54. this is war
After telling his brothers about his plans to propose to San he felt as though a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Even more so since they both basically gave him their blessing.
As he, Hongjoong and Jongho made their way to town Wooyoung couldn't help the guilt that sinks his stomach deeper and deeper at the thought that his mother was still missing. He'd been trying not to think about it too much but he hated how helpless he felt about the situation. He'd found her only to lose her again. He was going to do everything he could to find her.
Hongjoong and Jongho were laughing about something ahead of him while he lagged behind them, thinking about a million things all at once.
He had his eyes trained to the ground and when he looks up he spots San speed walking towards a different direction. He didn't seem to have noticed the vampire siblings.
Wooyoung immediately perks up at seeing him after a whole afternoon of being apart. "San!" Wooyoung calls out to him, a smile on his lips.
San keeps walking even though Wooyoung was positive he should've heard him. The prince's brows furrow and he vampire speeds in front of him, forcing San to halt to a stop. A startled and unexplainable surprised expression on his face.
"San, what the hell. Where have you been? What did the witch doctor want?" Wooyoung reaches for him, touching the side of his face lovingly as he stared at his eyes trying to read him.
"Nothing" San says flatly at first then a coy smile stretches on his lips. A smile that held an odd mystery behind them. "He just wanted to check in on me"
Wooyoung just stares at him expectantly. "That's it? Really?"
San nods, his eyes momentarily glancing at Wooyoung's lips. "Yeah" His voice was slick. His gaze shifts to the two brothers standing behind Wooyoung. Glancing at Jongho then he looks at Hongjoong, his eyes darkening ever so slightly before he looks back to Wooyoung, an unfamiliar look of want clouding his hazel eyes.
"I have to go now. There's something I've gotta do" His voice sounded sweet but before Wooyoung could even open his mouth to question him San captures his lips in an open mouthed kiss. Wooyoung was shocked at his unsual forward behavior. He knew San disliked any sort of public displays of affection and often felt embarrassed whenever he kisses him with other people around. So for him to be the one initiating it first in the mide of the street and front of Hongjoong and Jongho...? It just wasn't like him.
Nonetheless he kisses him back. His eyes sliding close and hand rising up to rest on the side of San's face. San deepens the kiss quickly, sucking his tongue and angling his head and he pulled their bodies closer. Wooyoung felt hot. A pit burning at his stomach because he'd never seen this side of San before. It almost felt like he was kissing a different person. Those lips.. his touches... they were so familiar yet the way he was kissing felt... different. He couldn't explain it. And when San pulls back with a loose nibble on his bottom lip Wooyoung felt his stomach twist with arousal.
San breathes shakily into his lips, clinging to his body and gently kneading the muscles on his neck with his cold hands. "I'll meet you at our place later" He whispers against his wet lips and Wooyoung just hums in agreement, a dazed look on his face.
Then he pulls back, a grin on his lips, and walks off. But not before throwing a wink at Hongjoong who was awkwardly trying to drag a gushing Jongho away from the couple.
With San gone, Jongho pinches his arm playfully. "You guys are so cute it makes me sick" He fake gags. Wooyoung felt a small grin tug at the corner of his mouth as it slowly dawned on him what just happened and he snapped out of whatever trance San put on him.
Hongjoong simply scoffs and rolls his eyes, he couldn't believe they did that out of nowhere. "Believe it or not, not all of us are comfortable with public displays of affection" He mutters as he walks past them, continuing on their journey back to Wooyoung's room.
"In my defense, we're not usually like that. He hates PDA" Wooyoung says with a skeptic pout, following the older male with Jongho trailing beside him.
"Yeah right" Jongho jumps in. "Ugh, hyung you don't understand how annoying it is traveling with those two. They literally cannot last a second without touching or kissing" Jongho says to Hongjoong with which Hongjoong chuckles in amusement.
"That's different though." Wooyoung whines. "How do you think we feel watching you and Junkyu flirt all the time?"
"We do not"
"Do too"
"Shut up.."
The three vampires were comfortable on Wooyoung's bed, Jongho sitting cuddled to Hongjoong's side at the head of the bed and Wooyoung sitting opposite them at the foot.
It had been so long since they'd been together like this. Talking. Laughing. It made Wooyoung so happy. They meant everything to him and having them both here was so important.
