Parting Time

The next day was far different. It was all sad and painful.

Miyoung will be forced to go to the fucking light and die. It's unfair to her. All of us have the right to live. I must be crazy to think like this but for me, Miyoung is real and I love her.

"Promise me Taeyeon that you will still stay by my side even if I don't remember you because I know my heart will do," Miyoung sadly said as she held my cheeks.

"I promise Miyoung." I will always look after you even if you don't remember me.

"Finally, you will meet Tiffany. If I'm just part of her, I'm sure she's an amazing person because look at me... I'm awesome," she joked as she winked at me.

I nodded "I know... you're amazing Miyoung." I tried to smile but it couldn't cover the pain. It was too much. It was utterly overwhelming.

"All my best days here are those spent with you Taeyeon. Thank you for coming into my life, I will cherish it forever," she sweetly said as she stroked my cheeks.

I started to sob like a child knowing that she would be gone. I couldn't think of anything. I couldn't imagine my life without her.

I love her so much and it's breaking me to know that it's the end for us. I want to be selfish, I want her to stay and I want her to still remember me.

But I couldn't do that. I couldn't just wish her to stay because it wasn't right. It would be unfair for them, for her family and also for her.

It's Tiffany's life and this just happened because of her traumatic experience. She deserves to have a normal life.

"I love you Taeyeon, take care of yourself," she leaned forward to me and captured my lips for the last time. It felt cold, I could taste the bitterness of pain.

Miyoung pulled away "I need to do this now before I change my mind."

I held her hand "I love you," my voice was broken as my eyes swam with tears. I pulled her and hugged her tightly "I will miss you so much."

Miyoung sniffled as she hugged me back "I will miss you too Taeyeon."

We cried and cried... and cried until we both calmed down.

"I need to do this Taeyeon," she firmly said as she pulled back to face me. "I need to go."

Those four words are the most painful thing I've ever heard.

I barely nodded "Miyoung..." My voice quivered.

"Good bye... my love," she walked away from me.

"I'm ready Doc," she said to Dr. Choi. The latter wiped her tears and nodded.

Miyoung laid herself on bed and she closed her eyes.

Dr. Choi started the operation as she rang the bell once.

"Miyoung? Where are you?" Dr. Choi asked.

"I'm in a white room and I'm in front of a door," Miyoung answered.

"Okay... open the door and follow the light," Dr. Choi instructed.

Miyoung just nodded and after a few moments she said "I did but there's still another door in front of me."

"One. That's one year. You're getting older Miyoung."

It was the same process like what happened to Fany. Everytime Miyoung entered a door was equivalent to a year older.

Dr. Choi told me that Tiffany made Fany and Miyoung using her mind. So if we made the alters think that they are getting older, they would die immediately when they reach the maximum capacity of their age. If that happened, there wouldn't be no blocks for Tiffany and she would probably come out.

"69... 69 years added to your age Miyoung..." Dr. Choi announced as she wiped her sweat on the side of her face.

"I'm 99 years old..." Miyoung slowly said. "Too old and weak..." She whispered.

Dr. Choi took a deep breath "Miyoung open the door and follow the light."

Miyoung gasped "There's no more door."

Dr. Choi frowned "No door? What? What do you see then?"

"I see a wonderful place..." She weakly said.

"That's impossible..." Dr. Choi was confused as she rang the bell once again. "Miyoung... what do you see?"

"I see... my light..."

"Really? Follow the light Miyoung..."

Miyoung smiled "Of course... I will follow her... her beautiful smile... I will never forget it... Taeyeon..." Then she stopped breathing.

"Miyoung... Miyoung?" Dr. Choi called but no response.

This is so familiar... it also happened to Fany.

Miyoung is gone.

At that moment, I broke down. I couldn't imagine continuing my life without her.

It felt like the world has come to an end knowing that she wasn't coming back. This grieving was disconcerting and disjointed misery.

I will miss her... them so much.

I felt like I also died. I was lost without their presence. My life felt empty and cold.

I squeezed my eyes shut and tried hard to contain myself.

Dr. Choi rang the bell twice and the operation was done. I opened my eyes and see Tiffany was breathing normally again but she was asleep.

"I think... she's back," Dr. Choi announced and smiled a bit.

"Tiffany is back."

I should be happy because the operation is successful but those three words left my feeling really down in the mouth.
