31. again and again
"You shouldn't have provoked her like that" Jongho lectures as they come to a stop near a cave where they planned on taking cover from the brewing storm.
Wooyoung shrugs. "She shouldn't have provoked me"
"Wooyoung.."
"She went after you knowing it would get to me. I'd do it a hundred times over. And I know you would've done the same" He cuts the younger. That shut Jongho up.
"She's going to be much more aggressive when coming after you" Jongho says, his voice a bit more gentle now.
"Let her" Wooyoung settles down on large boulder, then runs his hand through his shaggy hair.
Just then he gets an unusual sensation hum at the back of his mind and he sits up in alarm, eyes widened. Jongho and Junkyu both look at him, suddenly on alert. "What is it? No way Chiyo found us already" The younger vampire exclaims.
"Shhh" Wooyoung warns. "S-something's weird" He mutters, pulling himself off the boulder.
"What do you mean?" Junkyu asks. He was already getting early signs of dehydration and knew he needed to get into some water soon so the last thing he needed was to have to run some more.
"I don't know, I just-" His breathing was laboured. It felt like a something was making it's way towards him. Like a dull flare only he was aware of. He looks around, searching but couldn't pin point what it was.
"Wooyoung you're freaking me out. What is it?" Jongho steps up to him.
Goosebumps form on his arms and his heart picks up but he wasn't even entirely sure why. The feeling grew stronger and stronger until someone comes barreling through the trees. And that someone was San.
Everyone froze, even Junkyu, and all that could be heard was San's pants from having just ran here. "W-wooyoung?" San was the first to speak. His eyes were wide with disbelief, eyes glossed over and mouth dry.
He tries stepping towards them and Jongho quickly steps forward and in front of Wooyoung. "Stay back!" He warns. "This must be some sort of spell by Chiyo, he's not really here. Don't fall for it Woo"
Wooyoung shakes his head repeatedly. "You're dead.. y-you're supposed to be dead" He whispers.
San's shakes his head too. His throat was too dry and words were suddenly impossible to form. Just then Seonghwa too comes bursting through the trees behind San.
"Werewolf.." Jongho growls out, stepping back further and pushing Wooyoung away from the two newcomers.
Seonghwa raises his hands as if to say he wasn't going to fight. He looks over at San who still hadn't moved. His wide glossy eyes were firm on Wooyoung's.
Wooyoung silently pushes Jongho's arm out of the way to try and get to San. Even if this is all some twisted apparition of his dead lover crafted by Chiyo, he didn't care. He looked real. And the burning flame drawing him to San was real.
"Wooyoung, no-" Jongho starts.
Wooyoung pushes past him and slowly walks to San. A singular tear slides down his cheek and he felt his hands shake beside him. It felt like there was no one else around, like they were the last two people on earth. Time moved slowly and Wooyoung had to stop himself from breaking down into heart shattering sobs.
He stops in front of San and raises a shaky hand to his cheek. His skin was cold, smooth and most important, tangible. "Are you real?" Was all Wooyoung could muster as more silent tears slid down his cheeks.
San swallows, trying hard to wet his dry throat. He takes Wooyoung's cold hand, cupping the prince's trembling hand with both of his. "I missed you so much" San says with a pained laugh as his tears freely fell as well. He could hardly believe it. After all this time, he was even beginning to give up hope ever seeing Wooyoung again but here he was. Right in front of him, alive and well. Breathing and standing right in front of him.
They meet each other in the middle for a long awaited kiss, their aching hearts beating in close synchrony. Tingles repeatedly made its way up and down San's body, his head was empty and he felt as though he was being swallowed whole as Wooyoung's lips moved against his, unyielding. They molded together, fitted against one another with stunning perfection.
Wooyoung hadn't felt as he did now at least for a long time, it almost felt like they were kissing for the first time but at the same time the feeling was so familiar. Was so right. He explores the taste of San, feeling the strength of his arms around him. Inhaling sweat and leather and nature. His scents. They felt as though they'd found a moment of forever. Like this was how they should’ve always been.
The wind whistles around them, blowing their hair and clothing every which way but they stayed strong in each other's arms. And when they break apart, they rest their foreheads together. Both their cheeks wet with tears. Wooyoung held him tight, scared that if he let go for even just a second he'd lose him again. He didn't understand how and why the man he thought was dead was right in front of him but he didn't want to give himself time to think rationally.
"I don't understand" He whispers against San's lips, their eyes closed and foreheads still pressed together. "Is this really happening?"
San giggles softly, his skin buzzing with excitement. "I think so..." His voice come out raspy.
And Wooyoung kisses him again and again and again and San kisses him back each and every single time.
"He put you in a coffin all this time?" San asks with disbelief, his voice echoing in the cave they decided to take shelter in from the storm.
It rains heavily outside, the wind pushing droplets of rain inside the open cave. A dull fire burns in the middle while all 5 males sat around the flame to keep warm. Junkyu needing it the most.
