Chapter 63

Jaxton's P.O.V

I sat in the kitchen as I ate lunch, I had to follow Dylan immediately he left the coffee shop an hour ago. His mood changed, completely and we all felt it. I knew it had to be Eric, I didn't need anyone to tell me that asshole was the reason behind Dylan's sudden mood swing. I hate that asshole, everything seemed to be falling apart now. First it was Raven almost being raped and then my mother suddenly wanting to be in my life again which is a little weird and then there's Dylan, trying to keep his life as the lie it is for some time.

Tragic best friends events.

I decided to let him be for now, I figured he needed his space since he looked like he was about to cry at any time and if I say anything he was gonna cry and I knew he didn't want to do that on the street or in front of me. After I asked what was wrong once we left the coffee shop and he didn't answer, I didn't say anything else cause I knew he didn't want to talk and couldn't even if he wanted to, so I gave him his space.

Dylan knew how to act, he was great at pretending everything was fine, and that was what he did when we got home. He acted like everything was fine, a smile so perfect and real was on his face you wouldn't know he wanted to slam his head against the wall, I was worried about him. He greeted his grandmom and his mother who was home, I knew it was part of Mr. Dexwell's plan. He got Dylan's grandparents here so they can stop Bonnie from working since she wouldn't listen to anyone and it's been just a day and they already made her stay home.

Mr. Dexwell and Mr. Felix, Dylan's hot grandfather had gone out. Apparently, Dylan's grandfather needed a tour to know if he'd ever want to come here again. I hope he doesn't, this town is a curse.

Mr. Felix isn't as old as most grandfather's are, he's got total Grey hair and is well built, he looked like the kinda man everyone would want to look like when they get old. Classy.

My mother had made me think more than I should, I didn't know if to forgive her, I really wanted to believe her. Maybe she did change but I couldn't forget the things she did and said to me. I decided to give her another chance and try the mother-son thing again but then Dylan's mom spoke to me about it and she made me understand that people don't change just by saying they have. I needed proof from her that she was ready to have me back in her home and treat me like her own son. I hope my sister is okay, I don't want her hating me, I mean I really do love her and wanna go back to her but I don't know how much more I can take. She needed to prove herself and I have told her that, promises mean nothing these days.

I love the Dexwell family and I'm always gonna say it, they make me feel special. They make me feel like I deserve to be happy, that I deserve a family and I couldn't be more thankful for them.
Mr. Dexwell was a father figure to me, he didn't treat me any different, he was super nice to me.

Bonnie? She was the best being in the world, she was the mother I always dreamed of. She never made me feel like I wasn't her son, she was perfect. She didn't treat me differently as well, hell she even gave me special treatment and Dylan never complained.

Dylan, I found a brother in him. He was amazing, he was my savior. The number of times he had called me his brother warmed my heart, he has been there for me in difficult times, he helped me fight my demons and I cannot thank him enough for everything. He's been really stressed lately, with the whole Raven situation and now Eric. I doubt he had any sleep last night.

I decided to go talk to him, I dropped my now empty plate in the sink and dashed up the stairs and to Dylan's room.

I knocked and waited till he said come in before I did, he was standing close to his window with a phone close to his ear. He said something, sighed and hung up.

He looked really tensed.

"You okay?"

He ran his hands through his hair and shook his head. "No, principal Evans is being an ass, he wouldn't bring Eric back and I have less that forty eight hours."

"Maybe he's not being an ass, maybe he thinks he's trying to protect you and the rest of the school. You can't blame him." I shrugged.

He sat slowly on his bed. "What am I supposed to do? My life is becoming a mess, everything isn't going the way I planned. How the fuck did Eric even get into the school at first?" He sighed. "Someone should have seen him and stopped him."

He was right, someone should have spotted him even after the school was over but no one did, but then Eric knows the inside and outside of the school.

"I-I need to start some kinda..campaign or protest with every Eric lovers in school and have them force principal Evans to bring him back."

He's kidding right?

I shook my head. "You are not gonna do that right?"

He looked at me. "What other choice do I have?"

"Dylan, we will think of something."

He shook his head. "I'm running out of time, that's what matters now. Two things are at stake here, my normal life and Henry's reputation and I can't let both go down like that, no."

Even after everything Henry did to him, he was still trying to make Henry have a better life. He was still trying to help Henry out and keep his stupid reputation and then he tells me he doesn't like him. Pfft, yeah right.

"You need to eat, Dylan."

