Vaughn.
I tried to get him off me. Hitting him and struggling underneath him, but he wasn't letting me go. He added more pressure as I felt the life slowly leave me while I struggled for air. I touched everything around me until I could find an object, and once I was able to grab something, I immediately stabbed him in the eye.
I wasn't dead yet.
How'd I know that? Well cause the devil didn't come pick me up. There was no chariot of 'hell' fire and a red carpet placed on the floor , right in front of me to walk on.
You honestly don't think I'd make heaven, do you? *snorts*
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Those constant electronic beeps sounded loudly through my ears. My eyes seemed heavy, I tried to open them but it was as if they were fighting me back. Their owner. They were hard to open and reminded me of this story I read on an app called wattpad called 'voilet' it was an amazing horrifying story where their eyes were being sewn short for a hide and seek game. That's also the name of the first part of the book. 'Hide and seek'. I could feel soft sheets where I laid.
Okay am I really dead?
I could smell some familiar scents. I always hated this particular smell.
But Why? I forced my eyes to open, opening them slowly. It was all blurry and bright white light shown right into them.
oh God. I made heaven.
I blinked and I saw white ceiling, I titled my head to my left and saw an electronic machine and then I realised where I was and why I hated that smell. The smell of medicines and all those disgusting things.
I'm in a hospital. Oh my God. I'm in a hospital
I groaned loudly as I could still feel pain. My left arm was stiff.
"Hey, sweetie" I heard a sweet voice say and a hand push my hair back. I looked to my right and saw my mom smiling down at me. She'd packed her hair into a really horrible bun, she looked like she'd been crying. Her eyes sparkled when it met mine.
"Mom?"
"Hey, baby. How's your head?" She sniffed.
"Is it just me or do you look ugly right now?" I answered in a weak tone.
"I'll take that as an 'I'm okay mom. Thanks for asking' "
I laughed halfway and stopped when I instantly felt pain around my ribs. "Ow! I don't think I'm allowed to laugh that hard."
"You're not." she chuckled.
"Your fault." I smiled "Have you been crying?"
She faked a smile and shook her head. "No. I can't find water to mob the floors so I'm using the ones from my eyes" she sarcastically replied
I almost laughed.
"I hate you." I smiled. "Where's Jaxton and Raven? Are they okay?"
"Mmhmm." she nodded. "They're fine, sweetie. They went home."
I frowned. "Home?"
"Yes. Home. I sent them home cause it was late, they stayed at the hospital until this morning. They'll be back soon."
"What time is it?" I asked curiously
"It's 11AM"
"E-Excuse you?" My brows furrowed in shock. "Are you saying I slept in a hospital for that long? That I spent the night here?"
That was my main problem.
I have a fear for hospitals you see. Like I just have this phobia. I can't stay in a hospital for five minutes.
"Mom, you know how I feel about hospitals." I said in a weak voice and winced when I felt a bad headache.
"Then next time don't get beat up."
I scowled at her.
"Don't be dramatic now, okay?. I was here all night with your father and so. Nothing happened to you"
"Jaxton." I tried to sit up and winced in pain. "Is he okay? You said he went home, where is he? What home? Home home? It's not safe there."
"Sweetie, your father accompanied him. He's gonna be fine, your dad volunteered to take him and bring him back."
Oh.
She sniffed.
"God. I shouldn't have made you go to that party? I was scared when I saw you last night. The blood. The glasses. The...the doctor was talking about how you..h-how you were losing blood and all that. I was s-scared" her eyes were filled with tears and she tried keeping them in but I saw already
"Mom," I placed my hand on hers. "I'm kinda glad i did go. Imagine what could have happened if it all went south and I didn't have Jaxton's phone. And besides, look how iconic this is. It was my first party here, and I ended up almost getting murdered." I giggled and winced again. "Fun."
Mom rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Why didn't you just wait for the cops? You're seventeen for God's sake, you can't go fighting a twenty six year old....dealer"
What? Twenty six? I knew he was way older.
"Mom. The cops arrived about thirty minutes late. You really expected me to wait outside while Jaxton got devoured by a Russian drug dealer? Is this who we have become? No humanity?"
"Bitch, don't even. You were born without a heart."
"I can hear mine beating."
"It's colour is black." She said and sighed afterwards. "I wouldn't have forgiven myself if I lost you."