Wooyoung and San were sat really close together, their fingers interlaced and remained so since they got inside the cave.
"Yeah. My mom was there with me. Though I'm almost certain that monster moved her coffin so she probably still isn't there" Wooyoung continues, his eyes dull and fixated on the fire.
"We'll find her. I promise" San gives his hand a squeeze.
A small silence settles. The next thing San feels is a Wooyoung wrapping a lock of his dark hair around his fingers. He looks up at him in surprise.
"So... you're a vampire now" Jongho speaks up, beating Wooyoung to it. His tone teasing and playful.
San releases a shaky sigh and shifts his gaze to Jongho. "I guess you could say that"
"How did that happen?" Wooyoung's brows furrow as he brushes a piece of San's long bangs behind his tapered ear, if only to get a better look at his face. It's been too long and all he wanted to do was just stare at him for hours.
San stares out the cave at the pouring rain in deep thought. "I have no idea. One second I was getting my heart ripped put by your brother the next I'm waking up in pile of bodies"
"Wait what? Hongjoong?" Wooyoung shifts his eyes to Jongho who looks away guiltily. "Jongho told me it was Jaejoong that killed you"
"He manipulated Hongjoong-" Jongho starts.
"It doesn't matter" San's voice cuts creating a silence that was filled with the sounds of rain. "I died and came back and I have no idea how. As far I know it shouldn't even be possible."
Wooyoung runs his thumb over the back of San's hand, their fingers still entangled. "You're here now, that's all that matters. We can always figure out the details later... Plus, I think black suits you more" He adds the last part with a joking smirk.
San couldn't help the smile that grew on his lips and the flutter in his stomach at Wooyoung's grin. He had to fight the urge to capture his lips and kiss his stupid face over and over again repeating how much he missed him. How much he... loves him. But they had to hold off anything super intimate for a bit longer, at least until they were alone.
He leans his head on Wooyoung's shoulder and clasps the prince's hand with both of his. Wooyoung shifts his gaze to the werewolf who hadn't said a word. Seonghwa's head was turned towards the exit of the cave at the heavy downpour. He feels a pair of frosty grey eyes on him from his peripheral and he locks gaze with Wooyoung.
Wooyoung couldn't help but narrow his eyes slightly because even if San had claimed Seonghwa helped them find each other again he was still a werewolf. And he couldn't bring himself to trust him.
"What's your name?" Wooyoung asks, breaking the silence that had settled. San perks up a little at the attention Wooyoung was suddenly giving the werewolf.
Seonghwa stays quiet for two or three seconds, though it felt like an eternity. "Seonghwa" His voice slightly deep firm and cutting through the white noise outside the cave like nothing.
"You shouldn't be Naex. It's illegal for werewolves to be in vampire territory"
"Wooyoung..." San warns, sitting up to look at him. "He's my friend"
"Well your 'friend' needs to go back" Wooyoung says darkly.
"I'm not going anywhere until I know Mujin's safe" Seonghwa shoots back.
Wooyoung sits up, brows furrowed and eyes narrowed. "His name is San. And he's obviously safe now that means your services arent needed so be a good doggie and run home."
"At least I have a home to run to." Seonghwa's grits his teeth, his eyes flash with annoyance.
"Guys!" San exclaims. "Enough." He looks between both males in complete disbelief that they were bickering, right now of all times. Seonghwa looks away, his jaw clamped shut. And Wooyoung looks down at his and San's connected hands.
"He's my friend Wooyoung. He gets to stay as long as he wants" San says, his voice a bit calmer. "And Seonghwa, be nice"
Seonghwa stays quiet. San looks to Jongho who was laying on his back, with his arms behind his head, silently watching the scene unfold with amusement. San rolls his eyes at him and sighs.
"Both of you should get some rest" San says to Junkyu and the sulking werewolf. "The rain doesn't look like it's slowing down any second so we might be here a while. You should sleep while you can."
Junkyu nods and slowly lays down on the cold cave floor, trying to find a comfortable position. Jongho ushers for him to rest his head on his thighs and the merman reluctantly goes closer to the youngest prince with a blush creeping up his neck.
Seonghwa on the other hand doesn't move an inch. "Seonghwa..." San calls out.
"I'm not tired" His voice is firm. He meets San's gaze and felt a dull pain inside him.
"Please" San pleads, hazel eyes soft and gentle. "Get some rest. For me" How could he say no to that? When it came to San, how could he say no to anything? He releases a loud breath and lays on his side, facing away from the two vampires cuddled against each other.
But he couldn't close his eyes. How could he when everytime he tried doing so the image of San in Wooyoung's arms as they reunited and kissed so passionately would reappear in his mind. It was painful. Heartbreaking. And he thought he'd be prepared to see it. He thought it would be the easiest thing to just turn off his feelings and be happy for him but he was wrong.
What exactly is so easy about watching the person you've fallen for give his heart to another?
