choice one.
"hyung, come on, you have to cheer up!" taehyung exclaimed, nudging yoongi's shoulder. the latter's eyes were glued to the lake in front of them, hands on his lap, mouth pressed into a thin line. the pair was sitting on a bench fit for the two of them, one sulking and one trying to keep the other from sulking.
"shut the fuck up, taehyung." yoongi's voice was blank. that was the only word left to describe it-- monotone and completely devoid of emotion as if somebody'd died.
but that wasn't the case.
somebody didn't die. or drown. or burn in a fire. the real reason was quite common, actually-- yoongi messed up. yesterday, his boyfriend (well, ex boyfriend) had broke up with him due to quite a big mistake from yoongi's side. yoongi couldn't blame him-- seriously, accidentally cheating on your boyfriend with his best friend isn't exactly something forgivable.
yoongi was stupid enough to believe that he'd forgive him, but he was obviously wrong. now, his ex wouldn't even talk to him. earlier today, he tried doing so at the cafe (where yoongi worked at, so it was easy enough that his ex often went there) but his ex merely ignored his existence, before walking out of the cafe in near tears.
it made yoongi's heart break. so, so much. he regrets it. he regrets it all-- except for his relationship with him, of course. he just wishes he could turn back time and redo all of his mistakes.
if only that were possible.
"it's not the end of th--"
yoongi turned to him with a glare and taehyung felt a chill run down his spine. "it's not the end of the world? is that it? sure, taehyung. it's not the end of the world, but it's the end of mine. he was my everything. and now he's gone and everything just feels so..." yoongi took a breath, leaning against the bench, "...empty."
taehyung gave him a look of genuine pity, patting him on the back, trying to comfort his best friend. he really did feel bad for the guy. yoongi was crying all night, and it wasn't until four in the morning did he actually fall asleep. taehyung wishes he could do something, but at this point, yoongi's ex was unforgiving.
taehyung's never been in a relationship, so he wouldn't know what it feels to quarrel with a lover, but from the aura that yoongi's letting out, it wasn't hard to tell what it felt like.
even taehyung started to feel sad.
as he sighed, his eyes trailed downwards, landing on a peculiar sight at yoongi's feet. taehyung tapped yoongi on the shoulder, pointing at the object. "hyung, look," he said, and yoongi did. the latter picked it up, examining it under his curios gaze.
"a yellow rose." yoongi mumbled.
taehyung hummed. "it usually means friendship. or, like, you know... if you give a person a yellow rose, it means you only want to have friendship with'em."
yoongi's mood only grew more sour as he frowned at the rose. "that's totally making me feel better, you piece of shit."
the younger laughed, patting yoongi on the back. "but hey, not much people know this, but it also means second chances! like, give it to someone after a quarrel to symbolize how you want a second chance."
yoongi laughed mockingly. "isnt that just fanfuckingtastic."
taehyung chuckled. "why not give it to him?"
"i wish i could," yoongi mumbled, his grip on the rose tightening. "actually, you know what i wish for? i wish i can go back and fix this. fix my mistakes. fix my relationship with him." he was glaring at the flower now, and taehyung just gripped his shoulder, a look of worry on his face.
"go on, hyung."
"i wi--" he stopped.
taehyung raised an eyebrow. "hyung?" he looked at yoongi, who was blinking continuously.
yoongi's vision started to blur, a sudden pain in his head occurring, feeling as if the world around him started to spin. well, his head was spinning. his hands were stiff, chest feeling like it was burning, and suddenly he's too dizzy-- he feels as if he'll fall over and--
"...taehyung..."
"hyung?! hyung, what's wrong?"
everything started to fade, the last figure in his vision being taehyung's shadow looking over him, worriedly.
"hyung?! hyung!"
"hyung! hyu..."
"taehyung..."
"...taehyung..."
"...taehyung."
"...taehyung!"
yoongi opened his eyes, standing upright, "taehyung?!" he yelled, startling the boy in front of him. taehyung. "taehyung, what happened--"
taehyung looked at him weirdly. "hyung, you okay? i think you, like, blacked out for a millisecond or something. are you feeling bad? should i call hoseok hyung to excuse you from your shift? are you oka--"
upon blinking several times, yoongi realizes two things.
