Chapter 1: Memory
My past...
Why can't I remember anything of my past?
My childhood, my parents...
Why can't I even remember about them?
Where do I come from...
It's just.. blank. I can't remember anything. My mind...
It's empty.

Who am I?

"Yo Dami! Are you awake? Breakfast is ready!" a man's voice came through Dami's bedroom door.
A slight movement under fluffy sheets stirred before a croaky voice replied. "Alright, Namjoon oppa," Dami grumbled. She hoisted herself up from her bed to walk out of her room. As she turned the corner, she can smell breakfast that Namjoon had prepared. She went to the dining table and sat down lazily while Namjoon was in the kitchen making coffee for himself and tea for Dami as she didn't drink coffee.
"Your tea is h-- Dami! How many times do I have to tell you!" Namjoon shouted at Dami, and covered his face. Dami's spoon halted halfway, mouth still chewing as she looked up at Namjoon.
"What?" Dami sputtered with her mouth full of food.
"I've told you countless times already, please put your clothes on!"
"I'm wearing a bra and panties, so I'm not fully-naked. What's wrong with that?"
"You're not a child anymore. You're 21 years old, you're already a woman and I'm a man," Namjoon pressed on.
"So what? You're my brother. Not a stranger."
"Shit! Why do I even-" Namjoon squeezed the bridge of his nose. "Put your clothes on or I will not let you eat your breakfast."
"Okay-okay! Damn, don't get your knickers in a twist," She muttered to herself and walked back to her room to put her clothes on.
Namjoon just stared at his coffee mug and thought about his problematic life with Dami. He played with his food with his fork, seeming like he lost his appetite.
"When am I gonna tell her that I'm not her brother..." he recalled the first time he meet Dami...
-------------------------
3 months ago, at night...
Namjoon ambled on the street with bruises and wound on his face after he fought with gangsters.
"Damn, I didn't know that bastard would bring his gang too. The caller didn't mention that the target I had to kill was a part of a gang. Now, my mission failed and I didn't get my money. Aish fuck!!" He scrubbed his hair harshly in frustration.
While he was walking back to his home, he stumbled upon a girl who was lying on a pile of garbage bags. Namjoon thought the girl must have been pissed drunk because he often saw a lot people in the same situation as her in the neighbourhood. So he turned away, and walked on back to his house.
Suddenly, he heard a barking noise and he turned around and saw that a dog was barking at the girl. He took a pole he saw on the road and ran back to the girl as he thought that the dog was going to attack her.
"Go away, you bitch!" Namjoon chased the dog as it ran away. He looked back at the girl who was still out after the commotion.
"Hey! wake up!" He shook the woman's body but she still wouldn't wake up. Her condition was pretty bad. He saw a wound on her head, bruising on her hands and also on her stomach judging on the slight lift of her top. He was hesitating as he didn't know who the girl was, but his gut was telling him to help her.
"Damn it," He made up his mind and decided to help the girl. He bent down to carry her on piggyback and proceeded to his house. As he arrived, he went inside and placed the unknown girl inside his room. He laid her down on the bed and carefully took her clothes off. Her body was covered with wounds, like she was fighting with somebody before she passed out. He carefully turned her to check her back and he saw a dreamcatcher tattoo right across her upper back.
'Is she from some part of a gang or what? Did she get attacked by other gangsters? Is she still alive? Why are all these questions stuck inside my fucking head?!' He shook his head and quickly grabbed the first aid kit from his desk and treated all the wounds on the girl's body.
After 2 hours full of becoming a doctor, he finally finished treating the girl but she still didn't wake up. He confirmed that she was not dead as Namjoon checked for her pulse the first thing before he began treating her. As it was completely imbecile of him if he was treating a dead body. Also because he was concerned most of the wound on her head that made her unconscious.
He checked her clothes and pants and he found her wallet. He flipped it open and the only thing that he found was her ID.
"Lee Yoobin, 7th March 1997. Seoul, South Korea. She's still 21 years old but how can she be like this?" Namjoon felt sympathy with the innocent girl who looked to be on the brink of life. The wounds she had was horrifyingly bad but she managed to pull through.
A few days past and the girl still hadn't woke up. Namjoon worried about her and kept thinking whether she was still alive or already dead. He didn't want to send her to the hospital because he was on the wanted list and the police was still around looking for him.
"Come on, wake up! How long do I have to wait for you to wake up?!" Namjoon spoke to the girl. He suddenly saw her fingers move a bit, as if she heard Namjoon telling her to wake up.
"I didn't know that would work," said Namjoon dumbfounded. The girl slowly opened her eyes but her eyesight was blurry as she was unconscious for too long. She kept blinking her eyes rapidly, and her sight became clearer as she looked straight at the ceiling.
"Girl, you okay?" asked Namjoon. She turned to look at Namjoon with her curious's face.
"W-where am I?"
"You're in my house, Yoobin."
"Y-yoobin? It's that my name?"
"You don't remember? Your parents must've given that name to you."
"M-my parents? Do I have a parents?"
"Shit, she must have lost her memory. What should I do now?" He thought as he didn't know what to do.
"Who are you?" Yoobin suddenly spoke up and asked Namjoon.