"Well, you didn't."
"I just wish you didn't have to go in there."
"But i had to." I shrugged. "Look at me, momma. I know some fighting moves and I still ended up here. Now, Jaxton, Jaxton knows none. He can't even throw a punch, so imagine how bad his injury would have been. It would have been.....worse for him." I gulped, remembering the sight I had met.
Mom sighed.
"What i mean is, imagine I had waited outside like some coward. Waiting for the cops to come save my best friend when all these happened to me in that amount of time. Imagine what could have happened to Jaxton. Jaxton isn't just some random kid, mom. He's my best friend. I couldn't let anything happen to him and get him out. If Raven and I hadn't gotten there on time, i...i don't wanna think about what would have happened to him. Would he ever heal?" I swallowed. "I'm really not trying to make this about me but, when your friends need you, shouldn't you do anything an everything you can to help them? That's what Raven and I did." I shrugged. "And I don't regret that. I mean, we are all alive anyways."
Mom went silent, she held my hand in hers and squeezed.
"I'm glad I went in there, I have no regrets cause if I was beaten that bad and beaten to this point that I'm almost bandaged up like a mummy from Egypt. I don't wanna think about what might have happened to Jaxton" I said softly.
"Look, I'm glad you finally have people who you really really care about and think of their well-being. I'm happy you have Jaxton and Raven. I thought you'd never have friends who you'd fight for or think about this way. Isabelle was your best friend and eventually your only back in Seattle. We moved and I got worried, but I'm glad you found them."
"No mom. They found me. It's the other way around." I said and smiled
Mon chuckled and nodded, wiping off her tears. "But, I don't want you being hurt because of other people."
I smiled.
I've caused people a lot of hurt.....
Maybe it was my turn.
****
I was sitting on this stupid hospital bed eating some English muffins mom had made for me. They were really delicious. At first I didn't want them because i wasn't feeling hungry but she made me taste one and now I'm having my third Muffin.
I swear my mother is the best.
"These are really good" I said as I chewed.
"You said that like five times already. " she chuckled.
"Cause they really are!" I asked staring at the one I held
She chuckled.
"I'm so glad you made seven." I smiled at her and then frowned. "Wait, why did you make seven?"
"Because of Jaxton and Raven?"
I scowled at her.
"If they come near my babies. I'll rip their heads off." I said as I held the lunch bag close.
Immediately, there was a knock on the door which caught our attention, it opened and my best friends walked in.
"Ah. Speak of the devils" I grinned once I saw them. I was glad they were here. Jaxton was putting on some denim jeans and a green shirt while Raven was wearing a black dress, a black choker neckpiece and really high heels and blood lipstick like I call it. Jaxton had a little bandage above his left brow and around his wrist.
"He's awake." Raven announced happily with a grin and walked towards me the same time as Jaxton, opposite sides of my bed.
"Hey!" Jaxton smiled and they both gave me a hug.
A group hug.
"Aw...ow! Ow! Guys, that's enough." I started to feel pain on my arm.
"Sorry." Raven said as they both stopped before sitting on each side of my bed.
"Hey, Bonnie." Jaxton smiled, sadly.
"Hey, sweetie. How's your head?"
He nodded. "Better."
"I'll leave you three alone." Mom said with a sigh and stood up. "And I made muffins for you all. Don't let Dylan have them all." She shot me a sinister look and smiled at Raven before heading for the door.
My jaw dropped.
"YOU ARE SUCH A TRAITOR." I shouted to her hearing.
"Mmhmm, I've heard worse, sweetie." she said as she opened the door and walked out, closing it behind her.
My best friends looked back at me, four brows furrowed.
"Don't touch my babies." I said holding them closer.
"How do you feel?" Jaxton asked with a chuckle.
"After being thrown around by a psychopath, I feel great."
"Not the time to be sarcastic, Dylan." Jaxton said.
"It helps ease the mood." I replied
"I thought you were dead, and I was already searching for a new best friend to fill in for you won't be easy." Raven said. "That's why I'm wearing black."
"Sorry babes, It will take more than a Russian man to get rid of me, but then excuse you?"
"I mean. Someone might get transferred to Eastwood high." She beamed "He could have red hair like mine" she gasped smirking at her thoughts. "...or maybe blue. Oh my God"
"You are a traitor, but you could never find someone like me." I sang.