"I'm not hungry." He said as  he quickly dialed a number and placed it against his ear, once he started speaking I took that as my cue to leave and I did.

I felt bad for him, I really did. He didn't deserve any of the things that were happening to him.

I walked to back to the kitchen to do the dishes since I had nothing to do and wanted to keep my mind off everything, rolling up my sleeves I began until I heard footsteps, I turned and there stood Dylan's gorgeous grandmother walking towards the kitchen.

Athena was a pretty woman, you could tell she was somehow related to Dylan, she had white hair just like Dylan and his mom, no trace of black and also had really pretty blue eyes. Dylan really did look like her, I mean he looked like his mother and his mother looked like Athena and well you get the point. This family was blessed with the looks of a certain god.

"Hi," I smiled at her. "Do you um...need my help with something?"

She shook her head and gave me one of her warm smiles as she took a seat in the kitchen. "No, continue dear." She said and placed both hands on the table.

"Okay," I nodded and went back to washing.

"Actually," she spoke and I looked back at her. "Would you please get me a cup of water?"

I nodded. "Of course," I rinsed my hands and dried it with a cloth. I quickly took out a glass and filled it with water, walked back to her and carefully handed it to her.

She smiled at me. "Thank you," she said sweetly. "Please, sit with me. I wanna discuss something with you."

I nodded. "Sure," I said and sat beside her.

She took a sip from her glass and as she placed the glass on the table, those blue eyes looked at me. "Bonnie has told me a lot about you, Dylan's good best friend."

I smiled and nodded. "Yeah, since he came to town."

"How did you two become best friends? I mean Dylan isn't the kind to have friends more like want them."

I chuckled. "Uh, after seeing him stand up for one of the bullied kids at school, we just kinda became friends from there." I shrugged.

She smiled. "Dylan has always been the kind to look out for the weak because he know how it feels like."

I nodded. "I know, Bonnie told me about it."

"I hope you don't mind, Bonnie did tell me about your mother."

I swallowed and nodded. "I understand."

"I can be persuasive," she smiled. "I just wanted to know about you and now, I want you to know that you've got a second family here, they love you. Just hearing my daughter talk about you, it sounds like she wants to keep you forever." She said and we both chuckled. "From what I've heard and seen, you're a good kid, Jackson."

I arched my brows. "Um, its Jaxton."

"That not what I said?" Her brows rose.

I shook my head. "You called me Jackson."

"Oh, sorry. I'm not good with names." She sighed.

I laughed.

So, she's the one Dylan got that from, Explains it.

She smiled once I laughed. "I want you to not stop being friends with Dylan,"

I nodded. "I wouldn't dare."

"Obstacles will come, bad things will happen. It's all a test and you shouldn't leave him, every friend Dylan gets close to always hurt him someway or the other and then he's back to square one."

I had to keep being positive. "Well then, he's lucky he's got the best best friends in the world. Raven and I." I grinned.

She giggled. "Good," she patted my hands. "I am a little worried about him though." I looked back at her and her smile was gone. "A lot has been happening,"

I nodded. If only she knew. "Yeah,"

"With the whole....thing he's going through at the moment," she sighed. "I wish there was someway to help without worsening the situation."

My brows knitted.

Wait, did she know?

I looked at her and she was looking back at me with a pitiful expression. "He's always tried to do the right thing and now somehow it backfired all because of..." She trailed off and sighed. "I don't wanna spill." She said and took a sip from her glass.

Oh. I already know.

"He told you?" My voice came out as a whisper

She nodded. "Dylan would never hide anything from me, I'm his grandmother. Of course he told me, i spoke to him earlier and made him speak to me but I don't think he wants you all to know about it." She huffed.

I scoffed. "Well, he already told me about it and we're thinking of a solution."

Her brow rose. "How do I know you're not lying?"

"I'm not." I shrugged.

"Prove it."

"It's about that asshole Eric blackmailing him, he could have at least told you that."

Her brows rose. "Well, you do know."

I nodded. "I'm worried about him," I sighed. "I mean Eric is threatening him and he has to find a way to get Eric to come write the exams on Monday or he's gonna share that photo to everyone and he's taking it really hard, I didn't think you knew about his big secret but I guess it's just his parents and that's what scares the shit out of him." I sighed in frustration.

"Indeed," She took another sip. "I just hate that kid already and want to burn him alive but jail's not my style."

I giggled.

Wow, did this run in their family? The whole threatening thing?

"How'd you know about his big secret?" She asked.

