Chapter 13: The Question

~Lucy's POV~

Mrs. Star gave us all a menacing glare as we cleaned up the lab. I physically couldn't look at her without shivering from fear. Her glare might even be scarier than Erza's! After about an hour, we were finally dismissed.

I received a few questioning looks as I left the school, but my black eye was almost gone. I guess the water from the sprinklers reduced its irritation. The chilly September wind hit my body as I stepped outside. My clothes were still pretty wet since the incident.

I shivered as I walked towards Natsu's apartment building. I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to stay warm. I started to pick up the pace as I saw the building. I rushed inside, the heat instantly hitting my face.

"It's pretty cold out there isn't?" Gildarts asked from behind the concierge desk. He had his feet up on the desk, leaning back in his chair nonchalantly.

"W-well i-it doesn't help that I'm all wet." I shivered, my teeth chattering in the process.

"Why are you all wet? You're gonna catch a cold out there." Gildarts stated as he continued to read his newspaper.

"There was an accident in the chemistry lab," I said as I shuffled over towards the elevator. I pressed the button repeativily, hoping this method would speed up the elevator's movements.

"Don't break my elevator kid," Gildarts stated bluntly as he ruffled his paper. I looked back at him with a guilty look in my eyes. His face contained no emotion, it was like a blank page.

"Sorry," I replied timidly, halting my actions. The tension in the room suddenly turned extremely thick and awkward. The noise produced by the elevator made me jump. I quickly stepped inside, the gold walls reflecting off of my body. I pressed Natsu's floor number and waited for the door to close.

"What are you to Natsu?" Guildarts suddenly asked, he was staring directly at me. His scruffy appearance did not calm my nerves. His red hair glistened from the chandelier hanging above him.

"I-,"the sliding of the metal doors cut me off. I tried to open the doors by pressing the specific button, but the elevator had already began to move. I let out a sigh as I moved closer towards my destination. After a minute or so, a ding sounded, signaling that I had made it to floor 18.

I walked over towards 18A's door, and knocked a few times. The sound echoed off of the hollowed wood. I heard Natsu undo the locks and open the door. His face continued to surprise me. He looked so calm, so content. His hair was a mess, his onxy eyes soft, and his jawline so sculpted.

"Hey Lucy," Natsu said as he opened the door for me to enter. I smiled as I saw him, walking through the doorway.

"Did you miss me?" I sarcastically joked as I took off my sneakers.

"Nah, I just missed some other Lucy." Natsu said through a smirk. I laughed as I placed my shoes next to the door. Dirt and water covered their light blue surface, making them look very rustic. I thought it would be a great camera shot for my scrapbook! I ran towards the kitchen and grabbed my camara that was conveniently placed on the island.

"I will always remember this day," I said through a laugh as I captured a shot of the dirty shoes. I tried a few different angels until I found one that fancied my taste.

"How was cleaning the chemistry lab?" He asked as his plopped himself down on the coach in the living room. He stared outside the window where the skyline appeared. Downtown really was beautiful from far away.

"Oh it was so much fun," I replied rolling my eyes. "I swear Mrs. Star was ready to cut all of our throats." Natsu laughed at my comment, bringing happiness to my heart. His laugh was contagious, making me giggle as well.

"Lucy?" Natsu suddenly asked.

"Yes?" I questioned, mocking his tone. I was a little caught off guard by his sudden seriousness, but remained calm. We really have been getting closer. We can both joke and be sarcastic towards each other, but also be serious when needed. We are two bright people that have evolved from darkness.

"Would-," Natsu suddenly paused, causing me to turn my head in his direction. I walked over towards him, a little terrified at what he had to say.

He was wearing a black and white scarf that he was using to cover his cheeks. Had he always had that scarf? He looked away from me, appearing to be shy. He was adorable when he was flustered.

"What is it Natsu?" I asked nervously, taking a seat next to him.

"Would you want to go out tonight?" Natsu asked as he regained his confidence. He turned towards me and grabbed my frigid hands. He flinched at the temperature, but continued to wait for my answer. I instantly blushed and looked at the material coating the couch. Normally I would joke when giving my answer, but I think he deserves a genuine and serious answer.

"Yes, I would love to." I said lifting my head and making eye contact with him. If I could have taken a picture to capture his reaction I would've. His eyes widened with excitement as he produced a toothy grin. I laughed at his cute reaction, surprised at how fast my heart was beating.

"Well I guess I should go get ready then. What's on the agenda for the night?" I asked, noting to pay extreme attention so I would know what to wear.

"Dinner and a movie?" Natsu suggested as he continued to warm my hands.

