6:30 (the next day)

Author's ((( (((<,^,>))) ))) Note
I forgot to post yesterday...sorry. Here's an extra long chapter to make up for it...

Surprisingly, James found that he was the first to get up. This was actually pretty funny to him. Although, he knew the reason he was up was that he couldn't stay asleep for over 30 minutes. He walked out of the bedroom and found his father in a deep sleep on the couch, and Bucky sleeping in a recliner close to him, looking impossibly tensed and relaxed.

"Bucky! Bucky! Wake up!" James (R) shouted, shaking him urgently. Instantly, Bucky woke to a start. "AIM...MODOK they took my dad!"
"How did I not*...what hap-", Bucky cleared his head of the less important questions, "Where'd they go?"
"I'm not sure...I was going to follow them, but they said if I moved anymore they'd hurt him and I didn't..." James explained.
"That's fine, but where did they go?" Bucky tried for the answer again.
"They walked right out the door and I saw them heading north," James answered as Bucky motioned him to come outside.
"They have a base in the Bronx. Do you know how to drive?" Bucky continued.
"Yeah but I've never actually been on the road." James answered. Bucky quickly thought about it. "Do you think you can drive your dad's motorcycle?" Bucky asked.
"I guess...but what if-" James started.
"You'll be fine; follow me." Bucky told him as he threw him a helmet.
***********************
Bucky and James arrived at the base with no trouble. Luckily, Steve had showed James how to drive (on his motorcycle) a little while before then.
"MODOK" Bucky said, pointing towards his direction. Him and James were crouched behind a large metal container. James peeked above the box and then crouched back down.
"Nine agents, armed, fat head, and my dad" he told Bucky.
"Is he conscious?" Bucky asked, talking about Cap.
"No...they drugged him at your place and he didn't go down, then they hit him over the head" James answered. Bucky's face tightened to a scowl.
"Alright kid, I'm going to cover you. Go straight for your dad and I'll take care of the agents" he told James, who ran out. They went in guns blazing. Bucky took out a couple agents before they even started shooting. MODOK began to retreat along with the two agents who were dragging Steve along. James ran after them while Bucky turned his back to them and slimmed down the agents in pursuit. James threw his shield at the agent on the right side of his father. He fell and the other agent paused for a second in response. James took this moment to hook him right in the nose** and catch his dad. At the same time, Bucky shot the last agent following them with his newly acquired icer*** (he didn't want to use a firearm with James around) from SHIELD. The only person left was MODOK, until reinforcements came, which was highly likely. Bucky turned around. "Get behind me and get him outta here" he told James as he tossed him an icer.
"But-" James began to protest.
"GO!" Bucky ordered. James sprinted, holding his father in one arm and the icer in the other. He took out countless agents, and felt a sharp pain in his shoulder. 'Keep running' he told himself. Before he had reached the barrier of the base, where he and Bucky had parked he got hit again, this time he got a bullet in his leg. He screamed falling over. But he only showed his pain shortly and got his father to their vehicles, dragging him along, and leaned against a storage building. He sat next to him, shooting agents with the icer when they approached. 'C'mon Buck' he thought, fighting to stay awake. The pain in his shoulder and leg combined slowly started to pull him from consciousness. He saw Bucky's feet running towards him a few minutes later, when everything got hazy and he saw black spots everywhere. Just as Bucky had come over to them, when he knew it was safe, James passed out. Bucky looked down at James and his first response was to put pressure on his wounds, but then how could they get out of the base? He knew he had to get out of here, but at what cost. Just in time, his friends eyes opened.
"Whe- Buck?" Steve said.
"Quick, Steve I need your help. I'm going to hijack this car...James got shot and..."
"What?!" Steve said, now fully awake.
"C'mon, we can talk in the car," Bucky urged as he picked up James. Steve shook his head and ran after Bucky. The ride to the hospital was an interesting one.