"Well, I'm gay and i mean he's gay as well and so, why hide it from your best friend who is just like you?" I asked rhetorically with arched brows.

"Mmhmm," she nodded and put her glass down. "That explains it." She said and sighed again. "Well, I have to go take a nap, I'm a little tired." She said as she rubbed the back of her neck.

I nodded. "Of course, you rest. If you need me, just call out for me."

She smiled and stood up. "Of course. Thank you, Jaxton."

I grinned. "You called my name right."

She nodded. "You matter, I won't forget." She said with a smile.

Something about that smile of hers reminded me of something about Dylan that I couldn't place well.

"Everything will be fine, grandma Athena is here. I wasn't named after a goddess for nothing." She said and kissed my cheek.

I giggled.

Once she left, I took the glass cup with a smile and went back to washing.

Somehow, she gave me a really positive vibe. I felt everything was gonna be okay cause she was here, I just did.

Dylan's P.O.V

I was laying on my bed, sighing continuously as I stared at the ceiling thinking of possible solutions to the problem when a knock came on my door.

I sighed and rolled over, pretending to be asleep.

My door opened and I shut my eyes.

"You know, you do need a new trick. You've been doing the sleep pretense thing for years." Grandma Athena said, I sat up and looked at her with a little smile. "You need to come up with something else."

I chuckled. "How do you always know when I'm not asleep."

"I'm your grandma, I literally brought you up." She chuckled as she came over and sat by my side. "I always know when something's up with my baby." She said and ruffled my hair.

I giggled like a child once again, she always made me feel like one.

"You know you can tell me anything right?" She said with a smile.

I wanted to, I didn't want to lie to her but I just couldn't tell her.

"I'm fine, just mood swings, ma." I fake smiled.

She smiled back and sighed. "You're not a good liar, I always knew something was wrong but couldn't tell what exactly cause you're good at keeping your problems a secret from the world."

I looked down at my hands

"But you're not alone, baby." She kissed my forehead and placed my head on her chest. "You can speak to me anytime, you know. I don't care about what it is cause I'll always love you no matter what it is," I really did feel awful that she didn't know but my mind wouldn't let me speak. "Now, tell me why you've been sad and constantly crying."

I shook my head. "Can we just say I'm on my period or something like that?" I asked softly.

She laughed, making me smile.

"You're indeed, something else."

I smiled. "I'm fine, grandma. I promise."

"Okay, but I really don't know why you feel the need to hide the fact that you're gay and your sexuality is being used against you from me. I mean, come on."

I moved away quickly, my heart stopped at that moment and a second later started beating really fast, I just stared at her with wide eyes. Oh God. She knew. "W-What? I don't know what you're talking about " I chuckled nervously.

She just looked at me with furrowed brows and a smile. "Dylan, I know."

My heart was gonna stop and I was gonna have a heart attack anytime soon, I was scared.

I gulped, my hands were shaking at the moment. "H-How...I-"

"Its okay, sweetie." She smiled sweetly. "I'm not gonna slam your head against the wall and tell you you're going to hell if that's what you wanna hear."

I blinked. "How did-"

"Your best friend told me,"

My eyed widen. "WHAT? Jax told you?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"Chill," she placed her hand on my shoulder. "You and your mother got your manipulation from the queen and that's me of course. I just manipulated him into telling me what was bothering you and he did, he thought I knew about it." She shrugged. "I guess acting school during my teenage years still pay off," she beamed.

On a normal day, I would have laughed or something but I couldn't at this moment, this was a serious time.

"I am gonna admit that I am mad at you, Dylan." She said with a straight face and I felt the arching in my chest. "I'm mad at you for not telling me," she continued, my brows knitted in confusion as tears fell from my eyes immediately.

She shook her head at me, wiped off my tears while I just stared at her with a confused expression, she cupped my cheeks, a smile on her face. "Did you think I was going to judge you, hmm?"

I looked down as I felt the emotions, the tears fell again. "I'm sorry," I muttered.

"Did you think I was gonna stop calling you my grandson and leave?" I couldn't look her in the eyes and felt my tears just touch her hands. "That I was gonna think you were a disappointment just cause you're gay?" She asked softly and at that moment i heard her voice break, I looked up at her and saw her crying as well. "You hurt me, Dylan. You didn't even trust me with this information, you didn't even tell me that someone's blackmailing you and trying to make your life miserable, you know that I'd never allow that. You didn't even trust me with your sexuality, you like boys so what? Colton Haynes likes boys too and he's not being stoned to death." She said and I laughed even with the tears and she joined me.

