Chapter 8: Questions

~Lucy's POV~

Both of my eyes fluttered open from their slumber. I was surprised that my left eye lid opened. I stared at the blank ceiling, forgetting where I was. My head was oddly rising and falling from it's resting place. My body was really warm, and strangely comfortable.

The calm melody of a heart beat filled my ears. It sounded like a steady, consistent beat.

As I stared at the strange grey cotton underneath me, the memories slowly pieced together. My dad, the incident, and Natsu. I remember coming to Natsu's apartment, extremely vulnerable.

Wait, Natsu's apartment? I gently shifted my head to look where I was. A wave of pink came across my vision.

I was basically sleeping on top of Natsu!!

I had a small moment of panic, but I didn't want to wake him. I slowly looked down at my body. One of my legs was draped over Natsu's waist, which made me freak out even more. My hands were sprawled out across Natsu's chest. I didn't remove myself from him though.

I stared at Natsu's sleeping face. He was maybe the cutest sleeper I have ever seen. His mouth was slightly agape, his hair was messy, and his complexion looked completely clear. I continued to stare, soaking in as much of this image as I could. I secretly wished I could take a picture to use as blackmail in the future.

As if he noticed my staring, his breathing changed slightly. He moved his draped arm closer towards me.

"Lucy," he mumbled quietly. My ears easily picked up his slurred words.

He pushed me up against him making me extremely embarrassed. My body was fully pressed up against his side. His hand was placed on my lower back, which made my face go shockingly red.  I could feel the heat radiating off of my cheeks.

I needed to calm down; my heart beat was rapidly moving. I looked back up at Natsu's face, hoping that he didn't catch me blushing. Natsu's messy bed head instantly distracted me. His hair was sprawled out in every single direction.

I had the urge to touch it, so I graciously ran my fingers through his luscious, pink hair. A small smile appeared on Natsu's lips. He was obviously satisfied to be receiving a head massage. I started to laugh at his goofy reaction, which ultimately caused his eyes to sweep open.

At first he seemed confused to see me, but then started to blush. He had caught me red handed. Our faces were pretty close to each other. We both stared at each other with wide eyes.

He flinched and quickly removed his hand from my lower back. Noting his reaction, I simultaneously removed my draped leg from his waist. He sat up and scratched his head vigorously. As if his hair wasn't crazy enough, he shook his head.

"Sorry for that, I didn't mean to invade your space." Natsu said with an extremely sexy, groggy voice. I was still stunned to see his awakened face. I was blushing like crazy.

"N-no it's okay," I said showing him a smile. I sat up so that we were right beside each other. Natsu's hair covered his eyes, so I didn't see his final reaction. He finally looked over at me, which resulted in me looking down towards the black sheets over us.

"How're you feeling?" Natsu asked rubbing his face.

"I'm okay," I said timidly. To be honest, the back of my head was still throbbing slightly. I felt a little dizzy and nauseous, but nothing more than that. Natsu gave me an unconvinced look.

"No you're not." I was shocked by Natsu's attention to detail. It was as if he could read my thoughts. He lightly cupped my face with his hands. "Does your eye still hurt?" He asked slightly touching the swollen area around my eye. His onyx eyes closely examined my face, looking for any sort of reaction to his touch. A headache started to form at my temples.

"Not as much as yesterday," I said guiltily. Natsu's eyes showed worry. "I'll be fine Natsu, don't worry about me." I said grabbing his hand for reassurance.

"That's not possible," Natsu said bluntly. My cheeks instantly started to burn. I really wish I could control my sporadic blushing. Natsu looked at our hands touching. He started to move his thumb in small circles on the top of my hand. "You're pale Lucy," he said staring at my cream colored skin.

"Really?" I questioned bringing my free hand up to my forehead. My body did feel a little more hot than usual. "Huh," I said through a sigh.

"You need to take it easy today," Natsu said firmly. He stood up from the bed and walked towards the dresser. He swung his cotton sweater over his head, exposing his chest.

I couldn't help but sneak a look. His abs were beautifully sculpted, like a picture you would only see in a dream. I could see hard work and dedication through his health. I found myself closing my mouth before I realized that it had been open the entire time. I was drooling like a little school girl at the site of him.

All I could think about was that kiss last night. Some memories were blurry, but that one certainly wasn't. Questions swirled around my head at the thought, increasing my headache. Was Natsu really only trying to calm me down, or did he mean something different? Did he kiss me out of pity, out of guilt? I found myself zoning out of reality, and traveling to dream land.

"You're not allowed to watch the show for free Lucy," Natsu said noticing my staring. He sent me a smirk as he pulled a black shirt over his head. I grunted and looked in the other direction.

