"So...is that a yes?" Rose's lips spread across her face into a Cheshire grin.

I looked at her resisting the urge to curse and sighed, "Let's not get yes and maybe confused."

"We all know that maybe means yes," She shrugged, glancing at a couple of guys that passed. I rolled my eyes. She was like an animal on heat.

I stupidly allowed her puppy dog eyes to get to me and said that I might attend the party tomorrow night. I wanted to emphasize the might part. She tried to guilt-trip me into coming because a few years back I'd accidentally gave her a fish taco and she came out into a rash. I knew she'd hold that against me and use it as fuel one day.

It wasn't that I was against the party, just the thought of being in the same room as a specific someone did not appeal to me.

Especially when he's trying to get his hands down my best friend's pants like the letch, he was.

Rose stopped in her tracks, turned towards me and placed her hands on my shoulders, "Ivy, I love you but you need to stop acting like my grandma,"

"I'm not like your grandma," I defended, shrugging her hands off.

Besides Rose's grandma was pretty cool.

She gave me a look, "You are. I mean I caught you watching grand designs the other day. I saw on your phone you'd searched best knitting materials to buy and you think if you wear anti-ageing cream now it'll stop wrinkles,"

"You won't be laughing when my face is like a baby at the age of sixty," I pointed at her, "And your face resembles a Shar-Pei."

Her hands instantly went to her cheeks, "I will never allow that to happen, I will get Botox if I have to."

"Botox is deceitful," I shook my head at her.

"Anyways," She gave me a look that said I know what you are doing, "You need to start living a little, everyone our age is going to parties,"

"Mathletes aren't," I added and she rolled her eyes.

"Even the Mathletes are going to parties."

Dammit.

"Look, just think about it," She said and then completely contradicted herself, "I can't wait to get ready together tomorrow,"

I tried to reciprocate her excitement but came across as strained and awkward.

"We can use my new Morphe pallet," She brushed her hair over her shoulder, "You'll look great in nude shades,"

I had no idea what she was talking about so I just nodded.

"Anyway, I'll see you later," She waved her manicured hand in goodbye as we reached my Chemistry class. I forced a smile, despite the fact I felt the exact opposite.

I'd rather sleep than go to this party.

Oh, what have I gotten myself into?

"Frowning causes wrinkles you know," I felt warmth on the back of my neck and I turned towards Brody. He had obviously just heard our conversation and was taking a jab at me for the anti-ageing cream.

These peasants had no idea.

"Do not touch me. I have no idea where your hands have been," I took a large step back almost stumbling into the lockers.

He leaned forward, his lips curling up into a smirk "If you want to know where they've been, today a very pretty cheerleader allowed me to-"

Before he could finish that sentence I flung my hand out and covered his mouth in an attempt to shut him up.

I heard him muffle a laugh against my hand and instantly I felt something wet slide across my palm.

He licked me!

Disgusted, mortified and in shock I brought my hand back. I let out a string of curses and rubbed it aggressively against his t-shirt. My face was scrunched up, and I tried to ignore the feeling of his defined chest underneath the thin fabric.

"You are gross," I groaned pulling my hand back and looking down at it as I wondered how many germs were manifesting on my hand right now.

I needed bleach. Quick.

He watched me for a few moments biting his lip to stop the laughter.

"What?" I asked, shifting uncomfortably. His stare burned into my face and I had no idea what his devious mind was thinking.

His thick set of brows wiggled at me and his lips curled up into a smirk, "If you wanted to touch me you could have just asked, I know a free janitors closet not far from here,"

I preferred it when he was silent.

"I'd rather cut off a limb and hit you with it than hook up with you in a closet,"

He winked, "Sounds kinky,"

My face flushed red and he smiled in triumph at my reaction, "Are you feeling flustered Ivy?"

"No I am not," I said, but my cheeks were saying otherwise because they turned a crimson red.

How dare they betray me?

He pointed towards my face, "It's either really hot in here or you are lying,"

"It is actually, they must have turned the heating up today," I crossed my arms over my chest. A couple of students looked our way as they passed, well looked in Brody's way, I think there were only a few students at this school who actually knew my name.

Brody silently watched me for a couple of seconds before his face broke out into a smirk, "I think you are getting hot because of me, I think the idea of being alone makes you feel all sorts of things,"

"Yes it does actually," I said and his face fell. He didn't expect me to agree with him so I continued whilst I still had his focus, "It makes me feel murder, death, destruction..."

He relaxed and rolled his eyes, "You keep telling yourself that Poison,"

"Oh I will darling, I will," The sarcasm dripped from my mouth and I turned on my heels with the last word.

As I passed through the classroom, I could hear a deep chuckle resonating through the hallway.

