Chapter 45

When I woke up, Drew was still asleep. Not for long though, as my dad decided to rise and shine and make breakfast at that point. My dad shuffled downstairs and I heard Luke and Christine waking up too. I heard my dad fill up and put on the coffee machine then walk to the lounge. He walked in and stopped short when he saw me lying on top of Drew in our Halloween costumes on the couch. I swear I saw at least five more hairs on his head turn grey instantly. He continued his goldfish impersonation until Christine called him.

"How about I make pancakes, James?"

My dad closed his mouth and, shooting me a look, shuffled back to the kitchen. I looked at Drew and he was biting his lip, trying not to laugh at the situation. I glared at him but felt a small grin form. Within a few seconds we were both howling with laughter but laughing into pillows so as not to attract attention. Just then Luke joined the party.

Grinning, he remarked, "Had fun last night?"

I threw a cushion at him as he dodged it, laughing.

"I'm just asking. Anyways, don't forget to use protection, kids," he said and winked.

I threw another cushion but he was already gone, chuckling. I made a mental note to strangle him later and turned to Drew. He leaned forward and kissed my forehead.

"Okay let's get breakfast, Princess," he said standing up.

We went into the kitchen and sat down at the table. Luke was already sitting down and I sat next to him with Drew on my other side. Christine put a pile of steaming pancakes down and my dad took over frying more. As Christine sat down next to Luke, she caught sight of me and Drew. And I must say, her goldfish impression rivaled my dad's.

"S-so Drew's here. Did you you stay over last night, dearie?" Christine asked.

Holy crap but I hate it when she talks to me and my friends like we're five.

"Yeah. We had a lot of fun last night," Drew said and winked at me.

Christine looked mildly thrown off and suddenly became very interested in the label of the syrup.

I gritted my teeth and whispered, "What do you think you're doing?"

"Nothing," he whispered back with a smirk.

I got up to pour the coffee for everyone. After adding the sugar and milk as appropriate, I placed the mugs in front of everyone. My dad had finished frying the batter and had placed another plate of steaming pancakes on the table. I handed him his coffee and went to sit down. As I sat down, Drew reached out a hand and gave my ass a slap.

Christine choked on her mouthful of pancake and my dad's eyes looked like they were going to pop out of their sockets. I glanced at Luke to see that he was turning a delicate shade of violet, trying to hold in his laughter. Drew himself was holding in his own load of laughter and I glared at my boyfriend and stepbrother. Then I continued to eat my breakfast as normally as possible and my dad and Christine followed suit.

After breakfast, I volunteered Drew and Luke to do the dishes while I cleared. My dad and Christine left to get dressed. With only two weeks to go until the wedding, they were spending more time than ever with each other. I left the boys to clean up and went take a shower as Christine and my dad left. I got dressed in this.

I had planning something for a while that I hadn't told a soul about. Not even Luke, Drew or Kat. Back in Sydney, I was a world-class graffiti artist. I hadn't really done much here in New Jersey and I missed it.

I grabbed my backpack and put in my spray cans. I grabbed a black baseball cap to hide my face and plain black hoodie and put the backpack and cap and hoodie by the door. I tiptoed to the lounge and saw the boys had set up the Xbox and we're playing FIFA. I knew this would occupy them for quite some time and slipped outside, grabbing my stuff by the door. I strolled to the massive parking lot two blocks away that no one ever used before mid-afternoon anyways. This was because there was a gentleman's club here and it never had customers this early in the day. However, after 16:00, there was a flood of customers therefore the need for such a huge parking lot.

I stopped just before it and slipped behind a bush. I took off my flannel and put it in my backpack and put on the hoodie and cap. I pulled the cap lower and stepped out from behind the bush. There was no one around. Perfect.

I set my backpack down, open, and took out a can. I began to work and within a half hour was finished.

I'd always wanted to do that. I packed up my cans and turned to go. Back behind the bush, I changed into my original outfit. I checked to see if the coast was clear and spotted a police officer. Shit.

Nothing for it. He had parked his car and his partner was waiting in it while he scoped out the area. It looked like the one in the car was napping. I would have to make a run for it. I jammed the baseball cap back on and legged it. I was almost clear when the cop turned around and saw me. He gave chase and I ran faster. I ran three blocks in the opposite direction of my house but the cop followed me and his buddy was chasing me in the car. I ran to the lake and grabbed a branch, hauling myself up the tree. I saw the cop stop below my branch and catch his breath. He looked around and scoped it out. After realising I had disappeared, he started walking away.

The cop had barely taken one step when the branch I was sitting on gave an ominous creak. He whipped his head up and saw me. I jumped down and tried to make a break for it but he grabbed my waist.

"Young lady, you are in deep trouble."