"Well if he does come, he gotta be gay like you." She beamed.
"Raven," I glared. "'My mom didn't leave for New Zealand, she might be able to hear you." I whisper-yelled at her.
"Right, sorry."
I sighed.
"You're irreplaceable though, and I love you." She smiled.
"I know, there is no one like me."
"Thank you, Dylan" Jaxton said in a low tone.
"For what?" I turned to him.
"For saving my life." He said, his eyes teary. "You came in at the right time and you didn't even leave me. You put in your best even when he was no match for us.
"You...you know you're really something else, you and Raven too." He smiled at her. "A lot of people wouldn't have had the guts to do what you both did. I don't think I have had anyone stand up for me like this. So, thank you. I really cannot thank you enough Dylan, and—" he stopped, trying not to cry. "Because of me you're stuck here and it is all my fault, I'm so sorry" he apologized, a tear falling from his face.
"No. Hey!" I held his hand. "No tears. You are my friend, and I go a long way for friends. I couldn't let you fight that man alone, besides if I let you handle him alone, I would miss out on the fun of being slammed around everywhere, strangled and almost murdered." I smiled.
"You are so crazy." Jaxton chuckled as he wiped his tears.
"Very strange." Raven nodded.
"Thank you so much." Jaxton smiled, softly.
"Wow. This got emotional reeeeeal quick" Raven said dragging our attention back to her. " You know what we should do? Let's make a vow to always stand by each other. Help out in whatever way we can and not keep anything from each other." Raven said with a small smile. She sat on my bed and placed her left hand forward.
I looked at her hand and then at her then at Jaxton and back at her hand.
I am a pandora box, a box full of secrets, I am definitely gonna keep things from them.
I couldn't make that kind of a promise.
Jax nodded and put out his hand on Raven's. "I guess we can do that."
"Aren't we moving a bit too fast?" I said.
"Friendships are stronger with no secrets." Ravens shrugged.
But I liked having secrets.
I had a lot in fact.
"Fine." I placed mine on Jaxton's.
"I didn't think I'd be doing this BFF thing with Raven ever, but here we are." Jaxton said.
"Just so you both know. Isabelle comes before you both, because she's like a sister to me."
"Who?" Raven asked with a small frown.
"N-Nevermind."
"Then it's settled, no secrets." Raven sighed and we all pulled our hands away.
No secrets?
Henry! Do I...I can't tell them about henry. One. They'd tease me and its crazy. First I say I hate him and then I kissed him? Ugh. I almost hate myself.
We are teenagers. We are meant to have secrets.
Plus Henry's secret didn't just belong to me. It was OUR secret. So my lips had to remain sealed.
"No secrets." I nodded.
"No secrets." Jaxton repeated after me.
"Great then. When do you leave?"
"I don't know, but I think they wanna keep me in here for another day and that is scary."
Thanks to Vaughn, I'm in this condition.
Raven quickly grabbed the lunch bag from me. "That's enough, It's for everyone remember." She said and took one out.
"Hey, you thief!" I frowned and tried to reach for it but she pulled it back.
"Wow. They're good." She said and passed the bag to Jaxton, making a surprised face at how good the muffins were.
Those were supposed to be MINE.
Jaxton took one out and also took a bite. "Oh wow." His eyes widened as he chewed.
I sighed.
Just them I remembered Vaughn and how mom said he was twenty six. Jaxton had lied and I was mad at him for that. Hiding a man that way older.
"Jaxton, why did you tell me at first that Vaughn was a highschool student?"
Jaxton choked and suddenly began to cough, hitting his chest while i tilted my head to the side.
"You lied and he's twenty six? How-"
"Wait...who is Vaughn?" Raven asked, confused.
"He's the guy who attacked Jaxton and the reason why I'm here." I answered.
Raven snorted with knitted brows and a smile. "What'd you mean? Jaxton told the cops he didn't know who that guy was." She said and took another bite from her muffin.
He what?
My eyes popped as I looked at him, gobsmacked.
"YOU DID WHAT?"
Raven and Jaxton both flinched. "Jesus, Dylan? Its not like Jaxton will—" Her eyes popped once she understood. "Wait! Oh my God." She gaped slowly turning to him. "You liar." she said in a whisper.