My laughter slowly turned back to sobs, I hugged her tight, placing my head on her chest. "I'm sorry, grandma."

"You hurt me, I didn't think you'd hide anything like this from me. I'm not evil, I wouldn't toss all our memories into the trash cause you like boys." She patted my back and stroked my hair with her other hand.

"I'm sorry, I j-just didn't know what you'd think of me, I was s-scared and I'm still scared."

"Shh, shh. It's okay, peter pan." She said softly. "I love you, forever. I don't know how long you thought you could hide this from everyone of us, I mean I've known for a long time." She chuckled.

I pulled away and looked at her in awe. "You did?"

"Dylan, your ringtone was Beyoncé." She stated as if it was that obvious.

"Everybody loves Beyoncé."

"Your ringtone was 'single ladies'." Her left brow rose.

I opened my mouth to say something in defence but didn't know the right words to say. "It d-doesn't matter, what if it was a dare."

She snorted. "You knew the whole choreography and you were just eight years old." She said with a chuckled.

I didn't have any other thing to say in my defence and just bit my bottom lip.

She laughed. "Yeah, it was that obvious."

"Why didn't you say anything?" I asked softly.

She smiled. "It wasn't my job, I wasn't gonna pull you out myself, you had to do it yourself and I thought you were gonna come out soon but it's been God knows how many years and still nothing."

"You could have at least told me,"

She stroked my cheek. "No," she shook her head. "You were the one who needed to come out to us and I wasn't gonna force you to do it or act suspicious about it."

I sniffed and wiped off my tears.

"I know you've been pressured to have a girlfriend."

"You have no idea," I chuckled.

"And I know what your grandfather said about you having a girlfriend this morning was what upset you, I've been watching you sweetie. I knew it got you upset and that's why you avoided breakfast, I mean who can say no to your mother's pancakes?"

I snickered. "No one."

"Exactly," she pinched my cheek. "I love you, will always do and I don't want you to forget that."

I nodded, smiling. "I love you too, grandma and I'm really sor-"

"It's okay, now about this kid that's blackmailing you. Are you gonna tell me everything?"

I nodded and that I did, I didn't leave any detail out, I told her about Henry too and what the photo contained and who Henry was.

"Then, why don't you tell your parents about it before he does."

I sighed. "I can't."

"How long are you gonna be in the dark, Dylan?"

I looked up at her.

"I think you should tell them before that son of a bitch does."

"I don't think they're as understanding as you are, I mean you already had your suspicions."

She nodded. "I did, I know my daughter and son in-law, honestly I'm glad you did forgive him after everything and he has been trying to make it up to you. Do you think he'll throw all this away just cause you're gay?"

I nodded. "Yes."

"That was rhetorically, dummy." She said and smacked my arm.

I chuckled.

"They love you, they wouldn't hate you if you like dicks."

"Grandma, too graphic for you." I grimaced.

"I'm a sixty two year old woman, I'm not that old."

I laughed. "You're old."

"We all have white hair, we're all old."

I giggled.

"Back to the topic, come out to them."

I sighed. "I can't, I know how this works. Parents love their kid like crazy and when that kid comes out as gay, its gets all awkward or they end up hating on him and treat him like he doesn't matter and I don't want that. I like my family this way even if it means living a lie, I'm happy."

She shook her head. "You would be happier if you didn't live a lie."

"I'm gay, grandma."

"Jaxton is too, he's happy. Your parents love him, they are not homophobic."

"Cause it ain't their son," I cocked my brow. "I can't have this happen."

She sighed. "I tried," she shrugged. "Don't just let this get you really depressed, Dylan. It gets bad when you're that way and we can't have that happening to you again,"

"I don't cut myself, grandma."

"Not physical pain." she said and patted my knees. "I need to go to the kitchen and prepare something before your dad and grandfather returns,"

I nodded.

"I love you okay, I still do. Nothing's changed at all."

"Thank you for not...unloving me."

She smiled sweetly, "I wouldn't dare." She said and kissed my forehead. "Now go back to pretending to be asleep, I'll be in the kitchen." She said and stood up.

"I-I could come help."

She nodded, smiling. "That'd be really nice if you help me."

I smiled back and stood up, she patted my back as we both went out of my room.

I loved my Grandma Athena more than life itself, she understood me. She was the best being in the world and I couldn't un-love her. She didn't slap me and call me a fag or tell me that I was a disappointment, I had one person by my side but I was scared of my parents.

They were my one fear and I knew I couldn't tell them, grandma was so wrong.

