Chapter 3: Excursion!

A few days later, the eagerly awaited third-year excursion to Kyoto finally arrived. The morning air was crisp and invigorating, the sky painted in gentle shades of blue as the students gathered at the station, their excitement palpable.

The quintuplets had originally planned to sit together on the train, reminiscing and sharing stories during the journey. However, their children had other ideas. With a perfectly synchronized display of their greatest weapon—united puppy dog eyes—the quintuplets' resolve quickly crumbled.

Unable to resist their children's pleading expressions, each sister agreed to sit next to her child. The train was designed with comfort in mind, featuring rows of three seats on the right side and two seats on the left, each row behind the other. Fortunately, the seats could be adjusted to face each other, so the quintuplets quickly rearranged their seating to sit close together. They positioned themselves in a cozy configuration where each mother sat next to her child, forming a circle of sorts that allowed them to face one another.

As the train began to move, the rhythmic clatter of the tracks provided a soothing backdrop. Outside the window, the scenery gradually shifted from the bustling cityscape of Tokyo to the serene countryside, a mosaic of green fields and distant mountains. The interior of the train was filled with a warm, golden light from the morning sun, casting a gentle glow over the group.

Ichika and Aiko sat together, their heads close as they whispered and giggled. "Do you remember your first school trip, Mom?" Aiko asked, her dark blue eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Ichika smiled, her gaze distant as she recalled the memory. "Yes, I do. We went to the same place, Kyoto. It was magical. We got lost in the bamboo forest, and Futaro had to come find us."

A few seats away, Ren and Nino were deep in conversation. "Mom, why did you decide to let Dad tutor you?" Ren asked, his tone serious.

Nino sighed, leaning back in her seat. "At first, I hated the idea. But he was so determined and smart. Over time, I realized how much he cared about us, and how much we needed him."

Meanwhile, Sora and Yotsuba were eagerly looking out the window, pointing out interesting sights. "Look, Mom! There's a deer in that field!" Sora exclaimed, bouncing in his seat.

Yotsuba laughed, her energy matching her son's. "I see it, Sora! Kyoto is full of surprises. Just wait until we get to the temples."

Rina and Itsuki sat in quiet conversation, discussing their plans for the day. "I want to visit the historical museum," Rina said thoughtfully. "It's supposed to have an amazing collection of artifacts."

Itsuki nodded, her expression proud. "That sounds like a great idea, Rina. We can learn so much from the past."

Nino turned to her son, a mischievous grin on her lips and a glint in her eyes. Ren gulped nervously; he knew that look all too well.

"So, son of mine, tell me what is the future like?" Nino asked curiously, leaning in closer.

"Mama!" Ren hissed warningly. "You know I can't tell you anything! We've been over this already!"

Nino pouted angrily. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, something about destroying the flow of time or erasing your existence. Yada, yada, yada, I don't care!" she whined, crossing her arms.

Ren sighed, his shoulders sagging. "Well, I guess I could tell you some vague things..." he relented.

Nino's face lit up, and she hugged him tightly. "Yay! I knew you wouldn't let me down, Ren!"

Meanwhile, Ichika and Aiko were engaged in a quiet conversation. "Mom, do you ever miss acting?" Aiko asked, her dark blue eyes filled with curiosity.

Ichika smiled softly, brushing a strand of light pink hair behind her ear. "Sometimes, Aiko. But being with all of you is the best role I could ever play."

Aiko nodded, a warm smile spreading across her face. "I want to be just like you, Mom."

Across the aisle, Haru and Miku sat with their heads together, sharing a pair of headphones. They were listening to traditional Japanese music, something Haru had suggested to get them in the mood for their trip.

"Isn't this beautiful, Mom?" Haru asked, her dark pink hair falling over her shoulder as she turned to look at Miku.

Miku nodded, her gentle brown eyes reflecting the serene melody. "Yes, Haru. It's perfect."

As the train sped towards Kyoto, Futaro sat back, watching his family with a contented smile. Despite the challenges and mysteries they faced, he felt confident that together, they could handle anything.

The train's whistle blew, signaling their imminent arrival in Kyoto. The city’s skyline came into view, a mix of ancient temples and modern buildings that painted a vivid picture of its rich history and vibrant present.

The quintuplets and their children gathered their belongings, excitement bubbling up among them. As they stepped off the train, the crisp air filled their lungs, and the bustling energy of Kyoto embraced them.

The teachers instructed everyone to sit down on the station floor and took everyone's attendance.

"We'll have your large luggage taken to the hotel. Bring only your valuables," a teacher explained. "That's it for instructions. Dismissed."

As the students stood up, Nino's face registered a flash of surprise. Did she just hear the click of a camera? She looked around but couldn't see anything. Her sisters looked at her worriedly and confusedly.

"Is something wrong?" Itsuki asked.

"No, I think I just imagined it," Nino brushed off her concern.

Meanwhile, Ren was scanning the crowd suspiciously and turned to his half-siblings. "You heard that too, right?" he asked.

They each nodded.

"Yeah, like a camera click," Rina said, while Haru looked terrified.

Sora put an arm around her comfortingly. "Don't worry, sisters! Your big brothers will protect you!" Ren and Sora stood protectively around them.

"Oi! We're all the same age!" Aiko complained.

The group then moved through the crowded station, making their way towards the exit. Outside, the streets were alive with the colors and sounds of Kyoto. Cherry blossom trees lined the pathways, their pink petals dancing in the breeze.
