I was paranoid and I could admit it. Every morning I checked my locker for traps and I always examined my desk before sitting down I didn't know what to expect or when to expect it.

On top of that, I still kind of felt bad for humiliating Drew. I knew he deserved it but the feeling of triumph was marred by a nagging inkling of guilt.

At least my squad was looking out for me. They never let me be alone and I even started walking home with Erin. Turns out that she lives a block away from me.

By lunch on Wednesday I was exhausted. Paranoia and nightmares do not make for an energised teen. I was sitting in the cafeteria with my mates when an announcement came over the intercom.

"Can Jay Wilde please see Mr Navarette in the music room before the end of lunch. Thank you."

Scarlett gave me a look. "Do want one of us to go with you?"

I shook my head. "Nah, I'll be fine. But I might not see you until last period if Mr Navarette keeps me long."

I strolled through the empty corridors to the stairwell at the back of the school. Then on the underground level was the music room. Mr Navarette was waiting at his desk.

All he wanted to discuss was me and Scarlett using the music room to practice after school. He said it would be okay as long as we ended before four. Thanking him for the use of the music room, I started towards my next class. It was on the underground level but on the other side of the school so I had to pass through the open gym locker section.

Suddenly, I heard the fire alarm go off. My instincts kicked in and I took of running to the stairs. As I passed the door to the bathrooms in blind panic to get out, a lean muscled arm reached out and pulled me in.

One arm pinned my arms down and the other was holding a hand over my mouth. I had never been more terrified in my life.

A sinister voice whispered in my ear, sending chills down my spine, "Ssshh. Don't worry. There's so no fire. Ssshh. Relax. I pulled the alarm."

I felt only slightly calmer knowing that there was no fire. The voice in my ear continued to calm me. The voice felt familiar but I was too sleepy to place it.

"That's right. Go to bed. Ssshh."

When I woke up, I was tied to an office chair and my face was itching. Probably cos someone had written on it in Sharpie. I had no shoes on and I had a pair of handcuffs hanging randomly off one wrist. I noted that I was in the principal's office.

A heard the sound of someone turning the doorknob and panicked. What were they going to think seeing a teenager tied to a chair in the principal's office with a pair of handcuffs?

I braced myself for the inevitable as the door opened. Two firemen walked in and when they saw me, they gaped. One of them sent the other to check the other offices while he went to untie me.

"If I may ask you, ma'am, how did you end up here?" he asked, trying (and failing) to keep a straight face.

"Um, I don't remember exactly," I said before a thought occurred to me. "Oh yeah. My boyfriend and his mates decided to play a prank on me because I fell asleep in class."

"That explains the obscenity on your face. And the handcuffs?"

"Look me up at a police station. I have a criminal record and a half," I say with a smirk.

The fireman finished untying me and told me to see Mr Rivers. I decided to first clean up my face at the bathroom. Then I went to the lockers and located Kat's locker. I knew her combination and I knew that she also kept a spare pair of shoes and a hoodie in there. The shoes were too small but I wasn't in any position to complain.

Mr Rivers looked ready to hug me when I showed up. Erin and Leah filled me in on what had happened. After I left to see Mr Navarette, the fire alarm went off. Everyone followed procedure and gathered on the football field. They took registration to see if anyone was missing and was the only one. The firemen had established that there was no fire and that it was probably some prankster. The staff and firemen checked the school to make sure everything was ok and that was when they found me.

"So what did actually happen to you?" Leah asked.

"I think I must have hit my head when I was running and passed out. I heard the alarm and ran," I lied.

I would tell them what really happened but first I needed to find out what really happened. And I think I know where to start.
