◀Chap. 5⚫The Ride▶

Raine's POV

The car ride was too silent. The radio wasn't playing and by the looks of it Jayquan was not  going to start up a conversation.

The whole situation was awkward. I was contemplating whether or not I should say something.

"So…um, where are we going after school?" I finally asked.

"Don't worry yo pretty little head 'bout dat. Jus make sho you in da parking lot afta school. Ya heard me." He spoke with finality so I didn't even bother saying anything, I just shook my head 'yes'.

When we reached school I was the first one to get out of the car. I didn't know why I didn't say no to him. He was controlling, I could tell by the way he spoke to me a while ago and he was used to having his own way.

I made my way around his car, heading for the school doors when I felt him grab the loop of my pants and pulled my roughly into his chest.

"So you not gon' say goodbye. Not even a little see you lata."

"Jayquan, I don't have time for this." I rolled my eyes at his childish antics.

"Come on ma. We may not be togetha...yet, but still..." He was grinning at me.

"Boy gon ahead with yo overgrown seaweed head ass." I chucked his head and we both laughed.

He wrapped his hands around my waist and I rested my hands on his chest.

"You know you luh' me."

"Well…I don't know about that."

"You a wait and see."

"Whatever Jayquan, I gotta get to class." I tried pushing away from his chest but his skinny ass was too damn strong. I looked up at his face and gave him a death glare. People were staring now and I really didn't like the attention.

"You know you gon' have to be watching yo back na."

"Why you say that?"

"Cuz all these girls gon' be fightin' you ova me when you do eventually become mines."

I raised my eyebrow at him.

"Is that right? Who said I was even gonna be yours. The only thing you gon' get is these hands if you don't let go of me."

He laughed at me. He must think that I'm joking.

He came down to my level and placed his head in the crook of my neck.

"Just so you know, you already mines." He whispered in my ear. This caused a slight shiver to pass through my body, making my fingers tremble.

He gave me a kiss on the cheek then finally released me out of his iron clad grip. I quickly walked away from.

"Don't forget about our date this evening." I heard him holler after me.

I rolled my eyes and hurriedly made my way to my locker. I grabbed my books for history and made a dash for class. I made it just before the second bell rang.

I really needed to put a little distance between me a Jayquan. He was getting past all my defences way too quick and I don't like that one bit.

****

The bell finally rang, signalling that it was time for lunch. I remembered that I hadn't eaten anything for breakfast this morning and I could feel a headache coming on real quick.

Making my way to the cafeteria, I hummed along to the song that was playing in my earphones, Liquor by Chris Brown. He is the bomb and that voice is just so...uhh! He is my all time favourite artiste.

I walked through the cafeteria's doors and went in line to buy my lunch like I always do, still listening to my earphones. As I was standing in line I felt someone tap me on my shoulder, I turned around and saw no other than the world's number one hoe glaring at me. I let out an exasperated sigh and slowly took the earphones out of my ears.

"Can I help you?" I asked. This bitch was getting on my last nerve.

She had on a sour look.

"I want to know why the hell are you hanging around with my man?" Her voice was a little bit raised and it was really starting to irk me. So this is what Jayquan meant by I need to watch my back.

Him and all his heffas, please help him God.

"Look, I have no qualms with you or your little hood rats so I'm begging you please to leave me alone and go back to whatever jungle it is the hell you came from."

She was huffing and her little minions were shooting daggers at me. She started to get red in the face but I didn't wanna hear nothing more from her.

Without another word I turned back around and stuck the earphones back in my ears.I knew she wanted to do something and I was just waiting for her to try it. She was gonna know who the real me was up in here.

It looked like she knew better because she and her cronies walked away looking like the three little pigs with sticks stuck up their bony asses, noses turned up like they smelling shit.

Letting out a sigh I concentrated on what I was doing before and saw that I was next in line. I chose some Mac N' Cheese, a chicken sandwich, an apple and a box of orange juice, I quickly paid because I was hungry as hell. I scanned the crowd looking for a place to sit until my eyes locked with Jayquan's. An empty chair was beside him and his dark, piercing, brown globes dared me to sit anywhere else. I stood there staring at him in a challenge.

Rolling my eyes, I made my way towards him and sat down.

"You lucky, I was jus gon' come ova dere and drag you ova here."

Not paying him any mind, I began to eat, trying to shovel everything in my mouth at once.

"Hey, slow down. The food ain't gon' go nowhere."

"The food won't but my stomach will if I don't hurry up and fill it. I went back to eating and I made sure I ate everything on my plate. When I was finished I sat back in my chair and let out a contented sigh.

"I have never seen a girl eat that much in my life." It was one of his friends who said this. His name was Donovan, I think. He sat across from us and was looking at me in surprise, practically everyone of his friends at the table were looking at me the same way.

"I know whachu mean man. Girls these days would rather starve themselves than eat some real food. Eating all dem vegtables and shit." Said another, Tony.

I gave him a one sided smile.

"Well as you can see, I'm not one of those girls. I don't believe in such stupidness. Why kill yourself in order for someone to appreciate you, if they can't accept you the way you are then just forget 'em."

"You got that right, sitting over there looking sexy as hell."

"Hey, watch yo mouth Tony. You finna come up missin' if you don't." Said Jayquan harshly.

"Ma bad nigga, ma bad." He held up his hands in defence.

"So you two an item or something?" Asked Donovan.

"Yes."

"No."

We both said simultaneously. Of course Jayquan had to say yes. I turned towards him giving him a hard glare.

"No we are not an item." I didn't take my eyes from his as I answered Donovan's question.

Just then the bell rang interrupting our staring contest. I was the first to break eye contact, I couldn't take it anymore his gaze was too overwhelming.

"I guess I'll see you after school then." I said grabbing my bag while getting up.

"Yea, afta school." He replied still looking at me.

Without another word I rushed off to my locker to get the books for my next class.

Could I really be Jayquan's girlfriend, what if he finds out about who I really am or more like who I was? He would reject me, just like all the others did.

I can't let that happen to me again, some secrets are just best left untold.
