SIX. stupid cupid!
TWO MONTHS had gone by and things had quickly changed in many people's lives.
Carly was being hated on by the entire internet due to Wes and Beau's new webshow in which they completely trashed her.
Freddie was able to get his app to go somewhere and hired a new person to work for him. Her name was Pearl Wallace, a doctor known for being a animal therapist.
And Alexa... still a multimillionaire, thriving, living her best life.
And the worst part of it all?
She was single.
Yeah, her and Freddie had their "little" kiss in the hotel and their "little" kiss in the God forsaken woods, but it was Alexa's decision to back away.
Until she was ready.
She wanted to feel like she could be herself with Freddie. Not the version that would fight and try to be someone she wasn't.
Did Alexa even hate Carly?
Yeah, she did, but it was like the petty high school shit that she kept close to her heart. So, it wasn't hate per se.
Regardless, she was the one who wanted to wait.
I mean, Freddie had been married twice. Could you really blame her for wanting to wait the dating game with him out?
But, that didn't matter right now.
Right now, it was Brother's Day for Spencer. Instead of celebrating Mother's Day, you know... because Carly was taken care by Spencer for her entire life it seems.
Currently, Alexa, Carly, Harper, Millicent, Freddie, and Freddie's new girlfriend, Pearl, sat around Spencer's apartment as he played the saxophone in a very poor manner.
Once he finished he faced the group with a smile.
"That was Carless Whisper by the innumerable George Michael." Spencer smiled.
"That's not what "innumerable" means." Millicent scoffed.
"Oh, yes, it is." Carly corrected, "On Brother's Day, we only say nice things to Spencer. So yes, that was definitely George Michael. Isn't that right, guys?"
The group gave a small chorus of "yeah's" and "innumerably's" as Spencer bowed towards them.
"You're a regular Kenny G." Freddie praised.
"Or a regular Craig Saunders." Harper giggled, "Y'all don't know him. We went to boarding school together. But he could shred on the sax. I went to boarding school."
"You know, my mom played Kenny G to me in the womb." Pearl smiled, "She read that playing smooth jazz to a baby in utero is supposed to make them come out gifted."
"That is the lamest fact I've ever heard. And I know Carly." Alexa smiled, sipping her drink.
Millicent looked up at Alexa with a smile, "Her mom probably gave her the gift of being lame."
The two of them shared a laugh before glancing over a Freddie who wasn't too amused.
Alexa soon scoffed and looked down at Millicent, "That was so not funny. I can't believe we were paid to say those untrue things."
"Be nice to Pearl." Freddie said, "'Cause she's my perfect little cupcake."
"You're my perfect little jellybean. We're the worst."
"The worst!" Freddie smiled.
"Yeah. You really do suck." Millicent said, standing from her chair and made her way towards the kitchen.
Freddie soon followed after. He stopped by Alexa's chair and pulled her up by her arm.
"If I spill my wine I'm going to kill you." She muttered and sat her glass down on the island.
"I thought you really liked Pearl. What changed, Milli Vanill?"
Millicent sighed, "Look, I only trust her as far as I can throw her, which is not very far because I'm 11 and she's at least 52."
Alexa chuckled and Freddie glanced over with slit eyes.
"She's funny." Alexa grunted and crossed her arms.
As Millicent stepped away, Freddie turned his attention towards Alexa.
"Can you at least be nice?"
"When have you ever known me to be nice to anyone I know?"
"I know, I know. But this is important to me, Alexa. Pearl makes me happy, and I don't want any drama between the two of you." Freddie said, his tone serious.
"Drama?" She scoffed, "You think I'm drama? I haven't been drama since I was 14... no matter what People Magazine says."
"I just want the two of you to get along. You're both very important to me." Freddie smiled softly.
Alexa sighed, rolling her eyes, "I will try, okay? But whatever you and Millicent have going on is between the two of you and if I laugh at her jokes you can not frown me for that."
Freddie smiled, "That's all I can ask for. Thank you, Alexa," He said, his gratitude evident in his voice.
The two of them fell into a comfortable silence, Freddie feeling grateful that Alexa was willing to put in the effort to be civil with Pearl. He knew that this wouldn't be an easy situation to navigate, but he was determined to make it work. After all, having both Alexa and Pearl in his life was important to him, and he didn't want to have to choose between them.
"Thank you all for being here." Spencer smiled, "And a special thanks to my girl Tootsie. It's just too bad she's only allowed out once a year."
"'Cause of my brass allergy. Ugh, so frustrating." Carly scoffed, "You're so talented! So, everyone, raise your OJ and beer "man-mosas". To Spencer. This drink is sweet and makes no sense. Just like you."
Spencer than went on a meaningless rant about how Carly practically soaked up any change of him finding his true love, which led her to set up a match marker for him.
Meanwhile, Alexa sat in her apartment with background music playing as she worked on her business.
"Guess who found the coolest fedora?" Freddie said, entering her apartment.
She turned, "Perry the Platypus with locks. I need to start locking my door."
"I wanted to make a cool entrance before confronting you."
"Do you work for Vanity Fair? Because I'm not doing a lie detector for you."
"Alexa."
She's sighed, rolling her eyes, and turned her chair fully around to face him.
"Did you pay someone to get information on Pearl and send it to my mom?"
"No." She smiled, "I sent it to Millicent."
"Why?"
"Because she asked and she knew I was able to get that information in 20 minutes."
"You're supposed to be nice."
"And I am. Trust me, I could do horrible things to people I don't like."
Freddie narrowed his eyes, "Why would Millicent ask you for information about Pearl?"
Alexa shrugged, "Maybe she was curious. Maybe she's trying to protect you from getting hurt? Who knows? But I can tell you for sure that I didn't do it to hurt Pearl."
"I don't know what to believe anymore, Alexa. Everyone seems to have an opinion about Pearl and no one's giving her a chance."
Alexa leaned forward in her chair, "Look, I get it. It's tough to have everyone talking about your girlfriend like that. But you need to trust yourself and your own judgment. Do you really care about Pearl?"
Freddie nodded, "Yes, I do. I care about her a lot."
"Then that's all that matters. Don't let other people's opinions sway you. And don't let them get to Pearl either. She's the one who's really affected by all of this."
Freddie sighed, "You're right. I just wish things weren't so complicated."
Alexa smiled, "Welcome to the world of relationships, Freddie. It's never easy. But if you really care about someone, it's worth it." She sighed, "Is that all you wanted to talk about or is that fedora story still on your mind?"
"Since you asked—"
"Sarcastically."
"Still telling it." He smiled.
They talked for a while and Freddie found himself feeling more relaxed around Alexa, like old times, and he realized that he still enjoyed her company.
But he also knew that he couldn't act on those feelings. He cared about Pearl too much to risk their relationship.
As they said their goodbyes, Freddie couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness. He knew that he would always have a special place in his heart for Alexa, but he also knew that he needed to focus on his current relationship.
As he walked out of Alexa's apartment, he took a deep breath and reminded himself that he had made the right choice. He was happy with Pearl, and that was what mattered most.
