After a long-awaited buildup, Maserati will finally be welcomed back to the Formula One grid in 2024. The driver lineup is confirmed and controversial, like all interesting things. The talk of the town has been the return of Bram Rynsburger, once a world champion and somehow a free agent for the past two seasons ─ but the controversy is rooted in his teammate, a female driver, one of the first in a long time. Gisela Ibáñez is riddled with a long history, but is adamant on proving herself worthy of this seat.

One of the many problems is her father, a man who is not often spoken of by name, a man who was four years into his lifelong stint of absent-fatherhood when the media, and his wife of two decades, found out about his affair (and the product of it). 2005 was not his year, and neither were any of the others that followed. Where Gerard Conway had once been an unenjoyable but tolerable and mildly successful Formula One driver, his reputation quickly crashed and burned, as did his popularity. He was shunned from nearly every corner of the racing world by 2007, but his name still haunts many things ─ most notably, the daughter he chose not to raise.

Another problem is that upon Gisela's entrance to Formula One, she will be faced with the immediate reality that one of her 21 new colleagues is her childhood friend and first love. Well, a better word would be former love. Four years together leaves its mark. This will not be fine.

to explain a little, gisela's daddy issues go crazy basically. "i think i heard her refer to you once as dead" -fernando to gerard 2024. but in the same topic, she also has a million role models bc people loooove her mom (very rich and a lifelong major sponsor for ferrari (gisela's a nepo baby)) and flocked to gisela and mentored her and stuff, hence the horse from mika hakkinen lmao. also because gerard was such an unpleasant person that his enemies felt the need to raise his daughter for him. yeesh.
