IVY
The cool water laps at my feet, fizzing and bubbling like brine. Even though the sun is beating on my back, beaming in my eyes, I can't help but smile as the wind caresses my face. I turned away from the ocean to find Brody sat on the beach, his eyes moving from sand to stone, from rock pools to breaking waves.
His eyes finally find my own and he smiled.
I started to walk towards him, feeling the sand against my toes, which was softly golden with just the right comforting warmth. I stop when I'm at the end of his towel, resting my arm on my forehead to shield my eyes from the sun.
"Why hello sir, I saw you watching me and thought I'd come and introduce myself,"
He stood up, stretching his hand out and I gently took it, "You are right I was watching you, I was thinking that you were the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen in my life,"
"My names Ivy but I have to tell you I don't think my partner will like you making advantages,"
He put his hands around my waist and pulled me towards him so our skin flushed together. Our lips were inches apart and I could feel the heat radiating from his chest. He spoke low, his voice a husky tone, "I'm sure he wouldn't mind,"
His lips brushed mine. Not innocently, like a tease but hot, fiery, passionate and demanding, "You drive me insane," He whispered slowly, prolonging each letter as if to savor them. His lips met mine again and I smiled against him. He lifted me in the air so I could wrap my legs around his waist as he guided me towards our beach hut. My hand worked their way around his body, feeling each crevasse, each line along with his perfect physique.
I felt myself fall back onto the bed, I couldn't even remember entering the hut. His hands ventured over the curve of my body, exploring, teasing and driving me insane. We pulled apart and opened our eyes staring deeply into each other's eyes. No words were spoken but so much was said.
Brody leaned forward and left a trail of soft kisses up and down my neck. I let out a little whimper of anticipation and longing. He worked his way back to my lips and as we kissed I rolled him over and lay on top of his strong, muscular body. I ran my hands across his skin and watched as he took a sharp intake of breath. I went to move lower so I was position on his boxers when the door to the hut swung open.
"Guys we've run out of ice in the-" One of the waiters at the bar stood frozen and cheeks flushed at the door.
We pulled apart and I ran my hands through my tangled hair, "Uh yeah okay we'll go buy some more at the store in a second," I said trying to not meet Brody's eye as he put on a shirt.
"Oh uh yeah okay imma just," They stuttered turning on their heel and disappearing around the corner. We waited a couple of seconds before turning to look at each other and bursting out into laughter.
It had been three and a half years since I watched my mom taken away in cuffs and thrown behind bars. Since Brody, Paul, Rose and I stood against a count and testified against her. It had felt like a weight had been lifted from all our shoulders, we could finally move on with our lives without one foot stuck in the past.
I'd visited my father's grave the day before after finally finding the courage to forgive him for what he did. After finding out he'd rather be without me than be without Eloise I'd resented him for a while but then I soon realized it had nothing to do with me, it was about him.
People do the craziest shit for the person they loved, look at my mom for example. I'd spent so long trying to rationalize her thoughts, trying to understand what made her believe that was her only option. But I never would because what my mom did was irrational, she was sick and now she was going to get the treatment behind bars like she deserved.
I'd never been whole again, not in a million years but each day regardless if they were big or small pieces they came back to me.
I'd lived with my aunt Tia, who taught me more love than my mom had in eighteen years of life. She reminded me of my dad and whenever she was near I always felt like he was beside her. I started to dance more, Tia had a shed in the garden that she allowed me to transform into a studio and I spent most of my time there.
I was no longer trapped in that living room, watching as my life tumbled and crashed before me.
For once I was able to take a deep breath and breathe.
I finished my senior year at a different school, I didn't make new friends, I didn't have to since I already had some waiting for me back home. I spent my weekends in the cabin with Brody, our little home. It was weird at first and his dad was his usual welcoming self but after a while, I finally saw that smile that I imagined made people fall in love with him, the smile he'd passed onto his son.
We'd brought a globe and each night we'd close our eyes, spin it and point to wherever drew us in the most. We'd created a list of all the places we'd go, when we'd go, what we'd see and how long we'd stay there. We kept it on a journey that I placed under my pillow and I'd go to sleep dreaming of the paradise I'd soon greet.
Graduation came sooner than expected. Brody had to turn down countless scholarships despite his dad's complaints but in a weird way, I think he didn't really mind. I came out with an average score and had the opportunity to retake my year but I didn't need to. I already knew where I was going and it wasn't the past.
Rose had gone to fashion school in New York and Ryan had applied to an apprenticeship course as an EMT. He had decided he wanted to be a Paramedic which was ironic since he hated the sight of gore.
I guess people changed and in a strange way it suited him. Ryan was kind and gentle. He would do the country and us proud.
We all kept in touch and had planned to see each other again in the near future.
Brody and I traveled and saw things we never thought we'd see. I saw the Opera House at Sydney Harbour, drank champagne at the shard in London, bathed elephants in Chiang Mai, ran down the streets of India decorated in paint celebrating Holi with the locals. I'd stood beside my best friend, held his hand and danced like no one was watching in a tropical storm. I'd captured every moment with a polaroid, kept it in a scrapbook so my kids could see and know there was more to life than a town with secrets and sorrow.