"He was the one who woke me up and saw you, what was I supposed to do leave him in my apartment which just to remind you was now most likely planned to be destroyed by AIM?" Bucky questioned rhetorically.
"How did he get there?" Steve asked, tending to James' wounds.
"He took your motorcycle." Bucky answered.
"That was illegal and risky. You know how driving is here. He doesn't even have a license yet!" Steve told Bucky
"He said he could drive it and I was right in front of him. Anyways, this lecture on illegal doings sounds weird coming from the king of falsifying enlistment forms" Bucky answered.
"Okay, I get the fact that he went, but why in the world would you ever let him off by himself?! He got shot Bucky!!! Twice!" Steve shouted.
"I'm truly sorry for that. I shouldn't have let him out by himself. I had a plan, but I forgot he had less experience and that he would only have one free hand," Bucky answered and it was followed by a long, awkward silence. "You're still proud that he got you out of there," Bucky stated.
"Yup" Steve said, and their argument ended.
*********************
James woke up laying in a hospital bed. He started to sit up, but after raising only an inch or so he was forced down by a shooting pain down his arm.
"Ah!" he exclaimed.
"Take it easy," Bucky responded, putting his hand on James' shoulder.
"How are you?" he asked.
"Where's dad?" James questioned, ignoring him. Buck pointed out the door.
"Bathroom. Perfect timing right?" Bucky commented. James smiled.
"As long as he isn't with AIM, I'm good" he said.
"James, you're up!" Steve observed, as he walked into the room moments later.
"Well...not up, but awake." James joked.
"How are you feeling?" Steve asked.
"Not so great", James answered.
"Your leg and arm should heal in a few days if you rest them...and you're like me" Steve explained.
"Dad, I'm tired. I didn't sleep well last night. Do you mind if I-"
"Go ahead," Steve told him, "you definitely earned it." As soon as he heard that, James readjusted his body (as much as he could with his injuries) and closed his eyes. Steve and Bucky left and sat outside the room. They were respectfully quiet for a while, but when it seemed that James was probably already asleep, Steve told Bucky, "He's going to want to leave as soon as possible. I'm going to see when he can."
"Alright" Bucky responded.
*************************
"It took a while to negotiate, but he can leave as soon as he wakes up." Steve said as he returned. "Speaking of going home...I got your place destroyed"
"That wasn't-" Bucky started.
"Yes it was. The Next Avengers were off the grid until I showed up. They captured me...that means that they were wait-"
"That doesn't matter. It wasn't your fault," Buck persisted.
"Anyways," Steve continued, "if you want you're welcome to come back with James and I" Steve said.
"Thanks...how many teens again?" Bucky asked. Steve laughed. "I'm just joking" he explained. "Tony actually said I could stay?"
"...more or less" Steve responded. Bucky shook his head.
*************************
James woke up, and just as Steve had expected asked when he could leave.
"Want to go now?" Steve asked.
"Really?" his son questioned.
"I talked to the doctor..." Steve answered. James abruptly pulled out his IV and started to get up, forgetting his injuries.
"Ow!!!" he exclaimed.
"Be careful. You can't get up on your own." Steve warned. James sighed, feeling helpless.
"They brought you in a crutch" Steve reached it to him, "Thanks for the save by the way". James got up again, this time with his crutch.
He winced,"I don't think this crutch is helping my shoulder much" said, his face showing his pain.
Steve shook his head thinking 'why didn't I think of that', though it was mostly the ignorance of the doctor that caused his pain. "Sorry kid. Do you want me to go get a wheel chair?"
"I don't want a wheel chair." James responded and outstretched his hand to his father "Can you just help me up?" Steve grabbed his wrist and pulled him to his feet (more like foot). James started hop/limping and Cap raised an eyebrow at him.
"What?" He resumed hop/limping. Steve walked next to him in case his odd method of locomotion failed.

*this is supposed to be "How did I not wake up?" And he did...AIM had sedative.

**technically, hazmat suit but right around his nose

***they are on Agents of Shield...the "bullets" knock out their victims. It says newly acquired, but it's probably about 20 yrs old.
