CHAPTER 10
"So Sev, this is Ginny Summers, my new friend. Ginny, this is Severus Snape, my bestfriend and my childhood friend." Lily introduced Ginny to Snape.
Snape (or should we call Severus?) smiled at Ginny. Ginny was momentarily frozen of shock. Whether it was due to watching her most hated Potions master as a teenager, or because he actually smiled, or because he was quite good looking as a teenager, or because he seemed actually nice.... Ginny couldn't work out.
"H-h-hello." Ginny stuttered. She lightly shook hands with him.
"So Sev, I think you have Double Potions as well. So lets go." They walked to the Potions class. As they entered, Lily whispered to Ginny, "Do you mind if I sit with Sev for this class?" Ginny shook her head "Go on." Lily went to sit with Severus and sat in a front bench. Ginny found a seat behind some rows. The seat besides her was still unoccupied. She heard a confusion at the door. She turned and saw James, Sirius and Remus. Pettigrew was no where to be seen.
"Ahh, The seat besides Evans is taken by Snivellus! Race you two to the seat behind her." James said abruptly and ran. Sirius ran after him. They both settled in a seat behind Lily. Remus rolled his eyes and headed towards Ginny.
"Mind if I sit here?" Remus asked Ginny. "Feel free." she answered and made space for him.
Remus sat down and extended his hand "Remus Lupin" he said. "Ginny Wea...Summers" Ginny answered, shaking his hand. Closely looking, she noticed a few more scars, but his eyes were sparkling, happy. He was neatly dressed, not as shabby as she saw her as a professor. Meanwhile, he had already started reading quietly. Ginny turned her gaze towards Lily. Though she knew about Severus and Lily's friendship as Harry told her, she felt odd looking at her grumpy, stone faced professor laughing so freely with Lily. He was saying something between laughs and Lily was giggling uncontrolably. On the other hand, James was staring at Lily like .... a 'love-sick puppy. Sirius was saying something to him as he gazed towards Lily continously without blinking. Sirius tried to attract his attention once or twice, but in vain. Suddenly Lily seemed have noticed. She turned directly towards James and glared as if to bury him alive. Ginny almost flinched at the intensity of the glare, though it was not directed to her. But James just gave her a 'I-am-an-innocent-gentleman' look. Lily ignored him and turned to Severus again.
"This happens in almost any class they have together." Remus said, following her gaze. "Almost any class?" Ginny inquired. "Yeah." After a pause, Ginny asked, "What happened to Pettigrew?"
"Worm.... Peter? Oh his is just going through a heartbreak." Remus replied casually. Ginny gave him a 'please-elaborate' look.
"Well, you should better find out by yourself." Remus said with a look rare look of mischief in his eyes. Ginny was just going to argue, when Professor Slughorn entered the class and began abruptly "Good Afternoon, students. Today we are going to brew Forgetfullness Potion. It is a simple, but a very effective potion to restore lost memory. I hope you have chosen your seatmates wisely, because they would be your partner for term upto christmas."
"Bloody hell" Ginny muttered. A typical Weasley action. "What? I am not that bad at potions!" Remus said.
"No no not that" Ginny couldn't tell him the real reason. She was actually afraid that something would slip out of her mouth.... that would give her identity away.
"Actually, I am not so good at Potions. What about you?" Ginny asked. "Well I did get an E in the OWLs at potions. What did you get?" Remus asked. "Oh, only an A." Together they started reading the instructions.
"Lethe River water 2 drops, 2 Valenrian Spring..." Ginny muttered as she added them to the couldron and started heating them. As she was going to crush her mistletoe berries in the mortar, Remus stopped her. "No no, add one more berry, you added only three." Ginny reread the instructions and chimed,"Sorry" before adding a berry to her mortar. They worked in silence with their own potions till Remus broke the silence again.
"Why did you say sorry?" Ginny was busy stirring the couldron. "Huh?" she responded. "Why did you say sorry? You would've only ruined your own potion. Why did you say sorry to me?" Remus explained his question. "Oh, I just.... sorry." Ginny answered. Remus stared at her. "You said sorry again!" "Sorry, I just got confused." Ginny said. "Oh, I see you quite like the word." Remus said. They stared at each other for a moment before they burst out laughing. Slughorn raised an eyebrow at them and they resumed working quietly. Ginny was impressed. She didn't think Remus was ever this cheerful. She was feeling extremely happy, for the first time since her time travel.
"Do you want to join the Slug Club?" Remus asked.
"Huh?"
"The Slug Club. It is special club made by Slughorn for the students he like."
"No no, I don't " Ginny answered. She already had been a part of the Slug Club. She knew how dreadful it was.
Remus looked crestfallen."Oh, I actually get pretty bored there. James and Sirius would've been a part of the Club if they didn't cause so much trouble. You looked like a good company to have at the party." Then he gave a pretty mischievous grin. "I think you will be a part of the Slug club, whether you want it or not."
Ginny didn't have time to enquire the comment as Slughorn completed admiring Severus's potion and approached her.
"Splendid, Ms Summers, 5 points to Gryffindor." Ginny was shocked. She earned points in potions?
"I must say I am pretty dissapointed with your work today, Mr Lupin. Nevermind, it happens." Remus's potion wasn't good? What was happening? He was supposed to be one of the topmost students in class!
"Ms Summers" Ginny snapped back from her thoughts as Slughorn addressed her. "Seeing the splendid work you put up today, on your very class, I assume you have great potential to be great in Potions. I would like you to join the dinner party at my office next weekend. It is only for my special students, the Slug Club." he said with a proud gesture. "I am happy to announce that you are the newest membet of my Club."
Oh no! The Slug Club!
Slughorn went to check the work of other students. Annoyed to be chosen for the Slug Club, Ginny looked down at her potion. How did it become to damn good? Suddenly realisation dawned on her as she looked at her vial and then Remus's. She looked up to glare at Remus, who gave her a very innocent grin.
"What?" he mouthed.
"You switched it! You switched the vials!" Ginny said in a loud whisper.
"Yeah, I wanted you to be in the good books of Slughorn." Remus said and disappeared, as the class was dismissed.
"How was your class?" Lily asked, coming up to her. "I saw that Lupin sat besides you. And congratulations for being chosen into Slug Club on your first day."
"Thanks" replied Ginny. "And the class was hectic." Didn't she have enough problems to deal with before without being added to the Slug Club? Crap! And was Remus that mischievous? Holy shit!