1) he's in his apron. his work apron. the clothes he'd been wearing seconds ago were no longer here. he was now wearing jeans and a black shirt, instead of jeans and a white shirt covered in tears.
and 2) he was no longer in the park. he was now at the cafe he worked at. taehyung was still here, but he was standing in front of the counter, where yoongi stood behind. right behind the cashier in fact. his job. as a barista / cashier.
but why?
he briefly took in the scent of coffee in the air, looking around. it seemed like a normal day today. a day in which the cafe was slightly filled with customers, but not too much. it was a particularly sunny outside, too.
nothing out of the ordinary.
well, not for yoongi.
"what happened? we were at the park just now, and--"
"park?" taehyung questioned in an amused tone. "are you being serious? dude, we never go to the park unless we're sad or some shit."
"but... but i just had a breakup with my boyfriend?"
taehyung stared at him incredulously, before bursting into a fit of laughter, his arms gripping at his stomach, leaning forward on the counter to continue laughing hysterically. a few customers looked their direction with either grins or glares, but yoongi just stood there, eyeing his best friend as if he were insane.
truth is, in this situation, yoongi's the insane one.
"taehyung, why are you laughing?"
"how can i not?" taehyung let out another small laugh, before standing upright, wiping the exaggerated tears out of the corner of his eyes. "you? min yoongi? boyfriend?"
"what's wrong with that, i just had a breakup and you're not being very helpful--"
taehyung looked at yoongi, a serious expression suddenly across his face. yoongi gulped. "yoongi. you've been single for life, you piece of shit. don't kid around. just stop. is this some kind of plot to make me feel bad about my empty love life? don't forget, you've never had one in the first place!"
"what are you.." yoongi stopped. "wait, what date is it today?"
taehyung gave him an odd look. "14th of december. duh."
yoongi froze. no way, he thinks, it was around may a few seconds ago... his heart races as he starts to untie his apron.
"anyway, back to the topic," taehyung said, clearing his throat and looking around the cafe. "are you going to join us later at the nightclub, or not--" he turned to yoongi and at the same time, heard
who was no longer there.
leaning over the counter, he expected yoongi to have been crouching to surprise the younger or something like that-- but all he saw was yoongi's green apron on the floor.
"...yoongi hyung..." he mumbled.
— — —
yoongi ran.
as fast as he could.
to the only place he knew where it all could've started.
the park.
panting, he stood next to the familiar bench, trying to catch his breath, eyes frantically looking around. it was the same as it was a few minutes ago, only now, the grass was slightly shorter. and there was no yellow rose to be found.
but something else was there.
more like someone.
"fancy seeing you here."
a voice startled yoongi as the latter jumped, eyes quickly averting towards the bench, where he saw a young man sitting there. he was wearing something quite simple-- ripped jeans and a slightly oversized yellow shirt with sleeves that hung till his elbows. he had slightly dark brown hair, messy, but he still looked good-- yoongi had to admit.
wait no. you have a boyfriend.
yoongi winced.
ex boyfriend, actually...
"i don't believe we've met." yoongi spoke, voice unsure of whether or not he should even be speaking to the stranger.
the latter smiled. "actually, we did. you know, that grip hurt," the stranger let out a low whistle, "be more careful next time, alright?"
yoongi frowned. "nope. not remembering anything. i never gripped you. who the hell are you, anyway?"
"my name is jeongguk."
"okay, jeongguk," yoongi slowly said, "i still don't remember you."
jeongguk rolled his eyes, pointing at his yellow shirt. "not ringing any bells?"
yoongi just stared at jeongguk's shirt, shaking his head 'no.' "nope. not even one."
jeongguk sighed, standing up, walking over a bit to yoongi and crossing his arms. "i'm the yellow rose!"
yoongi stared. opened his mouth. closed it. and stared.
"what."
jeongguk nodded his head. "yah! i'm being serious, if you think i'm crazy."
