Wounds (Hunter)

A/N: Sorry for the late upload. I've been a bit busy lately. There's a slightly bad wound in this one but it's not super gory. Just a small heads up if anyone's bothered by that sort of stuff.

You watched the sun set over a small village of Togruta, the citizens repairing their smoldering homes. Your medical bag was slung over your shoulder as the Bad Batch began to unload crates of supplies. The village had been attacked by Separatists and the Republic had sent aid. The 212th were dispatched to chase off the droids while Clone Force 99 was sent to guard the village. Some supplies were also sent to help the villagers recover. Judging by the destruction caused by the attack, it would be weeks before life would return to normal.

"Where do you want me to put this?" Wrecker's voice snapped you out of your thoughts and you looked at him. Your crate of medical supplies was hoisted on his shoulder.

"Bring it to the medical tent. It's right by the lake." You told him. He nodded and continued down the ramp. You swept your gaze over the village sadly. This particular village was peaceful. Why would the Separatists bring the war to them? With a sigh, you decided it was pointless to ask. You made your way to the medical tent and paused at the sight. There were so many wounded, both civilians and clones. You shook your head and continued. Wrecker set the crate in the middle of the tent with a heavy thud.

"Thank you, Wrecker." You said with a smile.

"Anytime!" He responded before making his way back to the ship to unload more supplies. You wasted no time in getting to work. You asked one of the other medics who was in most need of help and he directed you the right half of the tent. You knelt by a Togruta who's blood had already soaked through her bandages. Her breathing was weak and her vibrant colors were dull.

"Can you hear me?" You asked. She cracked her eyes open and looked at you.

"Y-yes." Her voice was strained. You frowned and pulled a fresh bottle of water from your bag.

"Here, have some water." You helped her sit up and tilted the water toward her lips. She could only manage to drink a little, but it was better than nothing. You checked her vitals before changing her bandages and moving on to the next patient. Before you knew it, the sun had bled away and lanterns were lit around the tent.

"Alright, now try to get some sleep." You said to the soldier beside you. You straightened up and made your way to your medical crate, restocking your bag.

"You should take a break. You've been working non-stop for hours." A voice called to you. You looked over to see one of the medics, a clone you weren't familiar with.

"I-I'm fine." You replied, just as your stomach growled. The medic raised an eyebrow and you blushed. He chuckled.

"I'll take over for you. Go grab a bite to eat." He said. You thanked him and walked off, cursing at your stomach for it's terrible timing. You stepped into the Marauder and grabbed some rations. Only Tech was on board, sitting in the cockpit and messing with his datapad. You looked around.

"Where are the others?" You asked.

"They went out to scout the surrounding terrain." He said without looking up from his work.

"Why didn't you go with them?"

"At least one of us has to stay behind in case of an ambush. Besides, I'm the best equipped to restore the village's communication systems. All I have left to do is transfer this data into their main processor and it should bring everything back online." He responded. You nodded like you understood what he was talking about as you took a bite of the ration pack.

"Tech, come in." Hunter's voice sounded from Tech's comlink. He pulled it out.

"I read you." He said, still not looking up from his datapad.

"We're on our way back to the village but we found signs of droid activity. Be on high alert." Hunter warned. You and Tech exchanged a glance.

"Got it." He said before getting to his feet and slipping his helmet on. He set his datapad down and stepped out of the ship to keep look-out. His eyes scanned the trees as the minutes stacked. Blaster fire made you both tense and you ran up.

"Tech?" You called to him. He narrowed his eyes and pulled out his comlink.

"Hunter, what's going on?" He asked.

"A scout patrol!" Said Hunter. "They're falling back to the village!" Tech drew his blaster just as a group of droids backed down the hill. Using the ship for cover, Tech fired at them, taking a few of them out.

"There's another one!" One of the droids shouted. A loud shout sounded as Wrecker tore through the trees, barreling toward them. He trampled a few of them, ripping the head off another as a few sniper blasts picked them off. Hunter leaped from the trees, driving his knife through the head of a droid and slicing down another. Your eyes widened while you watched them. They tore through the droids like they were nothing but sheet metal. But one droid, hidden in the tall grass, aimed down it's sights and pulled the trigger. The shot landed directly in Hunter's shoulder. He stumbled with a shout.

"Hunter!" You screamed. Crosshair jumped to his aid, taking the droid down in one shot to the head. As soon as the battle had begun, it was over. You ran out to them. Hunter got back up, breathing heavily. You were at his side in seconds, fixing your attention on the glowing bullet hole in his shoulder pad. You were hit with the distinct smell of burnt flesh. It didn't hit any vital spots but it would need to be patched.