"He does know who that man is." I shook my head, pissed at Jaxton. "That guy is his ex boyfriend."
"Ex?" She turned to him. "Oh My God. Jaxton. That guy is way older than you with ten years"
"Nine." He corrected
"We literally just said no secrets." Raven said.
"He might be turning twenty seven this year." I told Jaxton.
"No, he's not turning twenty seven"
"Did you celebrate his birthday already?" Raven asked.
"Well-no. I'"
"You've been dating for six months. No birthday. He's turning twenty seven this year. Ten years" I whisper yelled.
"Well I'll be eighteen soon so it's still nine" he whispered
"I cannot believe you're fighting about his age range with us right now. " Raven whisper-yelled.
"He's in his late twenties. That's all that matters. From the age twenty six. Its late. He's past mid twenties and early twenties. You're dating a man old enough to be your dad" I yelled, whispering too.
Jaxton frowned. "He's twenty six. I'm seventeen. There's no way he could have been able to father a child at the age of ten. You're over exaggerating"
"That is not the point. Okay maybe he wouldn't be old enough to have you, but regardless. That's a crime. On his part." I said.
"Dylan, listen, it's not that..." Jaxton trailed off, sighing. "I don't know what happened."
"He's trying to explain something. I can't believe you're defending a maniac" Raven said getting frustrated.
"Guys! I'm not defending that psychopath, okay?. I'm not. He's bad news. I...I couldn't tell the cops!. He's twenty six and I'm just seventeen. What do you think everyone would say?" He looked at both of us with a look of worry.
"Is he a maniac or a psycho? What do we call him?" Raven cut in.
"A psychopathic maniac." I said without giving it much thought.
"And Jaxton, that's not an issue. whatever people think do not matter. You're supposed to tell the cops the truth about Vaughn so they can keep him far away. What hurts right now is the fact that you lied to me." I turned to Raven. "Vaughn is his boyfriend. His...his ex who cheated on him. He's twenty six. And Jaxton here told me he goes to another school. Nice one." I frowned at him.
"You need to understand me. I didn't want to be judged." He sighed.
"He was a pedophile. He went for a guy who isn't eighteen yet. No. I wouldn't have judged you. I would have reported him to the cops" I said all at once.
"Dylan is right Jaxton. Even though I heard nothing about Vaughn and no one even bothered to tell me. I agree with Dylan. You shouldn't have lied to the cops. Tell them you dated that maniac who almost killed you so they can keep him away from you." Raven said and I couldn't agree more.
He seemed to be arguing this in his head. He sighed seconds later and looked down at his shoes. "You guys are right."
"Damn right we are" Raven nodded.
"I just...he might have treated me badly but I guess I still.."
"You shouldn't have to protect someone who almost murdered me, and hurt you so bad."
Jaxton gulped, nodding.
"He's right Jaxton, and he didn't love you. He was maybe obsessed. No one hurts the person they love but they hurt the people they're obsessed with." Raven said and patted his shoulder gently.
"So when you said those words '...was the nicest, hottest man ever ' you really meant 'man' and here I thought you were giving him some credit for being mature."
"Oh he is matured alright" Raven spoke rolling her eyes. "How in the world did you even get to meet that maniac with a weird accent?" Raven asked with a frown.
"He's Russian and...I don't know I guess he played his part well and...I fell or him" Jaxton had a sad expression on his face.
"We understand. He wasn't right for you, he was way wrong for you. He could have hurt you more and I am glad it is all over," I told him. "You made a good decision by breaking up with him, and all you have gotta do is report him."
"I will." He nodded. "I will."
"Now, please tell me. How did he get into your house?" Raven asked. "Does he have a key? Oh my God. Is your relationship up to that stage?"
"No. Of course, not. He's not my husband, I'm only seventeen."
"If only that thought crossed your mind when you were riding him like a horse" she rolled those eyes again.
I smacked Raven on the head.
"Ow!" She cried.
"Not the time." I told her.
"It's okay." Jaxton shook his head. "She's right."
"Oh and Jaxton," I called.
"Hmm?"
"What is up with all the glasses in your house? Like come on, are you and your mother like glass obsessed? Why do you have so many flower vases?"
It was a question that needed an answer because why the hell is a human being have that many in their living room to be thrown at me or have me slammed against?
Jaxton blinked. "I—"
