|The Burn|

"Jordan, stop!"

Jordan didn't listen as he kicked his door in, diving right into the flaming house without so much of a glance back. Sadie stopped the other two from going up the porch after him, pulling them back. "You two stay out here, and use some buckets to try and get the fire out!"

"It won't work! The flames are too strong!" Scarlet shouted.

"We have to try!" Briar cried. "Sadie, be careful!"

"I'll be fine!" Sadie shouted, even though she didn't really know if she would be. Trying not to think too much about it, she turned and sprinted up the stairs and through the burning doorway of their home. The smoke was so thick she could barely see her hand in front of her, and it irrtated her lungs and make her cough and gasp. She stumbled through the living room, dodging furniture by muscle memory. "Jordan!" She shouted. "Jordan, where are you?!" She didn't have long sleeves to breathe through, and she cursed her past self for giving her skin a crop top and overalls. What the hell had she been thinking?! Then again, she never thought she'd be sucked into this game! From now all, she was going to plan ahead for everything. If she ever got out of this, that is.

"Jordan!" He feet hit something and she went catering forward. Her chin struck something hard and her vision blurred as her jaw ached. As she pushed herself up, she realized she had found her way to the stairs. She scampered up them, being mindful of where she stepped as she saw pieces of wood beginning to collapse it on itself. Just as she reached the front, the lower half of the steps collapsed. She winced as she looked back, then sprinted down the hallway. "Jordan!" She screamed again, and her voice rang back to her. She noticed that the bedroom door was wide open. Since that was the only other place Jordan could go, she darted inside.

Through the smoke, she saw Jordan's figure. He was crouched in a corner, his back to her. "Jordan!" She shouted, waving her arms as she ran to try and clear the smoke. "Jordan!" She grabbed his shoulder, before she noticed he was hacking at the wood plank the corner with an ax. It broke and the block bounced up, absorbed by him, and revealing the chest bellow. Her eyes widened. Had that been there the entire time? They never noticed, but then again they weren't pulling up the floorboards.

Jordan yanked the chest open. She saw a bunch of papers which he picked up and let it absorb into him, placing it in his inventory. Sadie looked back as she heard something, and her eyes widen when she saw they had just lost most of the bedroom floor. "Jordan!" She grabbed his shoulder and yanked him back. "We have to go!"

"NO!"

Jordan dove forward, landing roughly on his chest as he shoved his hands into the chest. His hands wrapped around one last thing before Sadie yanked him back again, and sent them falling into the hole in the floor. The fire spread to where they had been moments before, eating away at the chest Jordan had been digging through moments before. When they hit the floor the fire seared into their skin and clothes and it was by pure willpower that Sadie pulled herself up. She grabbed Jordan and helped him up, trying to pat out the fire on his shoulders as he grabbed her hand and yanked her off the pile of burning wood.

The ceiling was collapsing, along with the second floor. As they sprinted toward the door they were dodging burning planks, and every breath they took filled their lungs with burning smoke. Jordan grabbed Sadie's arm and yanked her in front of him, and with a harsh shove he pushed her out of the house. She lost her footing and went tumbling down the porch steps. When she landed face down, she felt ice cold water pouring over her skin, putting out the flames on her clothes. She lifted her head, coughing and sputtering, blinking the water out of her eyes to see Scarlet standing over her with an empty bucket. Her eyes widened before she jolted up, stumbling as she held her left arm which had gotten most of the burns.

It took her a moment, but then she found Jordan. He was faced down on the grass. Briar was beside him, clutching an empty bucket. Her hand was laid gently on his shaking shoulder as she stared down at him worriedly, brown eyes wide and glistening with tears. Jordan's right arm was sprayed out beside him, and under his hand was a picture frame, burnt around the edges of the wood. She couldn't see the picture since it was face down. He had risked his life for a picture?

She looked at the picture and found she didn't care. She watched with Scarlet and Briar as the last bits of the house collapsed. Their home went down in front of them, and all they could hear was the burning fire and the soft sobs Jordan was letting out.
