FOURTEEN. maybe... ido
THE IDEA of marriage never really crossed Alexa's mind. She hadn't even imagined dating until she met Freddie.
For all of her life, it had been herself, Chase, and Della. The people she called family. Because that's all she knew.
But with Freddie, as gross as it was to her, she felt more at home than ever. He made her feel complete and loved in ways she never thought possible.
It almost scared her. She had never, ever seen a stable relationship in her life. Her parents were a no show all her life and the only two adult figures she had in her life were constantly dating, never settling down to be with anyone.
And though Alexa couldn't imagine herself getting married, she didn't hate it nor did she deny the fact that if she met the right person, she could settle down with him.
The only reason any of this was being discussed in her mind was because the wedding of Lewbert and Marissa was coming up very quickly.
Freddie, Alexa, Carly, and Harper were meeting with Ms. Benson's (Marissa) best friend Danica at the venue where the wedding was being held.
Out of the kind courtesy of her heart... and because she was dating her son, Alexa decided to help pay for the wedding. To her, it was like paying for a couple of CDs at the store.
"Just one question." Harper called, "Why are you wearing cargo shorts on your body?" Harper asked Danica.
"It's the maid of honor best Marissa made especially for me because I am her very best friend." She said, leaning towards Alexa and Carly.
Alexa gave a glance over at Carly before stepping away.
Freddie looked over, his brows furrowed as he made his way over to her.
"Hey, something wrong?" He asked.
Alexa sighed, "Do you really think your mom is going to love all this stuff? It's very... French."
"Marissa hate this?" Danica questioned, approaching the couple, "Wow, you don't know her at all. How embarrassing."
Soon, Millicent, Lewbert, and Marissa entered the building. Marissa gasping at the sight of the venue.
"Oh, my God." She sighed, "I hate this!"
"How embarrassing." Millicent muttered.
"What do you mean you hate it?" Danica asked, "You wanted "eating violets," I got violet candies. For "sparkling surfaces," twinkle lights. And for a "crimson glow," romantic red candles."
"Listen, if it were my wedding, and it should be for the price I'm paying..." Alexa sighed, "I think Ms. Benson's, "eating violets" meant to be plants to eat any of the bugs that may be in here. "Sparkling surfaces" are just clean areas in this places and of course, "crimson glow" are just indoor fireworks, which is insane because..."
"Lewbert is my sexy little firecracker." Marissa smiled.
"I snap, crackle, and pop for Marissa."
Freddie rolled his eyes. "A big wedding celebrates your love. And also saves me from having to sit in the front row of Magic Mike Live. It's a splash zone."
"Let's not forget about the officiant." Millicent said, "I took a 20-minute multiple choice online test to make you right with God."
"We can't get married somewhere this French. They let babies drink wine."
Soon, an argument arose between them and it only stopped when Alexa said she would fix it and decorate it tomorrow.
"Time to give this best to someone who actually deserves it." Marissa said. "Alexa, will you be my maid of honor?"
"Sure... but Danica can keep the vest."
"No, she brought filthy shame to this vest."
Alexa held the vest underneath her arm as everyone left the venue. She held her phone in her hands, texting various people about what she needed before looking up and seeing Freddie looking her way.
Alexa chuckled, looking at him, "What?"
"I just... I really appreciate you doing so much for my family."
Alexa smiled, "Don't worry so much about it." She paused, "Isn't this romantic though? I mean, I not fond of the idea, but you have to admit that this quite literally where two people start their lives together."
Alexa shoved her phone in her pocket, taking Freddie's hands.
"And the bride stands here and says something along the lines of, "I never expected to fall for you, but you were right there all along." And then the groom should be crying at the fact he's getting married in the first place and he'll be all like, "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."" Alexa smiled, "That's about right isn't it?"
Freddie smiled, "Yeah, I think so."
"Isn't it crazy that a whole new chapter of your life begins with a question?"
"Yeah."
Alexa looked up, "Anyway, I have to go buy four tanks of ammonia."
She quickly kissed him goodbye and went on her way.
She soon returned to the venue with the plants and the majority of what she needed to begin the decoration process.
Spencer said that he would willingly help her set everything up again.
"Hey, does your left hand feel naked?" Spencer asked.
"Does it look naked?" Alexa questioned, "Should I put my glove back on?"
"No. No, not-not a glove. Maybe a ring might help. And if so, would you want it to be, uh, princess, emerald, brilliant, old mine, pear?"
