4. The Deadly Scent
Anamika falls unconscious, and Suhanika panics at the moment. She runs to her sister before she can fall, keeping her head on her knees. She begins to tap her cheek, calling out her name.
“Ana! Ana! Wake up, Ana! Kya hua?” she calls out impatiently.
“Isey kya hua? Isne kuch khaya nahi hai kya subah se?” Vineet asks, his tone filled with concern for the girl.
“She’s one adamant girl, mujhse baat toh karti hi nahi hain, upar se aisi harkatein, pata nahi kya hua achanak?” Suhanika speaks, her tone dejected yet filled with concern for her younger sibling.
“Anamika keh rahi thi ki usey koi strange smell aayi thi, par mujhe toh nahi aayi..” Nikhil informs.
Vineet and Suhanika try to find the source of the smell, but they couldn’t detect it either. Vineet suggests that they take Anamika to the hospital to get her treated. He also calls Dr. Salunkhe and Ruhana to reach Lifeline Hospital. After that, they lock the house and leave for the hospital.

At Lifeline Hospital, Suhanika is taken under treatment in the emergency ward. Meanwhile, Dr. Salunkhe is the first one to arrive and asks for Anamika. Vineet directs him to the emergency ward, where he meets the doctor and wishes to see the girl. He’s told that they’re still performing tests on Anamika and that he’d have to wait. The old doctor requests to see the girl, and upon examining her, he concludes that Anamika is infected with the same poison that caused the death of Inspector Rakesh Awasthi. He gets worried and asks the doctor to get her vitals tested. He leaves the emergency room and then makes a call to his friend, to whom he’s given the responsibility to find out about the poison. He’s shocked to hear the information given to him. When Vineet asks him, he tells that the rare toxin is Thallium, with which the ex-inspector was infected, and now, Anamika too. However, Anamika’s treatment gets started as per Dr. Salunkhe’s instructions. She’ll be given the necessary medicines, and the poison’s effect will reduce to none.
“Thallium? Isse kya hota hai, Sir? Anu thik toh ho jayegi na?” a worried Suhanika questions.
“Suhani, bache, sab thik ho jayega. Anamika ka treatment shuru ho gaya hai toh wo thik ho jayegi. Tum chinta mat karo. Lekin kuch waqt lagega,” Dr. Salunkhe tries to convince Suhanika, who just nods affirmatively.
For now, Suhanika can only pray for her sister. She is in good hands and under Dr. Salunkhe’s expert care. She has to trust her seniors. Meanwhile, the old doctor turns towards Vineet and the team and asks them to follow him to the forensic lab. However, Suhanika insists on staying in the hospital, but Ruhana asks her to come with them. Half-heartedly, Suhanika joins the team, leaving her sister in the hands of the expert doctors.
As the team discusses the deceased inspector’s case, they come to know that Rakesh had been investigating a high-profile case involving powerful figures, and his sudden demise was shrouded in mystery. Meanwhile, as they enter the forensic lab, they find Dr. Salunkhe and Dr. Tarika examining a few clues brought from Rakesh Awasthi’s case. As he catches sight of the team, he gazes at them.
“Mujhe Rakesh ke kapdon pe thallium ke traces mile hain. Ye humse pehle chhoot gaye they. Iska matlab hai khooni jo koi bhi hai wo Rakesh ke ghar gaya aur shayad wahin usey ye zeher diya gaya hai. Tabhi Anamika ko pata chala, baaki kisi ko nahi,” Dr. Salunkhe reasons.
“Aur ye jo koi bhi hai, usey Mr. Rakesh bahut achche se jaante they, tabhi toh wo ghar mein aa paaya,” Suhanika intervenes.
“Tum thik keh rahi ho. Shaayad tum logon ko Rakesh ji ke colleagues se baat karni chahiye. Shaayad wo kuch madad kar sakein,” Dr. Salunkhe advises.
“Aap thik keh rahe hain. Vo high-profile cases mein jude hue they, toh shayad koi criminal ne hi saazish ki hogi unko maarne ki,” Ruhana says, her tone firm yet determined.
“Toh hume unke colleagues se inquiry karni chahiye, police station aur music academy dono mein,” Vineet suggests.
“Haan, Vineet, tum colleagues se milo aur main aur Suhanika music academy jaate hain,” she agrees while looking at her team, and everyone agrees.
They thank Dr. Salunkhe and move out of the forensic lab. Suhanika expresses her desire to be near her sister, and Ruhana agrees. Soon, they divide into teams and head to their desired destinations. Ruhana, Suhanika, and Rajat reach the hospital where Suhanika insisted on staying near her sister, so Ruhana and Rajat leave her in the hospital and make their way straight to the music academy. Upon inquiring the staff at the academy, they come across a person whom they find suspicious. On the other hand, Vineet and the team uncover a secret which shocks them to the core. As they all assemble and meet in the bureau, they share the information and hope that it only takes them closer to the real murderer.

On the other hand, Anamika is shifted into a normal ward room. Suhanika has cleared all the formalities, and the doctor has told her that it will take some hours until Anamika wakes up. Suhanika is glad that her sister is fine. She sits near her, holding her hand. Her eyes are teary. For her, her sister means the world. She kisses Anamika’s knuckles.
“Mujhe pata hai tu mujhse naraaz hain, lekin aise saza mat de Ana. Uth jaa, please.”
“Chal thik hai, meri galti thi ki vo sab kuch hua, lekin tu kyun aise so rahi hain? Tujhe jitni ladai karni hain, kar lena, lekin please thik ho ja.”
“Main nahi reh sakti tere bina! Mumma-Papa ke baad ek tu hi toh hai meri family. Please Ana, wake up.”
Suhanika’s eyes are teary as she speaks. She feels her sister can hear her. Even though they’re not on speaking terms, Suhanika has always cared for her baby sister. Anamika is like a child to her, and right now, all she can do is pray for her well-being.
Suhanika doesn’t know when she fell asleep, but she feels Anamika’s hand grip hers, and her lips curve into a soft smile. Well, she can only hope for the best.
To Be Continued.