"I wasn't staring!" I whined childishly. I crossed my arms and pouted my lips. I'm sure he caught on to my terrible lying skills. I'm sure I was blushing as well.

"Whatever you say Blondie." A chuckle escaped his lips; his perfect, lovely lips. Ugh my head is going bonkers now. I can't stop thinking about that kiss. "I'm going to take a shower, you stay in here."

"Y-yea, sure." I said shyly. The idea of Natsu showering in the neighboring room frightened me. I couldn't complain though, he had given me a place to stay for the night. As he exited the room, my phone came to life. Sound escaped the little white device on the bed side table.

The tune leaving the speakers wasn't helping my head at all. I quickly swung my legs over the side of the bed and grabbed it. I stumbled a little traveling to Natsu's bedside table, but I managed. I looked at the caller ID and say that Levy was ringing me.

"Hello?" I said pressing the phone up to my ear.

"Lucy! Where are you? Did you sleep in or something?" At first, I was severely confused by her questions. Then I realized that today was a Thursday, and that I was missing school.

"U-uh," I stumbled quickly, not sure whether to tell Levy the truth or not. "No I didn't sleep in," I said confidently. I trusted Levy not to tell anyone what had happened last night.

"Oh, so what's wrong?" She asked with a tone of worry in her voice. I closed my eyes trying to erase the horror of last night.

"Something happened, I'll explain to you in more detail tomorrow. I'm not even home right now. I think I'm just going to take a mental health day today." I started playing with one of Natsu's shirts that was on top of his dresser. I brought it up to my nose curiously, it smelled like him.

"Okay," Levy said suspiciously. "Then where are you?" Another frightening decision crossed my mind. Should I tell Levy that I stayed over at Natsu's last night?

"Natsu's house," I mumbled as quickly as could. All I heard was the silent buzzing on the other end of Levy's phone.

"YOU DID WHAT?" She screamed unexpectedly. I took the phone away from my ear, caressing my broken eardrum in the process.

"I stayed at Natsu's last night, please don't tell anyone." I could hear Levy's breathing increase over the line.

"I knew you guys would be cute together!" Levy squealed like a little school girl. She had gone ballistic on the idea of planning our dates and wedding. I didn't really have the energy to stop her, so I just agreed with what ever she said. I placed my chin in my hand and leaned it against the dresser. I looked at myself through the mirror that was nailed on the wall.

The area around my left eye was purple, green, and yellow. It wasn't a pretty sight to see. How was I ever going to be able to cover that up? I don't have that much makeup.

"So did anything happen last night?" Levy questioned with a devious tone. I could imagine her smiling devilishly. I instantly sweat dropped. The kiss.

"W-we k-kissed?" The words stumbled out of my mouth, but they could easily be heard. Again, silence.

"OH MY GOSH," Levy screamed, hurting my eardrum for the second time this morning. I cringed at my how loud everything seemed. Normal sound shouldn't affect me this much.

"I don't know what it means though," I whined childishly. I was giving in to the basic teenager drama. "What if he was only kissing me to make me feel better?" I questioned nervously.

"No way!" Levy insisted confidently. "He kissed you because he wanted to. Have you talked to him about it since then?"

"No, we literally woke up five minutes ago." I stated, no filter running across my thoughts.

"We?" Levy questioned suspiciously. "You and Natsu slept in the same bed?! Natsu's been a very bad boy indeed." She said through a laugh. I couldn't help but feel embarrassed by my vulnerable actions.

"What do I do? Should I talk to him about it?" I asked while biting my nails nervously.

"Of course you should!" Levy cheered loudly. I was curious on what he thought.

"Alright I'll ask him." The idea scared me, I didn't even know what I would say.

"You have to tell me everything tomorrow at school. Promise?" She asked firmly.

"Yes I promise, now get back to class!" I mocked how a teacher would yell at us throughout the halls.

"Whatever," she said through a laugh. "Bye!" The call dropped and I held my cellphone to my chest. I swear my heart was going to beat out of my chest. I clutched the area where my heart should be and sat back down on the bed.

I looked around the room realizing that I was in a boys room. Natsu had a series of band posters on his  dark grey walls. He also had sketches that he had personally drawn. I knew he was a good artist, but some of these sketches were amazing.

A picture of a girl with short hair immediately caught my eye. I felt like I had seen her before, she just seemed so realistic. I brought my eyes away from the photo, jealousy filling my heart. Natsu just had a few dressers in his room, but other than that, nothing else occupied the little space.

Where was Natsu's child hood memories? Where were pictures of his family before death came knocking at their door? I wanted to ask, but refrained myself from that sensitive topic. I just had to ask him about that kiss.

What did it mean?