They were joking about anything and everything when Jongho turns serious, taking Wooyoung's hand and playing with his fingers. "So... how are you gonna propose? Like I wanna hear details" The younger vampire grins.
Wooyoung looks up in thought briefly. "Honestly, I haven't really thought about it. Does it matter though? I'll just throw out the question whenever the time feels right" Wooyoung says with a shrug. The look of horror on Jongho's face causes him to straighten up.
"Are you out of your mind? You absolutely have to plan it out and make it like super special" Jongho smacks his arm. "This is marriage we're talking about here. That's a huge deal"
Wooyoung sighs loudly. "Well what do you suggest I do?"
"I don't know. You know him better than anyone. You'll figure it out" Jongho laughs when Wooyoung gets a looks that says 'are you kidding me?' on his face.
"Jongho has a point actually" Hongjoong adds. "Marriage is kind of a big deal. It's got its ups and downs. It's not all flowers and happiness and rainbows. You guys will have conflicts and run into situations where your love for each other is tested. And I get the feeling you're both in your 'honeymoon phase' right now, but once that rose colored glass clears up, would everything change? Are you sure you're ready for it?"
Wooyoung nods with no hesitation. "I love him with everything in me. I've never felt this way about anyone before. Ever. And no matter what lies ahead for us we'll tackle it together" Wooyoung says in a voice so soft and sincere Hongjoong couldn't help the weak smile that stretches on his lips.
"He's my best friend you guys" Wooyoung says with a laugh. "He's my person. The love of my life. If I had it my way I'd wanna get elope right here and now. But with everything going on, it's just not the time"
Jongho's coos as he watched the lovestruck look on his brother's face. There was no doubt about it. Wooyoung's love was undeniably genuine.
"I love seeing you so happy, Wooyo" Hongjoong comments with a sweet smile. "I honestly wish you guys the best. He'd be dumb to say no to you"
Wooyoung felt tears rise to his eyes quickly. He chuckles and begins fanning his eyes to keep them at bay. "Whew.. definitely didn't plan on crying today" He giggles and the other two males laugh at him.
"Yah- don't cry or else I'll cry too" Jongho whines as he dabs at the wetness in the corners of his eyes using his shirt sleeve.
After they'd brought their tears at bay, they continue chatting about random things until it got dark out. Hongjoong who was being unusually quiet, speaks up suddenly.
"Hey Jjong, can I stay in your hut for a bit?" He was hesitant.
Jongho arches a brow at the unexpected question. "What's wrong with yours?"
Hongjoong sighs and shrugs. "I just want a change of environment"
"Did Seonghwa do something? Are you guys fighting?"
"No.. I don't know. I'd just rather... not be there tonight" He silently pleads with his eyes for Jongho to just drop it and the younger male sighs and nods begrudgingly. Of course he'd rather be alone with Junkyu tonight but something was clearly bothering his older brother and he didn't have to stomach to just turn him away.
"Fine. You can stay with me" Jongho gives in. "But I'm gonna get it out of you somehow, the reason you're avoiding Seonghwa"
"I'm not avoiding him" Hongjoong glares at him.
"Suuuree-"
Just then the door swings open revealing a tired looking San. A completely different energy than he had a few hours ago. "Oh you guys are here" San mutters, shutting the door and going to fall face forward on the second bed in the room.
Hongjoong and Jongho look at each other then simultaneously begin pulling themselves out of the bed. "We were just headed out now" Jongho says while grinning knowingly at Wooyoung.
"Don't have too much fun", he mouths to Wooyoung and older male flicks him off with an amused smirk on his face.
"Oh ok. See ya" San says with a muffled voice since his face was still stuffed in the sheets of the second bed in the room, one that Wooyoung even forgot was there because he and San were always cuddled up on the one he was currently seated on.
The door shut and a small silence settles between both males. Wooyoung couldn't help but let his mind wander to the raunchy kiss he shared with San hours ago and he quickly grows aroused as he stares at San's ass.
He licks his bottom lip and hops on the second bed where San was then he gently caresses his bare arm. "You ok?"
San groans into the sheets then props himself up on his elbows since he was still laying on his stomach. He sighs loudly. "I don't know.. I learned a lot today. Like... a lot" He laughs bitterly, running his hand through his dark hair in frustration.
Wooyoung brows furrow at the sight of how distressed his partner was. His arousal quickly subsides and he sits up straighter. "Hey, what's the matter? Did you do the thing you said you had to do?" He caresses San's forehead, brushing his bangs back.
