"Up, up, up your Highness," one of Merida's servants told her. "You have little time to prepare."

"Yeah...sure... Wait, what!?" Merida asked and sprung up. "I overslept?"

"Unfortunately, yes, however, there is still food at the table for you. Everyone else is almost done though," she informed her.

"Were we really up until that late?" Merida asked herself before grabbing her favorite dress.

"I'm sorry Princess, but her Majesty requested that I help get you ready for the festival that will start in about an hour's time," the servant intervened and put the dress up.

"The festival, it's today, how could I have forgotten ?" Merida groaned.

"The Queen would like you to wear this dress," her servant got out a beautiful blue dress with blue vine-like designs in the front.

"Well, it does look pretty," Merida mused.

"And about your hair, The Queen acknowledges your dread towards having your hair tucked away, and proposes a compromise," the servant quickly explained once she saw Merida about to protest.

"And what would that be?" Merida asked curiously.

"She proposed forming two small braids from some of your hair in the front and having it tied at the back," the servant replied and demonstrated on her own hair.

"Alright, I can live with that," Merida agreed.

"Very well, now, we really must hurry if you are to eat before the ceremony. Not to mention before you give your speech," the maid reminded her while helping Merida dress.

"What speech?" Merida asked in a panic.

"The speech the Queen gave you the day the Vikings arrived," the maid told her.

Her mom had in fact given her a piece of paper on that day, but Merida was too excited to even hear what her mother had told her about the paper. While her maid went to find a better lace for her corset, she quickly looked through her belongings in order to find the paper. She made a bit of a mess but managed to find it. Her maid came back and finished preparing her for the festival while Merida quickly scanned through the speech in order to get the main idea of it all.

"There you go, Princess," the maid said with pride.

"Thank ye, I'll be off now," Merida said before quickly running off to catch up with everyone else.

"Sorry, I'm late!" Merida exclaimed once she opened up the dining room doors.

She looked around and saw that only the Vikings, the Lords' families, excluding the two younger ones, Graeme and Lillias, and her parents were there. The rest of the clans and even her brothers were gone.

"Merida," her Mother started in a tone of voice Merida had become accustomed to.

"Princesses are always on time, never yell, and never pant," Merida finished her Mother's lecture while heading towards the young adult table in a rather graceful walk. "And they don't interrupt."

Her Mother gave her a smile before continuing on with her conversation.

"Princess, do you mind telling us why we had to get all dressed up?" Tuffnut asked as he pointed to himself in disgust.

Merida then noticed that they were dressed in formal Scottish attire mixed with Viking attire. They still wore their helmets and armor, but they also had on plaid highland tartans. Hiccup and the rest of the guys had short belted plaids on. Astrid, Heather, and Ruffnut wore dresses, but Merida could tell they weren't wearing corsets by the way they moved so easily.

"Yeah, why were we forced to wear skirts?" Eret asked.

"It's actually called a kilt," Kirsteen MacIntosh quietly corrected him.

"And it's rude to ask the reason for wearing it, just so you know. I'm not trying to sound rude, I'm just warning you," Catriona added.

"Today is the festival I mentioned beforehand, where young adults will meet and have fun with the intention of starting a courtship," Merida explained.

"And what if you're already betrothed to someone?" Astrid asked.

"You get to enjoy the activities," Ryan replied.

"Guys, I've been thinking, there is obviously still some uncertainties between us, which is understandable seeing as we've only known each other for a day," Hiccup started to explain.

"What makes you say that?" Ruffnut asked him.

Hiccup signaled to the middle of the table where, if not for Merida and Ryan, there would have been a gap in between the Vikings and Scots.

"So, I was thinking that we could all split up into groups for the festival," he replied.

"Yeah, we can split into groups with at least one Viking and one Scot each," Merida added.

"Doesn't sound so bad," the rest murmured in agreement.

"Should we choose or draw for it?" Merida asked.

"Let's draw and leave it to fate," Catriona Dingwall replied.

"Alright, everyone write your name down on your napkin and then crumble it up so your name doesn't show. We'll divide it by Scots and Vikings and pick out 4 groups of 4 people each," Merida explained.

"That sounds fair," Boyd agreed and asked a servant for quills.

The servant did as he was told and brought 6 quills with ink. Everyone took turns using them to write their names down. Then, Merida emptied out two bread baskets and used them to mix up the two groups' names.

"Now, let's see who will be in each group," Hiccup declared.

He, Astrid, Merida, and Ryan were the ones who grabbed from the baskets since they were the ones in the middle of the table. They opened up the napkins and called out the names. The first group was Aileas MacGuffin, Snotlout, Heather, and Callum MacGuffin. The second group consisted of Hiccup, Merida, Ryan MacIntosh, and Tuffnut. The third group was Boyd Dingwall, Iseabail Dingwall, Fishlegs, and Ruffnut. The final group was Eret, Catriona Dingwall, Kirsteen MacIntosh, and Astrid.

"Will my group please wait for me? I need to introduce the festival," Merida asked.

"Of course," Hiccup replied.

Ryan nodded and Tuffnut just shrugged. They made sure everyone knew who each person in their group was, but just as they were about to leave Queen Elinor and Lord MacIntosh walked over.

"Merida, have you seen your brothers?" Elinor asked her daughter.

"No, did they not come down?" Merida asked.

"Yes, I saw them earlier, which is what I'm afraid of," Elinor replied.

"Have you seen your brother and sister?" Lord MacIntosh asked his kids.

They both shook their heads.

"They still need to get ready. I'll have Maudie and a few others look for them. They usually don't leave the castle grounds," the Queen told Lord MacIntosh who nodded in understanding.

"If those five get together who knows how much of the castle will still be intact by the end of the day," Ryan commented.

"Aye, they cause trouble wherever they go," Merida agreed.

"Tuffnut, Ruffnut, if you see them do not approach them, okay?" Hiccup told the twins.

"What? Why are you telling us and not everyone else?" Tuffnut asked him.

"Because you two are the ones who always cause trouble," Astrid reminded them.

"Right," Ruffnut agreed like she had just remembered.

"We should get going. I hope everyone has fun, remember that we won't be the only young adults there," Merida told them.

They got into their groups and started to walk out when Hiccup's group was stopped by the Queen.

"Hiccup, as the Chief of Berk and the first ever group of Vikings to be formally invited to this festival, I would like for you to introduce yourself before Merida goes on stage," Queen Elinor asked him.

"I'd be happy to Your Majesty," Hiccup replied.

"Perfect, the opening ceremony will begin shortly. In the meantime you can prepare what you're going to say," the Queen smiled.

"Your Majesty, do you mind if we take our dragons out?" Hiccup asked before she could leave.

"Well, as long as you introduce them, so as to not cause panic, I don't see why not," the Queen replied.

"Thank you," Hiccup responded.

"You sure you can do that speech thingy?" Tuffnut asked him.

"Yeah, I've talked in Berk many times, what's the difference?" Hiccup asked.

The four pushed the outer doors open to see hundreds and hundreds of people scattered around the castle grounds.

"Dun-du-duuun, I'm dead," Hiccup commented.