Alexa looked over, brows knit in confusion, "Spencer... you've always been weird, but never... this weird. Why are you asking me about proposals and this very inappropriate and inopportune time?"
"Because I'm quirky and unpredictable, like my psych evaluation said."
Alexa tiled her head and Spencer sighed.
"Because Freddie wants to propose! Isn't that exciting?"
"No!" She shouted.
It was just sudden. That's all the she was worried about. Truly, all her life she just wanted to settle, she just didn't know if that was with a person, life, or all of it combined.
Later that night, Alexa was still decorating for the venue when Spencer returned with more of the supplies and apparently the relationship status of her and Freddie.
"I talked to Freddie about the whole proposal thing— you have nothing to worry about. He's never, ever gonna propose to you."
Alexa furrowed her brows. Was that she really wanted though? It was just a lot to think about it the moment, especially when she was planning and fixing a wedding for someone else.
"You're saying that when I gave you all my dumb answers to all your dumb questions, you repeated all of them to my boyfriend?"
"Yes!"
"My marriage-obsessed boyfriend?"
"Not anymore."
Alexa sighed, resting her hand against her forehead, "I spent this whole weekend making this wedding perfect. I got into his mother's good graces, hell, I overheard that Millicent likes me for me and not my fame, and now Freddie think that I'd never marry him? This cannot get any worse!"
As she turned, her arm hit the lit candles and knocked the over. She struggled to catch them and they fell into the fireworks that Spencer had just brought in.
The two of them took cover as the fireworks went off around them. They slowly stood up to see the mess they had made around them, completely ruining the venue.
Soon, they began cleaning the place up.
"Freddie's not gonna leave you." Spencer reassured, "He just doesn't know if you two want the same thing, but I know you guys are endgame. Yeah, I'm on TikTok."
Alexa softly chuckled, throwing things into the trash can, "Yeah, we are endgame. I love Freddie and it's scary. I think... I know I want to be with him forever, but the idea of marriage just freaks me out. I mean, the big white dress. Everybody I care about in one room looking at me. Everyone but my parents."
Spencer looked over, "Are you sure you want to talk about this? 'Cause ever since I've known you, you haven't been open to talk about that."
"I don't think I was ever stressed out about Freddie or starting a family, I mean, I am, but not in that way. I'm more so stressed about the fact that I might repeat what my parents did to me onto someone I care about."
"Hey, I get it. Why do you think I've avoided marriage for a revolving door of emotionally unavailable, leggy women?"
"Your parent trauma sounds more fun than mine."
"Look, Alexa," Spencer chuckled, "there's a lot I may not know, like the capital of London."
"London's a city." Alexa quipped.
"But I do know..." He continued, "you are not your parents. You would never do to anyone what your parents did to you."
Alexa softly smiled, "Thank you, Spencer."
With that, the speedran to get the venue cleaned and finally, they had six hours until the wedding began and they had some help from Freddie to get the place looking nice.
"It took every last one of Mom's vacuums to clean up the mess." Freddie said, "Can I have some of your coffee?"
Alexa gave him a small smile before handing her drink to him. Spencer saluting off to get his own coffee.
"Are we okay?" Alexa asked Freddie.
"Are you okay?" He asked, "Because keeping track of how you're feeling has given me some real whiplash."
Alexa sighed, "I'm sorry for the mixed messages. I was just so caught up in the idea of... marriage."
"A disease I know well." He joked.
"The reality of what that meant sunk in.
"Yeah, okay. So what does that mean?" Freddie asked, "Why do you want, Alexa."
"I want you, Freddie." She reassured, "I am freaked about marriage and settling down but that's because I've really thought about until now and whatever my parents did to me. It's scary, but I know that I am so happy with you. And being with you makes me think about this stuff in a good and not so good way."
"Okay." He paused, taking her hands, "So you want to talk about it? The not good stuff?"
"I want to be able to tell you everything, because you're my person and you have been for years and I hope you'll always be."
"I'm not going anywhere. My plan is to be here any time you need me."
Soon, the wedding began... sorta of.
Danica came rushing into the venue with tears running down her face.
"Do you have, like, some news, or something?" Alexa asked.
"I got a text from Marissa. They ran off to Vegas for the high noon elopement of their dreams. The wedding is off."
"Guys," Millicent cried, "I've been looking forward to this all year. We have this place until 4:00, and I did not memorize all of Corinthians for nothing. So, does anyone here want to get married?"
Alexa and Freddie turned, only looking at each other.
But nothing else could be said or done two people walked into the venue.
Completely changing everything in Alexa's entire world.
