Chapter 1

It was a somber night, or it was supposed to be but the boys were hard at work..against each other. Bruce thought it would be a good idea in his defense, a simple easy mission to try and teach them "team work." It's been harder and harder for him to control them and he was getting tired of the constant bickering between them, and finally had enough when they started causing physical harm to one another.

In Damians defense though Jason did bring up his mother in a very derogatory way. Besides Dick thought it was a great idea for the boys to try and get along more, it would make his babysitting much easier.

So he sent them to try and track down the joker, he knew of course the joker wasn't there, he wasn't a fool sending the kids off to take down the joker on their own would be suicide. Yet he figured telling them the joker was there would give them a little extra motivation to work together.

Which brings us to where the boys were now, smack down on the docks of Gotham City in a dusty old broken down warehouse. They were all stationed in different areas of the warehouse, it took a lot of disagreements but they finally all agreed on the spots they chose.

Damian was upon one of the wooden beams near the roof of the warehouse, to help get a better scope of what was happening in the area. The highgrounds were his favourite.

Not far from Damian on the bottom floor of the warehouse was Tim, he decided on hiding behind the gigantic crates and next to him sat Jason, who was evidently looking out for any suspicious behavior ahead of them. They all sat in the silence waiting for any signs of.. anything.

Jason was the first to break the dismal silence and tension between them, "this is lame." he said with extra volume to make sure Damian could hear him from up on the beam.

Tim looked up over at him as he finished typing in a quick report to Bruce, "Yeah well maybe if Dick was leading this mission it wouldn't be so bad"
"What is that supposed to mean exactly, shrimp?" Jason bitterly responded.

"It means your leadership skills are most unimpressive Todd" Damian called down, already annoyed with the extra noise

"You're one to talk brat, you almost got us killed the last time we went-" Jason was shut up by a loud bang from the other side of the warehouse. Damain and Tim also stopped bickering when the bang went off.

It was followed by silence.

Tim spoke up, "I've been doing research on this place and I think it's a wild goose chase, there's no signs of the Joker in this area at all what if Batman-"

"Shut up Drake" Damian cut him off jumping down abruptly from the beam causing Jason to stand up more stiff confused at what he was doing.

"If there's no Joker then what's this" he pointed towards the tiny box on the floor. It was surprisingly small but looked like it was made from some type of metal, nothing they've seen before. Before Damian could attempt to lift it Tim carelessly ran over and slapped his hand away.

"Drake! What was that for!?" he growled, Tim shook his head, "We don't know what it is you demon, it could be dangerous" Damain wanted to argue more and as much as he dreaded to admit it Drake was correct, the object could possibly be dangerous. "Then what do we-"

Jason trauted over and lifted it up before either boy could complain, "How could something like this be dangerous, It's a box!" he taunted. "You guys are going crazy from being around that old man to much"

"Jason put that down we don't know what it is yet- we should call Batman and-" Tim tried to reason but Jason stuck a finger in his face and waved it vigorously "Now now don't go calling daddy yet, we can do this on our own"

"Tt I agree we don't need to call father everytime something happens" Damain crossed his arms glaring at the small computer hologram Tim has been typing at like a dog the entire mission reporting to Batman about every little thing they did.

Offended, Tim quickly turned it off and turned to Jason, "Fine then what do you! suggest we do with it"

"I don't know, I didn't think a goody two shoes like you would even agree" he responded, the red in Tims face only darkened.

"I am not a 'goody two shoes,' I'm just more mature than you two"

Now that one made Damian mad and by the way Jason's hands raised up in defense he was too.
"As if!" they scrwabled at the same time

"Fine then Timmy, if you're not a 'goody two shoes' like you say you are, I dare you to turn this creepy thing on" waving the small box in his arms. Tim rolled his eyes. "And why exactly would I ever agree to something like that?"
"You wouldn't cause you're just such an angel" Damian teased pretending to be uninterested in Todd's childish behavior.

"I know what you two are trying to do and it won't work! I refuse to stoop to your.. levels" Tim putting extra emphasis on levels in reference to Damians height responded grudgingly.

"Tch Drake if you won't figure it out then I will" Damian yelped grabbing the device from Jason's hands. Tim finally woke up and tried taking the device away from Damian.
"Stop it! You'll just mess it up" he snatched it from Damian and held it up in the air away from him. Jason laughed at the interaction as Damian only got angrier.
"No I won't!" he yelled back.

"Ladies ladies, let the oldest brother handle this" Jason took to grabbing the device as well when Tim was caught off guard.
"Jason, you're going to break it!" he argued. "Haha! That's what you think short stuff- Damian stop trying to grab it off of me!"
"Shut up Todd I can do whatever I want!"