"Sounds great," I replied cheerfully. I unhooked myself from Natsu's grasp and walked towards the spare bathroom Natsu said I could use.

"Don't take too long getting ready," Natsu said as he stuck his tongue out at me.

"I won't," I stated as I returned the goofy favor. I headed to the spare bathroom and placed my hand over my chest. My heart was beating rapidly. A date? I had never been on a date before. What does one do? What does one wear?

I stripped, continuing to internally panic about all of the details of this date. I turned on the hot water, letting it ease my cloudy head. After I showered, I ran to the spare room where my stuff was located. I opened my suitcase which had been packed to the brim with all of my clothes and necessities. I started throwing clothes everywhere.

We were just going to the movies, so I can't wear something super fancy. Where are we going to dinner? I don't want to look under-dressed for dinner! I rubbed my head out frustration. After a few minutes of contemplating, I decided on an outfit. It consisted of black leggings, a pair combat boots, a red sweater, and my tan pea-coat just in case I got cold.

I quickly dried my hair with my hairdryer, making sure my gold locks remained silky. I applied a small amount of makeup to my face. I went for somewhat of a natural look with a pink lip. I checked myself out in the mirror one last time. I had to make sure everything was perfectly placed.

I ruffled down my sweater and let out a sigh. I couldn't believe I was making such a big deal out of this. I smiled and exited the spare bedroom.

"I thought you said you wouldn't take too long you dork." He teased as he examined my appearance.

"Uh!" I scoffed. "That was only like twenty minutes!" I complained punching him slightly. My nerves had vanished from before. He also looked quite nice. He was wearing a pair of jeans, a grey jumper, and his scarf that he had on earlier.

"Whatever you say Blondie," Natsu said as he opened the door for me.

"Thank you kind sir," I said as I passed through the doorway. Like little children, we competed to press the elevator button. I won, which resulted in him tickling me.

"S-Stop," I said in between breathes. I wiped a tear away from my eye out of laughter.

"Now I know your weak spot," Natsu said as he poked my stomach. I jumped from his touch, blush appearing on my cheeks. He smiled as we entered the elevator, I let him press the elevator button this time.

"Oh great," I replied sarcastically. I laughed as we started going down the elevator. "You're going to use that as a threat now aren't you?" I covered my stomach with my hands, protecting myself.

"You bet I will!" Natsu said as he ruffled my hair. I instantly flattened it down, hoping that it didn't look bad.

"I hope you didn't mess up my hair." I crossed my arms and pouted my lips at him.

"You look fine don't worry," Natsu said as he mocked my expression. We leaned into each other, both acting like children. We stared at each other, neither one of us giving up the act. The doors to the elevator finally opened, exposing us to the entire lobby.

I broke the concentration and looked towards the outside.

"I won!"Natsu said as he walked out of the elevator. He threw his hands into the air as a cry of victory. I balled up my fists and ran after him. I hate when I lose, especially to Natsu.

"Not fair!" I yelled as I caught up to him and Gildarts.

"Hey Gildart's," Natsu said as he did his little handshake thing with Gildarts.

"Sup? Bro we really need to get together to play this new game that just came out!" Gildarts said, completely ignoring my presence.

"Yea totally! Tomorrow?" Natsu was making plans before we even went on a date. Gildarts nodded as he finally noticed me. I sent him a small wave, smiling in the process.

"We can talk more later. You guys have fun tonight, be safe." Gildarts said as I took a step closer to Natsu. He smiled at me, signaling that everything was cool between us.

"We will," Natsu said as he threw his arm around my shoulder. I instantly started to blush. I tried to look anywhere but Gildarts. A little PDA was appropriate, but not much in my book.

"Please don't drink. I don't want to have to pick up your sorry ass later tonight." Gildarts stated sternly, his mouth looking very grim.

"We won't dad," Natsu replied casually. If I ever lost my dad, I don't think I could ever joke around that he was someone else. You're supposed to be 21 when drinking, but hey, we're teenagers.

"Bye Gildarts," I said as we headed towards the door. Natsu's arm was still around my shoulder. I could feel his body heat radiating off of his body. His closeness blocked out the cold that was trying to surround me.

We headed towards the parking garage where Natsu's motorcycle was. He handed me the spare helmet, snapping it around my neck in the process. He always took such good care of me.

"It might be a little chilly, so just hang on to me okay?" Natsu said as the motorcycle sprang to life. I nodded and did what I was told. I wrapped my arms around him, making sure I wouldn't fall off. We then started moving through the streets.

The night was going to be magical, i just knew it.