"you're crazy."
jeongguk groaned. "you asked for it." he said, raising his hand, making yoongi recoil, thinking that the boy was going to hit him. instead, jeongguk snapped his fingers.
yoongi swore he wasn't high.
upon the snap of his fingers, words appeared in front of yoongi. several words, actually. they were floating in midair-- the sight was too impossible to believe. yoongi raised his arms, trying to swipe them away as if they were flies, but he hit nothing. yoongi stared in disbelief and looked at jeongguk for answers.
"hey, don't do that," jeongguk whined, looking around for anyone who could be staring at them as if they were insane. "these people can't see the letters, you know!"
yoongi looked at him with a curious look. "can they see you?"
"yeah, at the moment." jeongguk answered, playing with the tips of his hair. "i'm not that mean." he chuckled, pointing towards the words. "go ahead. pick one."
yoongi stared at the letters. the words.
》 BELIEVE HIM
OR
DON'T BELIEVE HIM《
"what the fuck." yoongi mumbled. he looked at jeongguk. "how am i supposed to choose? and what happens when i choose? why are you-- no, what are you? can you just tell me before i get myself into this serious shit?"
jeongguk jumped excitedly, "oh my god, i love introducing myself! okay, okay," he stood straight, clearing his throat. "okay. i'm jeon jeongguk. physically 19 years old! but, as you know, i'm a yellow rose. so i've been here for a while. you could say i'm immortal. but that's another story for later." he winked. "do you remember what yellow roses mean?"
yoongi rolled his eyes. this was starting to sound like a kids' educational tv show. "friendship or something. friendzones? second chances?"
jeongguk's eyes twinkled. "bingo!" he exclaimed. "second chances! now, since i am a yellow rose, i offer..." he gestured towards yoongi, urging the older to continue his sentence.
"you offer... second chances?" yoongi asked, unsure. jeongguk gave him a thumbs up, and then something inside yoongi clicked all of a sudden. "wait, so you're here to give me a second chance? with my ex?"
jeongguk nodded continuously. "yeah!" he then gestured towards the words floating in midair. "now, about these. since i'm sort of like a guy who only offers second chances, i guess you're supposed to control your own choices through this second chance." he scratched the back of his head. "but since i'm nice, i'll be helping you out. i'll give you two choices every time something major happens. keep in mind, i'm here because i've seen all the things in your previous relationship, so i'm here to fix the parts you've messed up! i'll give you suggestions and such, but don't let that get in the way of your final decisions."
yoongi frowned. "so, can other people see you?"
jeongguk shrugged, humming. "again, they can never see the choices. but for my appearance, i can choose who can and can't see me." he smiled. "but you'll always be able to see me, though. if i want you too... ah, whatever."
"great. another annoying piece of shit added to my life."
jeongguk let out a small gasp. "yoongi, you're mean! you should be thankful i'm giving you a second chance."
"that's yoongi hyung to you."
jeongguk crossed his arms. "whatever! now, go. choose!"
yoongi let out a small chuckle, looking towards the choices. he thought of option number one, and almost immediately, the other words disappeared, besides the choice he'd thought of.
》BELIEVE HIM《
after a few seconds, even those words disappeared, turning into thin air as if they were never there in the first place. yoongi turned towards jeongguk, who was smiling mischievously.
somehow, yoongi's mouth automatically opened. "i believe you," his eyes widened. it didn't stop there. it was his own voice, but it was as if he wasn't the one thinking of the words to say, "and you are the best. you are the greatest at everything, oh, jeongguk, you handsome man."
jeongguk giggled. "thank you!"
yoongi glared at him. "yah! what'd you do, you little--"
"keep in mind, after a decision has been chosen, it can't be redone. i don't have time machine powers. i only let you start again from the very beginning because you messed up a lot before you actually cheated on him." jeongguk laughed, earning a frown from yoongi. "also, if you don't say anything for a while, i'll help you out, too. i can make you say stuff."
"i won't fucking allow it if you make me say shit like that--"
"don't worry, i just did that for fun. i genuinely want to help you." jeongguk gave him a reassuring look.
yoongi stared at him with narrow eyes. "okay. fine."
jeongguk grinned, clasping his hands together. "okay. now, let's go! you have a nightclub thing to get ready for."