"Come on, I'll fix you up." You said.

"I'm alright." He said. Your eyes widened.

"You got shot!" You exclaimed. He laughed but you could hear the pain in his voice.

"Trust me, I've put up with worse." You blinked at him, stunned. You couldn't believe what he was saying. While you were trying to figure out how to respond to that, Crosshair approached the group.

"For someone with enhanced senses, you aren't too perceptive." He taunted.

"Can it." Hunter growled before turning his attention to Tech. "Did you restore the communication systems?"

"I just have to transfer everything. It won't be long." Tech stated. You looked between them all. Was this normal?

"Good. Wrecker, tell Commander Cody about the scout patrol. I'll do a quick scan for any more clankers. Crosshair, you're with me." Hunter ordered.

"If you find any, save some for me!" Wrecker laughed before leaving. Tech made his way back into the ship to grab the datapad. Hunter was about to leave when you stepped in front of him.

"You can't be serious!" You exclaimed. "You aren't going back out there until you let me look at that injury."

"I told you, I'm fine." He said.

"I'll be the one who decides that." You responded.

"Look, I don't have time for this." He began with a clear tone of frustration. You shrunk a little at his voice and he paused. "I'll let you know if it causes me any problems. Right now, the safety of the village is our priority." He continued more calmly. He waited for you to argue but you turned your eyes away from him. Hunter motioned for Crosshair to follow him and set off to scout the forest. You knitted your brow as you were left on your own.

Hunter's eyes scanned the trees for any sign of battle droids but he kept finding his focus shifting to how you reacted to him. He felt guilt gnaw at his stomach. He shouldn't have spoken the way he did.

"See anything?" Crosshair asked, making him look up.

"No, everything's clear." Said Hunter. "Looks like that was the only patrol." On that note, they started back toward the village. Hunter lifted his arm to examine his knife when pain shot through his shoulder. He let out a grunt. Maybe a quick patch-up wasn't a bad idea now that the village was secure. As the buildings came into view, Wrecker greeted them from where he stood guard.

"Did ya find anything?" He asked

"No, sorry, Wrecker." Hunter said as Wrecker let out a disappointed groan. They entered the ship and Hunter looked around for you. He figured he should apologize for how he spoke to you but you were nowhere to be seen.

"She's asleep." Tech's voice made Hunter look up at the cockpit. His datapad was in his hands as always as he approached him. "She wanted to look at that injury of yours but it was getting late, so I told her to rest up." Hunter let out a sigh.

"Did you get the communication systems online?" He asked.

"Yes, all the downloads are complete." Tech answered. "And Commander Cody is on his way back. They were able to drive away the Seperatist forces and they will take over for us when they return."

"Got it. We'll keep an eye on the village for the rest of the night. Get some sleep Tech. You're flying tomorrow."

You saw the 212th ships fly in around midday to take over guard duty. Wrecker helped load your stuff back into the Marauder as Commander Cody and a jedi approached Hunter. You recognized the jedi as Master Kenobi. They exchanged a few words before Kenobi and Cody turned to leave and Hunter motioned for everyone to board the ship. As you entered, you kept looking at Hunter. His wound was bothering him. Even though he tried not to let it show, you could see how he avoided using that arm. Whenever he did, he would flinch. As Tech prepped the ship for takeoff, you gathered yourself to approach the Sergeant. He was sitting in the seat behind Tech, his arms crossed and his eyes closed. You wondered if you should wake him. He'd been up all night watching over the village.

"What is it?" He asked and you tensed.

"W-well, I was wondering if you would let me take a look at that injury." You said nervously. He let out a breath before opening his eyes and leaning up.

"Alright, but it's really not that bad." He said. You were a bit surprised, but you approached him and carefully removed his shoulder pad. Your eyes widened before you let out a sigh.

"How is this 'not that bad?'" You asked, looking it over. It was cauterized, but deep. It had to have burned all the way to the muscle. You worked on disinfecting it and wrapping the wound as silence settled between you two. Every now and then, you could sense him look at you.

"Is everything okay?" You asked him and he huffed.

"I, uh, wanted to apologize for... how I spoke yesterday." He said, his cheeks growing warm. You stared at him for a second before smiling.

"I forgive you. But-" You began, your voice becoming more stern. ",don't hide your injuries like this. The faster I can tend to them, the sooner they heal. I'm here to help you guys but you have to let me, okay?" He looked at you, a bit shocked at your tone, but he returned your smile.

"Got it."