"I'm err... your brother. My name is Namjoon." He lied. He felt so stupid telling her that he was his brother.
"My brother?"
"Y-yeah."
"I don't remember anything. I'm sorry."
"I-it's okay."
"What happened to me? Why is my head bandaged?"
"You...umm...got into an accident. You sure that you don't remember anything?" Yoobin shook her head as she couldn't remember anything.
"Where are our parents?"
"They... already passed away since we were kids. It's only us in this house."
"Is my name Yoobin?"
"That's your nickname and mom always called you that. Your real name is... is... Dami. Your real name is Lee Dami and you're 21 years old." Namjoon changed her name. And right after that he made sure to get her, her new identity. Namjoon even asked someone professional to make a fake ID for her.
She was slowly recovering until she can start moving her body and able to walk easily. When she went to the kitchen to get a glass of water, she heard a gunshot sound from below house. She searched if there was any flight of stairs or secret door to the basement but she didn't find one and became scared.
Not long after, the gunshot stopped and she felt relieved not hearing the loud noises anymore. Suddenly, the bookcase in the living room slid open by itself and she jumped, fearing the worst. Then, she saw Namjoon coming out from the bookcase.
"Namjoon oppa? Where did you come from?"
"I was in the basement just now, why?"
"I heard gunshot sound in house. What are you doing down there?"
"Ouh that's... You know what, I think it's time you know about my work. Come on, let's go." He held Dami's hand and they went down to the basement. The bookcase slowly closed as they traveled down a narrow set of stairs. Finally reaching the basement, it was a huge space, more than 1000 square ft. than their house upstairs where it was just 700 square ft. big. She saw full armory of guns and weapons hanging on the wall and placed on the tables.
"What is this place?"
"This is where I practice my aim with guns, rifles, snipers and melee."
"So, the gunshot that I heard was from here? Can't people outside hear the noise?"
"Don't worry. This basement is sound proof. People from outside the house can't hear it."
"Did you kill someone?"
"Without any purpose? Of course not. I will kill somebody when someone calls and asks me to kill anyone they instructed me to. Kind of like a hitman," Namjoon shrugged.
"Why do you do this kind of job, Namjoon oppa?"
"I need money, Dami. If I succeed my mission, they will give thousands just for one head. If I don't get money, how am I gonna raise and feed you? All the money that I got for your medicine is from this job."
"B-but this is..."
"Wrong? I know but think about it. If we get a lot of money, we will live happily. We can get whatever we want. New house, new clothes, cars and bike, anything you want, you can get with lots of money."
"Anything... I want?"
"Yes, Dami. Anything you want."
"Then, I want to be like you. I want to be an assassin. Teach me how to become one."
"Eh? Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I want to help my brother to get more money to so we both can live happily together."
"You're so kind, Dami. Okay, so first I'm gonna teach you how to use a gun." Namjoon took the Glock 19 from the table.
"You see that body target over there? Aim at the head or slight right on the chest where the heart is." Namjoon showed a demonstration to Yoobin as she quickly covered her ears. Namjoon shoot at the chest which is right at the heart.
"Wow, but why didn't you shoot at the head.?"
"It's just a demo for you so you can learn how to aim at the target. It's hard to shoot at the head because it's a smaller target. I also miss the headshot sometimes and that's why I have to practice a lot. Now, it's your turn. Choose which gun you want."
Namjoon let Dami choose the guns. Her eyes roamed on the selection of guns available, deciding to pick one that would suit her best. Then, she chose a gun that she wanted.
"The Springfield XD huh? Why did you choose that?"
"Because the design looks cool and I feel comfortable when I hold it."
"You chose a perfect gun. It's designed to make an excellent sight radius that helps make this gun easier to shoot, especially at longer ranges. There's a section at the slide right behind the front sight has been removed. It's called a lightning cut and it reduces the weight of the gun."
"So, you also master of knowing weapons too. Nice."
"Come on, let's try your first shot." Dami stood at the line and held the gun, mimicking how Namjoon held one on the short demonstration, and pointed the gun at the target. Her hands were already shaking but Namjoon patted her shoulder to calm her down.
"Shoot at the heart first. Don't be nervous. Just calm down and--" Dami accidently pulled the trigger as she shot the gun. Namjoon jumped and looked back at the target. The shot didn't land at the chest at all but saw a small hole at the head.
"What the fuck?" Namjoon was out of words as he saw the shot.
"Sorry, I didn't shoot at the chest..." Dami felt sorry.
"Dami, you just did a headshot and that's awesome for your first shot."
"Really? You're not disappointed in me?"
"Why would I be disappointed? Do it again."
"Okay." Dami pointed at the target again and pulled the trigger. The shot dead on hit the head again.
"Oh my god! Dami, you're awesome!" Namjoon hugged her from behind as lifted her up.
"Oppa, it's hurt... " Dami groaned in pain. Namjoon quickly put her down.
"Ouh shit, sorry I forgot that you're still not fully healed. But, I'm so happy for you!"
"Really?"
"Yes. From now on we will work together as assassins. Like partners."
"Siblings partner. I won't let you down, Namjoon oppa." Dami swore to him and that was how Dami joined Namjoon's dirty work. When she started helping a person who she thought was her brother, to get money so they can live happily.