***

Jaxton and I had gone to the grocery store to get something for Grandma Athena, something was missing and she needed that recipe to complete her cooking and so Jaxton and I decided to go get it for her.

"So, you're telling me that your...your innocent looking grandmother t-tricked me into telling her you're gay?" Jax asked for the third time as we walked out of the grocery store.

I nodded. "And you fell for it,"

"Oh. My. Heavens. Dylan, I'm so sorry. I swear I didn't know and didn't mean to spill it out, she just acted like she knew about it already and I stupidly fell for it and I..I am so so sorry, I promise to be more careful."

I chuckled. "It's alright Jaxton, I wanted to rip your head off before but I know my grandma, she's cunning and manipulative and she knew how to get to your head and make you spill everything and she did it."

His eyes held shock, his mouth was opened. "Oh wow, this does run in the family, huh? Oh my God. I fell for it, I knew something wasn't right! Of course, that explains the smile that I thought reminded me of you. The victory-manipulate smile. Oh my laud, how did i...fuck!" He groaned.

I giggled. "Jaxton, it's fine. Seriously, just don't...fall for that again. She's really cunning, you should think like five times before you reply to my grandma, I mean the fourth thought could be the answer she needs." I said as we walked.

"Wow," he huffed. "Your family is really not understandable."

I laughed as we walked, I knew how manipulative my family could be, they always got whatever they wanted.

"I'm gonna have to go out later tonight, anyways."

"Another date with Dominic."

He groaned. "Uh..yeah. Not a date, we're just going o-out."

I hummed. "He hasn't called me in a while, I thought he was dead or something."

"That's mean! Asshole!" He retorted.

"Look who's getting defensive over their mate."

"We're not wolves." He sighed. "You're annoying." He said and walked ahead.

I laughed. "Whaaat? I was just stating something." I said as I followed behind.

***

We had just eaten dinner, Jaxton had gone out to meet with his lover. Dad and grandpa had been talking about their day and it seemed grandpa Felix did enjoy his outing, it made me smile. Mom said her tummy was starting to really get heavy, she had already forgotten how being pregnant felt like and it was all coming back.

We all played monopoly together, all five of us while Jaxton was on his date. It was a fun night, grandma Athena kept winning, she had the houses at every place we all were likely to enter.

My phone rang as we were playing, I excused myself once I saw who was calling, the one that stole my happiness.

"Eric,"

"Lovely night, into it?"

"What do you want?"

"Meet me at H.O.E." He ordered.

"It's late."

"It's just last nine, be there in ten minutes, nothing more."

I was gonna retort and tell him I couldn't make it but he already hung up, and that meant I had to meet with him. I sighed and turned and there stood grandma Athena.

"It him?"

I nodded. "Yeah, he wants me to meet with him now."

She nodded. "Want me to come with you?"

I shook my head. "No, I'll be fine."

She placed her hand on my shoulder. "It'll be fine."

"Yeah," I nodded. "I can take him, I need an excuse to give my parents."

"Just go, I'll tell them I sent you to get me some painkillers."

"Painkillers?"

"I'm old, they'll believe I need it." She shrugged.

I chuckled and hugged her. "I love you."

"Now go," she said.

I nodded and quickly made my way out the door before any question would arise, leaving it all for my grandmother.

Once I got out of my house and began walking, my phone rang again.

I looked at the called ID and cocked my brows as I answered.

"Wow, he finally calls. You know, I didn't take you for the ungrateful type, you never called after all the ideas I gave you." I said as I walked.

Dominic sighed. "Not intentional, I'm sorry. Jax said you've been stressed."

"Lies." I frowned. "Okay, maybe I have."

He chuckled.

"How's Jaxton?"

"What'd you mean?" he chuckled. "I called to check on him, he's not picking my calls and I wanted to know if he was okay."

I stopped walking. "Didn't... Didn't you guys have a...date tonight?"

"A date? No. We didn't, he said you guys had a family dinner tonight and wouldn't be able to come visit today."

"Oh,"

"What?"

"N-Nothing," I shook my head. "I thought you guys had something planned today, he told me he spoke to you."

"Oh, okay. Um, can I speak to him?"

"No, he's uh..he's quite busy. I'll tell him to call you when he's free, okay bye." I said and quickly hanged up. "What the fuck, Jaxton. Where did you go?"

Jaxton lied to me and also lied to Dominic. What was he hiding? Where did he go?

"What exactly are you up to, Jaxton?" I muttered as I continued walking.