The boys were now all attempting to take the object for themselves, latching onto a side of the device and pulling hard towards themselves, in hindsight they should've expected something to go wrong.
The device started to burn and as quickly as it was tossed around it was thrown to the ground, flashing a bright blue.
"Shit what did we do?!" Jason scawlbed.
"Language!" TIm responded, oblivious to the danger they were in.
This caught Damian and Jasons attention and they giggled at Tim whose face flushed red with embarrassment. The blue flashing is still going off in the background.

Damian tried to pick it back up again but the heat burned through his left glove causing him to flinch backwards away from it and crash into the other two boys, who now saw the danger they were in.
Jason managed out a single "Uh oh" and grabbed both Tim and Damian away from the device, pushing them behind him, the light got so bright he couldn't even see if he managed to get them there. Once he was sure he was grabbing onto Damians hood and Tims shoulders he closed his eyes to help himself from not being blinded by the light.

"What did we do?" Tim mumbled, Jason guessed he also closed his eyes as to why he was asking. "Well, we obviously broke it" the brat responded, Jason grumbled and took his arm away from his hood and covered his eyes with his hand, "Todd-!"
Before Damian could protest, the light grew bigger and flashed more colors than before, loud beeping and banging irradiated from it.

Then there was silence.

-

With the beeping stopped, Jason peeked open his eyes, he saw the flashing stopped and removed his hand from Damian's eyes and Tims shoulder. "What happened?" he muttered, blinking and rubbing the pain from the previous light from his eyes.

Damian stood up and looked over at the tiny box, it looked like it did before, and nothing around them has drastically changed either. "I don't know but everything looks..normal?" It sounded like he was questioning himself by the end but before he could get out another word Tim stepped up to look at the box as well.

"Now can we call Bats?" he asked passive aggressively, arms on his sides glaring at the tiny box. Damian ignored the question and walked over to the box, he tapped it just to be sure it wouldn't burn him again and surprisingly picked it up. "Hey it's cold now"

Jason nodded at Damian, "We don't need to call nothing happened, besides we can just go back now and tell Grayson what happened, we didn't even find the Joker"
"I forgot that's why we came here" Tim replied, "fine then let's just get out of here before anything else happens"

Damian chucked the device into his pocket and followed behind the two taller boys. They all definitely saw the differences now. The past broken down warehouse now looked brand new, freshly painted even.

"Oh no, maybe we did do something" Jason said as they reached the outside of the warehouse and could finally see the even bigger differences. Compared to their old surroundings everything looked brand new, not a dust particle in sight. "Maybe the device fixed the warehouse?" Tim questioned.

Before they could figure out what had exactly happened and process their thoughts, gunshots went off in the distance, or at least they think those were gunshots.
"We should check that out" Tim commanded, Jason surprisingly didn't argue. "Yeah, maybe Bats was right and the joker actually is there-" he eyed Damian and walked over to him, taking the device from his pocket.
"I think I'm going to be holding onto this for now"
"Tt whatever" he grumbled, crossing his arms.

"Alright now let's go check out those gunshots" Tim started forward ahead of the two, who quickly followed behind in realization.

When reaching the area of the gunshots, Jason quickly grabbed both of his brother's capes and bullied them back behind a few of the larger crates in the area to help give them cover. There in front of them the boys saw three older men talking amongst themselves unaware of the extra company, however they were too far away for any of them to make out exactly what they were saying.

"Yeah once those brats show up we can ambush them" one of the taller men stated with a cocky attitude.

"You sure they're even gonna show up?" the man next to him asked, skeptical. TIm was curious about who exactly they were referring to but before he could even begin to think about that the cocky dude responded.

"Of course they are, you think the real heroes would go through the trouble of taking us down?"
"If you say so, we have everything right?" the oldest looking man questioned and in response his two colleagues nodded, "Good, with these weapons those brats don't stand a chance! You could wipe out a town with this junk"

Whatever that man was saying Jason didn't like the look in his eyes and turned to his brothers, who also looked just as questioning.

"Who do you think he's talking about?" Damian asked, obviously referring to the term brats the man had been abusing.

"Maybe he was talking about us?" Tim shrugged, that was enough for Jason and he pointed his finger up at the two boys. "On my count okay?"

Damian relaxed his hand over his katana by his side and Tim went to pull out a few smoke bombs to at least try and give them cover like the darkness wasn't enough already. And like the rule breaker Jason is, he pulled out a nice shiny pistol which earned him a disapproving look from Tim, "Why'd you even bring that-" he tried to argue but Jason shut him up by starting the count.

"one, two, thr-.."

There was a loud bang, a gunshot had gone off from behind them, that surprisingly wasn't from Jason's own gun. The men were about to jump scattered and yelling was heard in the distance. This wasn't going to go as smoothly as Jason had hoped he sighed.
