#13. Bridging the Divide
Ruhana and Anamika reach the bureau, where they're greeted by Vineet and Purvi. Anamika gives them a small smile while Purvi embraces her, asking about her health. In that brief moment, Anamika realizes that she's an important part of her new team.
"Anamika, ab tum thik ho na?" Purvi asks, her tone concerned.
"Han, I am feeling much better," she responds with a smile.
"Good to hear that, Anamika. Vaise tumne humein dara hi diya tha. Vineet ne thik kaha tha tumhe achche se khana chahiye," Purvi says, her tone concerned for her friend.
"Han, ab se main dhyan rakhungi, aur vaise bhi Ruhana Di thi na mere sath, unhone bahut dhyan rakha mera," Anamika says, her heart feeling full as she glances at Ruhana.
"Ruhana ne tumhe zyada danta toh nahi na?" Vineet chimes in the conversation, his tone mischievous.
"Nahi, vo mujhe kyun daantegi?" Anamika rolls her eyes at him.
"Kyunki uska gussa bahut tez hai, tum usey thik se jaanti nahi ho. Vo pyar toh karti hai par uska gussa bahut kharab hai. Isliye main puch raha hoon, taaki usey samjha sakun," Vineet plays along, and it only makes Anamika and Purvi smile.
"Di aap par gussa karti hongi, lekin mujhe toh vo kuch nahi kehti hain. Aap chahe toh unse puch sakte hain," Anamika says, her tone soft.
"Achcha, toh phir usne jo bhi tumse kaha, tumhe uski baat maanni chahiye na," Vineet says as he watches her settle at her desk.
Anamika glances at Vineet, understanding the hidden meaning behind his words. He's again talking about her elder sister and wants her to reconcile. However, Anamika can't bring herself to forgive Suhanika. It's hard for her; maybe, this way, she's trying to cope with the loss of her parents. However, she fails to acknowledge that Suhanika is going through the same pain, and that, if they get together, the pain might lessen. Anamika looks at Vineet, his eyes still fixed on her, awaiting her response.
"Batao, Anamika. Jab Ruhana tumhe daant-ti nahi hai, toh phir jo wo kehti hai, tumhe maanna chahiye. Kya socha hai tumne?" he asks again, trying to get an answer from her.
"Mujhe kuch nahi sunna, aur na hi sochna hai. Aapko aur Di ko mera jawab pata hai, phir kyun wahi baat karte hain?" she asks, her tone blunt.
"Par sochna toh padega, Anamika. Aise kab tak tum Suhanika se naraaz rahogi? And I know isme uski koi galti nahi hai," Purvi says, her tone soft.
"Aap log maano ya na maano, galti toh Suhani Di ki hi hai. Aur mujhe abhi iss baare mein koi baat nahi karni hai," she says, her tone blunt, and there's a fiery gaze in her eyes.
"Anu, tujhe mujhse baat nahi karni hai toh mat kar. Lekin baaki sabse itne bure tareeke se baat kyun karti hai? Meri baat toh tu waise bhi nahi sunti hai, unki baat toh maan le. Aur chalo, maanni bhi nahi hai toh unko politely jawab toh de sakti hai na, ya wo manners bhi bhul gai hai?" Suhanika questions as she enters the bureau.
"Di, aap toh mujhe manners mat sikhao. Aap apna kaam hi karo, sabko bas meri hi galti dikhai deti hai, lekin jo hua...wo..." Anamika snaps at her sister, but she falls silent with Ruhana's stern voice.
"Enough! What is all this mess? Ye bureau hai, tum dono ka ghar nahi, jo yahan lad rahe ho, argue kar rahe ho. Mujhe ye sab bilkul pasand nahi hai, get back to work, aur haan, yahan sab ek dusre se politely baat karenge, we're team-mates. Kisi ek ka gussa dusre pe nikalna sahi nahi hai, Anamika, Suhanika, please maintain the decorum," Ruhana gazes at the two sisters, who lower their gazes.
"And yes, yahan sirf kaam ki baatein hongi, jisko jo bhi problem hai ghar jaake solve karein, please," Ruhana says, her tone firm yet soft.
Suhanika and Anamika glance at each other and turn away. Ruhana notices them from her cabin and sighs. Vineet walks into her cabin, leaving others to work. He takes his seat opposite her and reaches out to hold her hands. Feeling a warmth enveloping her, Ruhana allows herself to relax. She peers at him; his presence is comforting.
"Vineet, I am tired. Mujhe samajh mein nahi aaraha ki main in dono ke beech ki doori ko kaise kam karun?" she asks, her tone soft yet vulnerable.
"Ruhana, tum pehle shaant ho jao, aise pareshani mein koi faisla lena thik nahi hai, hum sochenge na kuch," Vineet says, his tone soft.
"Lekin kya? Mujhe toh kuch sujh nahi raha," Ruhana says, desperate to bridge the gap between Suhani and Anamika.
"Mere paas ek idea hai," Vineet says, his tone soft.
"Kya?" Ruhana asks eagerly.
"Suhanika aur Anamika dono ek dusre se baat nahi karna chahti, especially Anamika ko toh koi baat karni hi nahi hai. Vo kuch samajhna hi nahi chahti," Vineet says, glancing at her.
"Haan, tum thik keh rahe ho, Vineet, Suhani shayad meri baat samajh jaye, lekin Anamika ziddi hai, usey samjhana zaroori hai," Ruhana says.
"Toh tum ek kaam karo, Anamika se kaho ki jo bhi wo Suhanika se kehna chahti hai, wo ek letter mein likh de, aur Suhanika ko dede, isse uski frustration nikal jayegi," Vineet says, his demeanor thoughtful.
Ruhana tends to think for a moment and then her lips curve into a smile. Indeed, it's a good idea. This can be a good way for Anamika to vent out her anger, and this way, they'd be able to understand each other better. She looks at him gratefully, her smile telling him that she has liked the idea. Vineet smiles, and meanwhile, the landline on her desk rings. It's a case, surely. The idea implementation can wait for a little while.
To Be Continued.