San just looks at him, a bit of confusion in his eyes. "Huh? What 'thing'? You mean the witch doctor?"
Wooyoung shakes his head. "No no" His brows creasing as he matched San's confused expression. "Remember? We ran into each other briefly like 2 hours ago after your meeting with the witch doctor and you said you had something to do-"
"Wait wait wait" San abruptly sits up. "What are you talking about? The last time we spoke was earlier this morning when we talking to Sehyoon. After my meeting with the witch doctor I went out to the lake to think for a bit"
Wooyoung narrows his eyes. "What? You literally... but you were... y-you were there just hours ago. We talked I swear" He stuttered out and stumbled over his words. His mind began racing. What is going on here?
San just watches him as he stared off in thought. "So you're saying you saw m-"
Boom!
A loud explosion from outside cuts off San and caused the entire room to shake as though an earthquake had hit. Both males stare wide eyed at each other and San was the first to race to the front door. Wooyoung right behind him.
Outside were people running down the street, screams can be heard. Drows rushing out for their homes. And in the distance was the angry bright red flames of a fire burning several buildings.
Boom! Another explosion startles the earth and causes San to jump in his own skin. A different part of the village exploded, smoke and fire fogging up and rising into the night sky.
San stares with horror. People ran. Screamed. Fear and confusion evident. It was chaos. "What the hell is happening?" He rushed up to a woman who was running opposite of the fires, stopping her by grabbing her arm.
"I don't know. There was some kind of bomb that went off and the town hall caught on fire. Then vampires started attacking out of nowhere-" She says with tears on her cheeks, her white hair a disheveled mess.
"What?" San's eyes blew out even wider. "Vampires? How did they get in?"
"No one knows" She cries out. "Soldiers are telling people to run towards the emergency exits around the town"
Boom! Another bomb and the screams around increased in intensity. The woman flinches, whimpering. "I'm sorry!" She apologizes before taking off in a run down the street following everyone else.
"This has to be Jaejoong" Wooyoung was already rushing towards the commotion. Towards the direction where people were running away from and San runs right behind him.
As they ran towards the explosion they were more and more dead drows littered all over the streets. Bloodied, mangled and drained of blood. To San it felt like something out of a horror movie. Tears pricked at his eyes. Oh fuck, oh fuck.. he chanted in his head over and over.
"Please! Stop-" A voice screams out for help right before a vampire rips at the man's throat with his fangs then tosses his body against the wall of a hut.
San swore he saw red and before he could even think he vampire sped to the vampire slamming him against the wall before holding him by the throat. "How did you get in? Who's behind this?!" San demands. But the vampire just chuckles at him, half his face from his nose below basically covered in blood. His fangs dripping with the dark red liquid.
"Who else would it be?" His voice came out raspy. "The same man that wiped out druids from existence all those years ago. Tonight, history is going to repeat itself. You're all going to die" He giggles maniacally and San ripped out his heart in a matter of seconds. Then he drops the vampire corpse, his body turning grey and lifeless.
And from San's other hand, he drops the man's heart. San felt his own heart racing. How is this possible? We have to find Jaejoong. Where's Sehyoon? No.. no. Oh fuck. Oh fuck... He was quickly spiraling, the screams and explosions going on around him made him feel smaller. He felt a panic attack come up.
"San!!" Wooyoung's voice snaps him back to reality. San's foggy gaze clears up and he's staring at the fierce grey eyes of Wooyoung who had both hands on either sides of his face. "Yah- snap out of it will you! Are you going to just crumble now? After we've made it this far? We came here to protect your people and we will do that. Jaejoong is not going to win today"
The tears that had slowly been building up in San's eyes finally slides down his cheeks as he looked around him. Huts were on fire. People screamed for help in the distance. Dead drows layed around the streets. It was all spine-chilling. More tears slid down his cheeks and his bottom lip quivered. He felt so helpless.
"San, none of this your fault" Wooyoung says in a voice much more gently. He pulls his face away from the dead bodies he was looking at. "In every war there will always be causalities. Our job now is to make sure nobody else dies. So pull yourself together goddammit, let's go find Hongjoong, Jongho and the other guys and get as much people out of town as we can. Ok?"
Everything felt like it was all happening too fast but he nods weakly, wiping the tears from his cheeks just as Wooyoung takes off in a run, dragging him along by the wrist.