If we were the last people on earth, I'd still not sleep with him.

*•*•*

Music blared through the speaker, the bass causing my body to vibrate in a way I was all too familiar with. I hadn't danced in a while, and it felt great to let my body run free from all my worries and stresses. My limbs and joints moved without restraint but not without control and precision. I had forgotten about the world for a while, and it didn't matter, nothing mattered at this moment. I let myself move freely for a while, increasing in pace to match along with the rhythm of the song.

After I'd finished the routine, I walked over and turned off the portable speaker grabbing my towel beside it and wiping the sweat off my forehead.

Every Thursday after school, I chose that as my time to practice dance. Seeing as there were no extra classes in the gymnasium on that day, Coach allowed me to use the space. It kept me fit and sane. I'd loved dance ever since I was a little girl and used to do classes on the weekend, that was until mom couldn't afford the bill anymore. I kept up with practice as a hobby rather than a profession.

I took a huge gulp from my water bottle and threw the empty bottle into the garbage can after I'd drained the contents. I turned on my heel and gasped, stumbling backwards when I realized I hadn't been alone. It took my brain a couple of seconds to register and my eyes narrowed when I realized who it was.

Leaning against the benches with his arms across his chest, his biceps bulging and his sun-kissed torso visible was Brody.

I mentally cursed.

I tried to divert my attention to his lips that were curled up into a smirk rather than the wet toned pack of abs facing me.

I'm human okay?

"What are you doing?" I bristled, slumping into an empty bleacher and attempting to focus on tying my shoes.

Don't look at his abs, don't look at his abs, don't look at his abs!

"Just chilling," He nonchalantly shrugged slumping into space beside me,  which caused me to groan in annoyance.

"Well can you chill somewhere else I'm busy," I muttered and nervously played with the thread on my socks. I could feel his eyes boring into my face and out of the corner of my eye, I saw them move down the profile of my body. I cursed under my breath when I remembered what I was wearing. Crop top and hot pants.

I got hot when I danced okay?

I quickly wrapped my arms around myself, attempting to pull down my shorts, which only drew more attention to them.

His lip twitched and a twinkle of amusement was in his eyes, "Who knew you could move like that,"

I cringed internally at the thought of Brody watching me dance. It wasn't the most graceful way of dancing if I'm honest with you. It was very suggestive, and I didn't need to give him ammo to tease me.

"Why are you shirtless?" My change of subject didn't go unnoticed, and he lips twitched.

"I  just had practice and a shower,"

"Right," I murmured and shifted uncomfortably under his stare.

"Do you always dance here?" He asked, curiosity and surprise laced in his features.

"Most of the time yes," I pushed my damp hair off my forehead, "I used to do it semi-professionally but now it's more of a hobby,"

"You're good at it," He gave me a genuine smile, the type that reached your eyes. His words resonated in my brain and I felt my eyes and mouth widen.

Did he just genuinely compliment me or was I hearing things?

"Thanks," My brows curved into a frown and my feet shifted in my stance. I snuck a quick glance towards the exit, expecting a group of his friends to barge in and laugh at his attempt of a prank.

"You should wear things like that more often," His lips curled up into a coy smile and I watched as he wiggled his eyebrows. I let out an aggravated breath and resisted the urge to roll my eyes.

Of course, he'd want half-naked girls walking around school.

Pervert.

"Not going to happen," I quipped, instantly getting to my feet. I began to walk past him but to my dismay, he swung his hand out and gripped hold of my wrist stopping me in my tracks.

I let out a sigh and slowly twisted my body to face him "What now?"

An emotion I couldn't detect flashed through his eyes, but it was gone instantly leaving an entertained look in its place.

"Why are you leaving so soon?" His touch burnt my wrist and I shrugged him off, discretely touching the warm patch with my fingers.

"Because I have to go home, " I said matter factly as if that was the only plausible answer.

Did this guy not have any brain cells whatsoever?

"But we've only just started having fun," A lopsided grin spread across his cheeks and his eyes slowly raked in my profile. He must have liked what he saw because he licked his bottom lip.

I groaned at his incompetence and started to walk away, "No, we have not in the slightest, this situation is extremely boring now if you'll excuse-"

"Are you going to Craig's?" He words came out rushed and I thought I might have imagined them for a second.

I paused as I was halfway down the steps and slowly turned towards him with an eyebrow raised. Why did it matter to him if I went? I scanned his face in search of my answer but found there was nothing but a blank canvas.

Maybe he was wondering if I was going to cock block him again with Rose.

I almost wanted to smile. You can count on that.

"I might be," I shrugged trying to play it cool and what he said next bewildered me.

"Good"