After travelling for two and a half years, we found a home in the waves and the sand. Brody's dad had given him money to buy a surf shack and bar situated on the edge of the beach in Alicante Spain and it came paired with a hut big enough to make our home. I'd found a job at one of the local hotels as a dancer for their nighttime entertainment and we'd been living here for a year. The street signs were in Spanish and so was the television but we'd adapted.
As long as we were together it didn't matter. We'd managed to get through everything that life had thrown at us and come out of it stronger.
The enclosed beach is silent. Untouched golden sand covers the floor as far as your eyes can see. Soothing, a gentle sea breeze rustled through my hair and I tucked it behind my ear. The smell of the salty sea rushed through my nose as I breathed in the fresh air. I pulled the blanket tighter around my shoulders, pressing my feet further into the sand and turned my attention to the fire in front of me. I watched as the flames came up to light the night sky and consumed us with a woody smell of smoke.
I could feel Brody staring at the side of my face so I glanced towards him. His sun-kissed skin was illuminated from the glow of the fire, he was so beautiful. His lips held firmly together as his whisky coloured eyes blended with the hew of orange and reds. We didn't speak for a while, both in the moment, both not wanting to break this feeling.
We'd just finished decorating and refurbishing the hut. It was a few days before it would be completed but the excitement had gotten the better of us. We'd built a bonfire on the beach, brought some blankets, food, and wine. We decided to sleep outside with the stairs.
I watched as a thought crossed Brody's features, it was for a second, but it was enough to cause his brows to scrunch together and his face to tense. Without a word, he stood up from his seat and made his way back to the hut. I stared at his retreating frame, confused and worried. I waited for a couple of minutes and was about to follow after him when I saw him reappear.
He walked towards me determined and strong. He stood just a few inches away from me, I could see a bead of sweat on his forehead and his hands shook at his sides.
"Are you ok-"
"Ivy I'll need you to stand up before I panic and pass out," He said, his lips twitching at the edge of his mouth. I watched him, scrutinizing his face, I'd never seen him this nervous before. he kept tugging at his shirt collar, sweating like a sauna. He tried to say something twice, except nothing came out.
"Okay," I said suspiciously, dropping the blanket to the ground and slowly standing to my feet.
I saw Brody pause and visibly gulp as his eyes raked over the dress I was wearing. It was a creamy silk dress, long and loose that slipped over my bronzed shoulder. I'd bought it in a boutique store in Italy and had yet to wear it.
"You look beautiful," He breathed and I watched as all the tension slowly left his body.
I tilted my head to the side, "Brody, what's wrong? Why do you need me to stand up?"
He looked at me and smiled, "Ivy," He began, "Remember when we were in kindergarten and I tried to make you eat sand so you kicked me in the balls?"
"Of course I do," I laughed, "How could I not? That's how our feud started. Why does it matter?"
"It matters because that day was the day I knew this girl was going to ruin my life, that she was going to steal my heart. I even told my mom when I'd got home,"
"You did?"
"Yes, and she told me that you were a keeper and no matter what happens to never let you go,"
I could feel my heart hammering in my chest as I looked into his open and loving eyes. He grabbed hold of my hand and ran his finger over my thumb. I looked down at our skins flushed together and felt my lips curl up into a smile that stretched across my face.
He continued, "You are the only person who knows me, the good and the ugly and accepts me for who I am. I don't want anyone else in my life other than you," His hand shook as he reached into his back pocket and pulled out a tiny blue velvet box, "Ivy Jones, I will love you forever like the sky loves the birds, like the moon loves the sun and the day loves the night, " He got down on one knee and I felt the tears start to well in my eyes. I covered my face with my hands as I watched him fiddle with the opening of the box. He finally pulled the lid back and I gasped.
It was breathtaking.
A heart-shaped emerald cut diamond on a white gold ring welcomed me with a unique and desirable look. My heart skipped a beat and I could feel the warmth consume me. I knew I was smiling, I couldn't stop.
"Ivy, will you marry me?" He asked and I didn't leave a moment of pause to respond.
"Yes, thousand times yes," I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him towards me. We leaned in a little closer, with our foreheads touching and I gently kissed his warms lips for what felt like forever. I pulled apart and took a shaky, shallow breath. He gently grabbed my hand and slipped the ring onto my wedding finger.
He looked at me and our eyes locked. He put a hand to my cheek and wiped away a tear that had escaped, "I love you Ivy Jones,"
"I love you Brody Jackson,"

Oh my gawd! This is the end... I'm so sad guys but it had to come to an end or else I'd keep writing for the rest of my life. As you all know, it's been a rollacoaster for me and my characters! Seven years and I've finally managed to find a happy place for these guys! I hope you enjoyed their journey! I will be going through and editing bits and fixing some plot holes and errors when I get the chance!
This isn't the end for me though as a writer, I briefly touched on the fact I'm writing a book called Me You & Winnie The Pooh, which will be up on my profile soon for you to check out! I'd be so thrilled if you could as I have loved writing for you guys and reading your comments and love. it's more on the comedic side, they'll be some drama and witty comments so do not worry! It will also be based in the same town and at the same high school just a few years later so watch out for mentions of BBB characters!
I'm also working on a story called The Broken Roads, which is story about an interracial relationship and the struggles of repression and racism. I'd love it if you could take a look and give me your thoughts.
Also, let me know what your thoughts have been on this story as a whole, what your best bits have been and your most shocking!
I love you guys so much and I'm so excited for the future!
Love D
xxxx
