2: How Things Are

Zuko had a lot on his mind as well. After his coronation, he immediately set on his way to the Earth Kingdom to meet up with Iroh and the rest of the Avatar crew. He wondered if you would be there; hoping not however because Mai had tagged along.

"I never realized the Fire Nation had built so many colonies in the Earth Kingdom."

"Yes." King Kuei nodded as Zuko stood at the map in full Fire Lord gear. He had made Mai stay in his quarters, to avoid you if possible. "For the Earth people, they're a constant reminder of the war. Like an old scar... Oh, I... I-- Fire Lord, Zuko..."

King Kuei stumbled, recognizing the painful look crossing Zuko's face at the analogy. Zuko knew all about scars.

"I meant nothing personal." King Kuei apologized.

"No, Earth King Kuei. You're right. After all the pain my father has caused, it's my duty to being healing to the world. I'll remove those colonies. I'll do whatever it takes." Zuko nodded with a serious face.

"But removing the colonies won't be easy. A lot of people's lives are gonna be disrupted. We need someone to oversee everything, to make sure it all goes peacefully. Someone like me!" Aang pointed to himself and smiled.

"Really?" Zuko looked surprised. "You'd want to do that?"

"Yeah, I'm the avatar! Making stuff go peacefully is kind of my thing!" Aang laughed.

"Wonderful! The avatar's personal involvement will give the entire process an air of hope!" King Kuei clapped.

"Sokka and I can help!" Katara added in.

"Aw, man!" Sokka whined. "I was gonna visit Kyoshi island."

"It'll be a movement-- a movement towards harmony! We'll call it... We'll call it..." King Kuei struggled to name the project, but Sokka quickly jumped to the rescue.

"The Harmony Restoration Movement!"

"Yes! I like it!" King Kuei reacted.

"What's with you and goofy names for everything?" Toph asked Sokka. It was something everyone was wondering.

"It's a gift." Sokka grinned ear to ear.

Speaking of gifts, you were still in the Swamp, helping out with your own.

"You ain't feel nothin' wrong, right, YN?" You mother looked up at you worried.

"Nah, ain't nothin' wrong." You stopped bending and sat back on your heels, tired.

"But it ain't come in months! Ain't another baby, right?!" She frowned. "As cool as it'd be ta have a baby with ya, I ain't have babies good, as ya know."

"I ain't think it'd be cool!" You gasped. "Let me have ma own baby! It's ma first! But nah, I be thinkin' you dried up. Like Granny did."

"Oh." She got quiet. "I guess... I guess you was right. I'm old."

"Yeah, but you gonna be a granny soon. You gotta be." You nodded. "Plus, you ain't have babies good anyway. For the best, Ma."

She frowned, but then smiled.

"Yeah, you right, you right." She reached out to touch your stomach. "Granny soon. Happy 'bout it too."

"I'm glad to hear it!" You stood up. "But I hope that we ain't sit here alone for eight more months."

"Don't get your hopes up, baby girl." Your mother hugged you. "It's the Swamp's baby. Just think of 'em like that 'til he comes. Then ya ain't gotta be disappointed."
